YAY!!! BC is finally, finally getting rid of that. This Sunday will be the last time.

Bout freaking time too. BCers voted on this a long time ago to get rid of it. We were waiting on you but this Premier finally got fed up and made an annoucement yesterday.

There are a few concerns but I think they will fade after a bit. This will bring us in line with Yukon, I think the NWT and Alberta of course.

So, go Mr. Eby!

Yeah... It looked like it was going to happen here, but it looks like they changed their mind because of the kids. We'd all love to see daylight last longer during the winter, but they've got a point. Though the sun has partially come up by the time the kids are getting picked up by the bus in the morning, it's still fairly dark. If we moved that time up to keep the sun up longer, those kids would be getting picked up by the bus in the dark for at least a month or two.

I never considered that myself in these arguments because I never took a bus to school. Usually I lived pretty close to school, except for when we moved and I had to walk about 1.5 miles to and from high school until I got a car. I had the option to take a bus for free because of how far I was away from the high school, but I chose to walk because of how much earlier I'd have to wake up every morning to catch the bus. It was way faster for me to walk 1.5 miles to school than it would have been to get picked up and have to wait for all the other kids to get picked up on the way. So even during the winter it was already light out by the time I started walking.

Glad you finally got it. But I don't think it's ever going to happen here. At least it probably never will until we get back to a high trust society like we had when I was a kid.

Be Nice. Don't be a dick.

It seems you have it backwards. You mean you will be on permanent Daylight Savings Time, and you will never return to Standard Time for your Time Zone, or your 15 Degree geographical section of Longitudes.

Why not just shift your time to Greenwich Mean Time? Then nobody needs to convert time, it will all be the same.

As it is, school kids are getting picked up on the school bus 90 minutes before dawn.
In winter, the absolute coldest time of the night is 2-3 hours before dawn. Without Standard Time, by staying in DST, kids will be standing outside for the bus at the absolute coldest time of the night in winter, in the freezing wind and rain.
Not to mention that for people going to work, their vehicles will need to start up also in the coldest time of the night. Mechanics will love having more cars to fix.

Yeah, there are concerns about the kids maybe going to school in partial darkness but they already do that in the Northeastern corner of the province. So, I think it should work out.

I walked to elementary school and high school. Could have taken the bus in high school but quicker to walk.

Okay, I got it messed up. I am still glad we aren't doing the time change anymore. It makes things easier.
