You gotta figure that all the Justices that voted for this BS expanded eminent domain crap have a few bucks in property scattered here and there.

David H. Souter got his, now how about the rest??

John Paul Stevens
Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Stephen G. Breyer
Anthony Kennedy

BTW...aren't these the Left wing Justices????

I'm reminded of Dante's Divine Comedy; Dante's Hell is a finely-tuned machine dedicated to the production of poetic justice.

I'm hoping this goes somewhere other than just a silly-season distraction; perhaps this could be the beginning of a new movement, one that uses the very weapons of the freedom thieves against them. Feed the silly geese some gander sauce.

Is it any wonder? The Left has been baying about the virtues of socialism for years. This is just another example of the tendency toward government control of the economy. This smacks of communism. One would think that he Left would be just delirious with joy over this ruling.

Finn, jeez, what the heck have you been smoking? This "left" you keep talking about, what motivates them to want their lives controlled by the government? Who has ever wanted that, in the history of the human race, who? Have you read any of them primary texts about communism and such? All you're doing is antagonizing people who might identify with that word, "left," and making yourself look like a jerk. Finn, you didn't used to talk like Rush Limbaugh, what happened?

And if you're gonna compare it to something, call it Stalinism.

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Don’t ask me. Ask them. They are one’s who voted for this ruling.

Stalinism!? Now who’s smoking what? The quasi-socialist Left in this country sometime seems to be full of socialist crackpots, but I wouldn’t call them Stalinist just yet.

(Although the way I feel after reading this ruling, you might be able to talk me into it.)

Huh? In what way was a popular vote involved in this ruling? The Supreme Court is appointed for life, and David Souter in particular was appointed by George Bush the Elder, hardly a liberal icon.

Sigh. I guess it's easier to blame everything on the liberal boogeyman than to have to actually think about issues.

And you better not call me a liberal; I'm a Heinleinian minarchist, and where I come from, them's fightin' words!

I'm a liberal in that I believe that it's important to care for PEOPLE.

I'm a capitalist in that I think making an HONEST profit is a good and fine thing.

I would request that you don't assume to tell me my philosophy and beliefs on anything. Nor do I appreciate you putting words into my mouth.

I'm horrified at this ruling. My husband and I are sure to lose our property within 5 years.

Our 125 year old brick Victorian is in the oldest neighborhood in St. Paul along the first bluff above the Mississippi River. Its taxable value is only $90K - the real estate agents keep dropping by to tell us we should be able to get at least $250K for it. But, we DON'T want to sell. We love our gracious old lady.

All along the river there are gajillion dollar condos going in. The developers are getting antsy because they're running out of places to build these overpriced, anonymous breadboxes. They've resorted to building their own levies and pouring 30 feet of materials to build up their developments to be above flood stage.

Currently, we on the first bluff have a view of the huge coal burning power plant with its gigantic mountains of coal. Peeking out from behind this Mad Max industrial scene is the blue Mississippi - this 'lack of view' is the one thing that has kept the developers at bay.

In 2008, this eyesore is supposed to be replaced with a smaller gas fired plant. The stratosphere high smoke stack will come down. The coal yards will be cleaned up and restored to park land.

If anyone thinks that some weasle isn't going to convince the city of St. Paul that they can buy up our 'depressed' river front street and replace it with hundreds of millions of dollars of condos, then they aren't looking at the view that WILL replace the powerplant.

We're screwed and we were screwed by the people we last expected to make such a 'wrong-headed big business' decision.

Don't be to touchy here. When references to the Left or Right are made around here, the contempt and scorn only go to the far far Left and the far far Right.

Them's folk who tend to live there lives somewhere around the middle are not included in the aforementiond contempt and scorn.

Even a Right leaning moderate like myself cares for people, so thats not exclusive to the liberals only club.

It continues to amaze me how stupid the extreme right and left can be. Thank God for the moderates in the world.

It's kind of funny how when the "Left" does this
sort of thing, it's seen as a Socialist agenda. But if the "Right" was to do it, it would be Capitalistic land grabbing to screw the little people.

The way I see it is it's just plain unfair, underhanded, and unamerican. And I still can't believe the Supreme Court of the United States voted 5-4 to enact this travesty of Justice....

I was stunned speechless by the ruling. It still angers me no end. It is my hope that this travesty will be corrected at some time in the future (as other travesties enacted by our more foolish employees in the past have eventually been corrected).

I still have faith that the system tends to correct these things over time. We just need to keep the engine turning...

Great post Barnstormer!! My feelings exactly. I abhor labels now. The last 2 years of politics have roiled my stomach something fierce. What basically has happened is that the Repubs and Dems have alienated the middle by catering to the fringe. Fabricating a divide that in my opinion REALLY doesn't exist.

What I DO see is another example of how our country REALLY isn't For the People and BY the People. Something like this should have been determined by a referendum vote rather then a court ruling.

Business should NEVER come before personal property rights. I'm sure there is much more to this then We the People are being told.

It's just physics, really. Send two objects out in exactly opposite directions, and they will eventually meet in the same place.

Got to go pray to my dollar now Chrisisall
