Yes!! There was definitely something over there, 'cause I stepped in it.

First, I get promised a cookie that never materializes (in that other thread), now I come into a nonexistant thread and step in something.

Well, what's the essential nature of a thread? What, exactly constitutes a thread?

On the dualist view, you need two things to have a thread: digital space and coherent conversation. Without both, it's not a thread.

But on the reductivist view, all you really need is digital space. Since the conversation can't happen without the digital space, and since the conversation moves within the digital space, the conversation isn't really an independently existing thing at all, but merely an expression of the state of the digital space.

So really, the question to ask is, are you a dualist or a reductivist?

But, don't get your hopes up. I was promised a cookie, but no cookie (or any other baked product) was ever forthcoming. I'm beginning to think it was just some sort of scam to get people to read the thread... much like this one (where unsuspecting folks, like myself, get lured into a nonexistant room, only to step into things best avoided).

Hang on, why does DreamTrove get to tell us whether or not this is a thread? What if this thread actually exists, but we all assume it doesn't just because DreamTrove said so?

On the other hand, what if this thread doesn't exist and only he knows that it doesn't exist?

Or what if it once existed, but he determined it should no longer exist, and so it stopped existing. Does he have some sort of divine powers that can determine the existence of threads!? DreamTrove, are you some sort of God?

Actually as the creator... of this thread, I caused its uncertain existance.

What I find most curious is that it wouldn't have been a thread had you people not questioned it's notathreadiness.

Thus by questioning its own statement of non-existance, you have cause it to exist.

Does the logic of thread-philosophy also apply to things like God? If a bunch of people met up and discussed the non-existence of God, does that mean God exists as a result of that?

Since if people discuss the non-existence of God, they discuss the non-existence of the abstract idea that society associates with the concept of God. Yet by discussing the abstract idea, the idea exists by default.

Hence God exists.

But don't worry, I'm still an atheist.

I don't think so, and not just because I'm a little irked at God's attempt to forge his way into my thread. But it can be logiclaly shown that the thread exists because of the doubting of it, like the invisible girl, Marcie Ross. But if believing in god makes god exist, which could be logically shown, then does disbelieving make god not exist?

Who brought the creator into this conversation? HA! Subterfuge and obfuscation, performing a slight with the left hand while naming himself creator with the right hand. This is a very slippery slope, DT, next you'll be wanting Sundays off, possibly Saturdays as well. Everyone else just wants a cookie, but not you, I'll bet nothing less than world peace and old growth forest will do for this deity.

Ok, it's your black hole, but first could you maybe paint yourself blue?

I believe everyone has a cookie. This site never asks me for a username and password, and yet it knows who I am, so there must be a cookie. I have a cookie. You all have a cookie too. I made Orange chocolate chips cookies today and sent them to my brother for his birthday. I baked them in weevil-free flour. His daughters sent girl scout cookies to the troops in Iraq.

What truth?

The truth that there is no thread, and then you will realise that it is not the random man who is naked, it is only yourself.

I thought of something really clever to contribute about 1/3 of the way down this unthread, but by the time I'd read about the cookies and everything, it was no longer so clever.

So I shall simply refrain from commenting.

I actually did write this, but I didn't send it. I thought it wasn't in the spirit of the thread, and too much of my usual sardonic retort. In this life, you take what comes. What bothers me more is that more people post on the abortion more quickly than anything else that ever came to the board, the one topic which serves as nothing but a political divider. And of course degenerated rapidly into 'fascist pig' 'oh yeah? babykiller.' I see little images of sheep goosestepping off cliffs when this sort of thing happens.

Citizen,

Lol. Actually, it's you.

Yet somehow people can't even allow the other perspective to exist on this particular issue. Unfortunate for all of us that we can't rise above this thinking, because the powers that suck will continue to use it as a distraction until we wake up, and we won't be able to get out of the mire of the powers that suck until we can allow difference of perspective (not just this issue, but generally) and find new ways to work together.

This is a fine thread. Chaos is very useful for creating new ways of thinking.
