That would be because we're at least the second most overpopulated country in the world

(not sure about that, but I remember a report saying the Tokyo had the same number of people per square mile as London).

Cornwall, like much of Wales is quite cheap though (no jobs

). I remember my father was looking to buy a place and he asked what he could get for our semi in Surrey, the responce was:

Since the term Corporatism was coined by Mussolini, who called it the 'merger of corporation and state' and thought it was a good idea, or the perfect idea; And since Mussolini was a fascist, and evil, and the enemy of the west, of which I think we are all a part: I don't think anti-Corporatism really constitutes a political point of view.

That's like saying if someone said "Nazi's are bad" turning around and saying "oh there you go with your political zionist rant again."

I don't think that the idea "Corporatism is bad" is really one that is even a matter of debate at this point. I think "Bush is Corporatism" is something you could try to debate, but you would be starting from a losing position. If you wanted to argue "the good in Bush outweighs the bad" I don't envy you, but this is probably where you would have to begin.

Logically, the counterstatement to Chrisisall's statement becomes this one: "Corporatism is good" which doesn't just imply, but actually inherently states "Mussolini was right." Since this is an absolutely untennable political position, I think it makes Chris' statement not particularly political. Certainly not a partisan point.

Anyway,

I think that the way in which corporatism fails is that it makes the govt. into a giant leech that drain life from a society and gives nothing in return, eventually the people hate govt., and eschew it. I think the natural end to corporatism in America, if we don't manage to replace it with something better, is that United States of America will die. Within 10 or 15 years. All of the business and culture of America will continue to exist, but everyone will secede from the leech state. I don't think that at the present time, a USA which is seemingly completely incapable of conquering Iraq could even conceivably take New York, let alone more than one state at a time, let alone half of them or more.

Iraq has a population of 23 million prior to the US invasion, 12 million of whom are adults, terrain is desert. 1 in 3 are armed, relatively few have advanced degrees.

Population of Iraq: 23 Million
Population of New York: 17 Million

Adult Population of Iraq: 12 Million
Adult Population of New York: 13 Million

Square Mileage of Iraq: 171600
Square Mileage of New York: 54471.144

But since much of Iraq is uninhabited, uninhabitable desert, it's really under twice the size.

Number of international airports in Iraq: 2
Number of international airports in New York: 13

GDP of Iraq: $36B
GDP of New York: $988B

Terrain of Iraq: Flat, open, steppeland.
Terrain of New York: Low lying mountains and forest.

Gun ownership in New York is probably even higher of that in Iraq, most of the citizens are educated, and whereas Iraq had one luke-warm potential ally on its borders and many hostile states, a secessionist New York would have two strong allies and no enemies: Canada would undoubtedly support the idea, as would New England, which has always been more averse to federal control than New York has.

While this idea may seem extreme, and is, the New Yorker printed something about NYC session fairly recently, and they weren't really joking. I think right now, a federal union like the USA has to make a very strong case to a state like NY which pays roughly half of its own revenue to support the union, and gets virtually nothing out of the relationship. And please don't say "oh it gets defense." New York has been dying for years to take over its own defense as it is thoroughly convinced that its own resources are superior to that of the federal govt.

I'm sure if anyone here is from California that they have worked out a similar argument.

Anyway, if it's not too political, in my brighest moments I hope that we as a species will organize a way to force ourselves to respect the Earth.

I failed to see the distinction, so I dragged out the old internet dictionary (I can't believe I'm doing this) and found the following:

DREAM- Series of mental images and emotions occurring during sleep; a cherished desire; imaginative thoughts indulged in while awake; a state of mind characterized by abstraction and release from reality; indulge in a fantasy; someone or something wonderful

So I don't think this IS a distinction, I think this is dyspeptic interference from someone who apparently has no heartfelt dreams to call his own.
