Keep the Shiny side up

Now this is the kind of action I can get behind. No one gets hurt and the pastry business gets a boost from the devout. Non-violent protest and yummy goodness all in one package.

Iranians rename Danish pastries

Iranians wishing to buy Danish pastries will now have to ask for "Roses of the Prophet Muhammad".
Bakeries across the capital, Tehran, are covering up signs advertising the pastries and replacing them with ones bearing the dessert's new name.

The confectioners' union ordered the name change in retaliation for the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in a Danish newspaper.

America loves a winner!

Guess that's better than naming them 'Mohammad Muffins'

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

Lol,

I saw that. Well, for once I guess they're connecting the perceived offense to its source. I did find it curious that the overall response to a danish cartoon series was to:

1. Burn American Flags.
2. Decide to attack jews.

I don't get it. 'Roses of the Prophet Muhammad' isn't blasphemous? So the pastries invented by the unholy, evil, heathen infidels, the ones who brought about all this chaos and destruction because of their wretched cartoons and freedom of expression, are likened to the roses of the holy Prophet? Aren't roses of the holy Prophet themselves holy? So... uhm... huh?

And if the pastries are roses, doesn't that mean the Danish are the Prophet Muhammad?

It's like Osama bringing out a deodorant and Americans calling it 'Jesus Smell' to make it okay to wear it.

Thanks, Geezer, I knew I was forgetting something.

Here's what I don't get. Why doesn't the news report the role of the Al Qaeda Communication network in all of these muslim shenanigans. I read about this in smaller papers, but the MSM ignores it, just as it ignores the activities of Al Qaeda in Darfur.

What!? And take away valuable airtime from the Cheney shooting accident!? Al Qaeda'a activities don't concern the safety of the American people, the VP's firearm mishaps do.

PS: I don't think my dry sense of humour comes across as humour on these message boards, so I'll resort to using >shudder< emoticons to communicate humour (<-and other emotions). Oh, how Moliere is turning in his grave...

FINN MAC CUMHAL

This morning I stopped at Starbucks to order a Grande Cappuccino and a blueberry Roses of the Prophet Mohammad with those little sprinkle things. Also there may have been nuts.

I think we have an opportunity to help enact real change in the Muslim world. If we all band together and act like renaming the Danish is the worst, most egregious offense they could have ever inflicted on the Western world, I think we might start a new trend in terrorism that we can all live with. This way when some Islamic fruitcake gets a hankering to burn down an embassy or blow up a school bus, he’ll stop and think about all the fuse that Danish renaming thing caused and instead he will rename a fruit or something. To which we will have to respond in kind with some collective haul of bogus agony and anguish like something alien just jumped out of our chests. It might get old after a while with the shear number of fruitcakes, but is that really any more difficult then invading a country?

Oh, he's so full of manure, that man! We could lay him in the dirt and grow another one just like him.

Finn,

As usual, you're thinking on your feet. We can't let them kill free speech, but maybe we can work something out where papers can print retractions, apologies to allah, disclaimers, or something that allows them to say stuff with free speech, but not offend to the point where it sparks a war.

But I have Fatwa-envy, so I need to say this:

Jihad Jellydonut.

In a Starbucks? I'm sure there were lots of nuts. Look for the guy ordering a "triple mocha decaf latte anything with foam and sprinkles." That's the type.

...oh you meant actual nuts. My bad.

Personally, I think your all a Roses of the Prophet Muhammad short of a bakery...

Works in any Circumstance, CitizenIsA Pastry.

SIGNYM

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Hmmm.... maybe we should rename all of our pastries in honor of Allah? Mohammed-cakes (cupcakes), Fringes of Allah's robe (bear claws), Leaves of Koran (Napoleans), 100-Virgins (donuts). Or do you think the irony would be lost?

I'm beginning to understand the reaction to the "Koran flushed down the toilet" story. At first I thought it was an unexpected abberation- you know, a stand-in for invasion, torture prisons, needless civilian death, occupation. Now I see it's just sheer nutty fundamentalism.

I now have a fatwa on me.

Signy are you nuts?!!?!?!??

You're robbing us of all of our Jihad subsitutes! It's important we compile the list, and then feed them one pastry rename for every act of insolent western pig imperialism.

Yep, exactly what it is. The argument that they did this because of our invasion of Iraq would hold a lot more water if they weren't already doing it.

"Roses of the prophet Muhammed," what a silly name for a pastry.

Couldn't they be a bit more imaginative in the naming of our dear and beloved pastries?

I would find this Muhammed cartoon incident remarkably hilarious, barring, of course, the chaos and violence that ensued.

Except, by that rationelle, calling French Fries "Freedom Fries" would imply that France is the foremost bastion of freedom.
