America loves a winner!

and creating even more interest in this movie ( if possible ). It's almost comical, but they've invested so much into discrediting this movie as to now personally attack Dan Brown. The Christian crowd is tweaked even further as Brown has the audacity to continue to NOT call this a work of fiction, even though he does make ample disclaimers in the front of the book. Never the less, the true believers are gearing up for a post Da Vinci Code sharing of truth.

On the bright side, no one from the Christian community is calling for Dan Brown's head, as was done by Muslims for Salman Rushdie's Satanic Verses

Than again, isn't there enough in the world to concern ourselves with before anyone frets over a movie or a book and whether it corrupts some people's faith? I mean, if that's all it takes to make you question your faith, how strong is it in the 1st place ?

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

Edited to add: Actually, after I wrote this, I realized that I had misread the OP. However, my post still stands. That just makes two topics for this thread instead of one

Well, here's what makes the whole thing laughable to start with. Brown's work is clearly labeled (contrary to what he may claim personally to sell books) as a work of fiction. The people suing him claim that their work is an actual historical piece. Therefore, they don't even really have the slightest basis for a lawsuit, as long as he gave them credit or thanks for their influence, which he clearly did. You can take any history or historical document and write any fiction you want based off it, no matter how recently it was written (otherwise, any of these TV shows that are "ripped from the headlines" would be sued every 5 seconds, which they aren't).

All these folks want is a chance at Brown's cash, and some free publicity for their own book. They aren't going to get either, IMO (because the 5 extra people buying their work isn't going to make enough money back to cover their legal expenses), and (here I agree 100% with AURaptor) are just handing the studio more cash. Dumbasses.

There's a movie being made about that peice of ? Well, I gues that proves that I've been out of the world for a spell.

But, I agree and disagree with discrediting a movie if it is implied to be factual, but clearly isn't.

I agree because people are so stupid now adays as to actually believe that something is true, even though it clearly isn't. Clearly that is, to people who actually use that grey matter between there ears.

I disagree because as soon as you make more of a fuss than necessary, then all you're doing past that point, is giving free publisity.

At any rate, I just woke up and that's all the brain power I got in me for now. Perhaps more after I have my coffee

On behalf of Christians who CAN discern works of fiction and/or speculative histories from actual historical fact, I apologize.

I haven't read Brown's book, although it does intrigue me and it'll probably wind up on the ol' reading list one of these days, I've never seen any reason to boycott anything. Personally, I can't imagine this book could possibly be that incindiery. Heck, based on what I've heard about the book's contents, Kevin Smith's Dogma was FAR more blasphemous.

And I loved Dogma.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Fox!

Have you read this book? Brown is borderline illiterate. The puzzles are at about a third grade level if that. I'm stunned and amazed that an editor let some of this stuff through. Personal attacks are bound to come.

I think it's curious that you have carried on as an ideological supporter of the Bush agenda, and yet in a literary comment you actually reveal yourself as a member of the christian right. There is no other reason to like Dan Brown, who I find intolleratebly dull witted, and not at all political. Unless I missed something.

[quopte]On the bright side, no one from the Christian community is calling for Dan Brown's head

Why would they? He's 100% their guy.

I agree that literary criticism isn't a good use of time, and bad fiction like a million pieces whould just be published and read, but I think knocking the man and his works is something people do for fun because it's such an easy target.

Wasn't saying anything about the Christians in particular. I was making a general statement about people in society.

But, it is nice to know that there are people in society that can do this as we are becoming a rare breed indeed. We still exist!

It seems obvious that the book's popularity has not only to do with its religious premise, but the fact that it lets dumb people feel smart by being able to solve the "puzzles" a page or so before the book does. Same reason CSI is popular.

Yes, I did read and enjoy the book. I'm glad the puzzles didn't offer you any challenge, but I found the book a fun read, none the less.

How have I aligned myself w/ the Christian Right via my literary comment on this book? And how in anyway is Dan Brown the C.R.'s guy ?? Dan Brown is definatly NOT their guy,and I don't know how you misread my post. You seem to have missed a great deal. What is curious is how you intejrect the issue of politics w/ Dan Brown as being " not at all political ". And so what if he is ? Per this issue, politics seems to be your cross to bear, not mine, not Dan Brown's.

Auraptor,

I'm just sounding off. I'm actually really really sick with a fever. That's probably why I tore into you. I think the DVC is a xtian fantasy which is paving the way for some new divine line claiming to be descended from jesus, plus I found it neither challenging nor well written. I can see its appeal as an adventure/mystery and it might make a descent film. But mostly I'm just lying here feeling feverish and awful. Maybe that's why I started a thread praising Bush. Fever going to my head

Nah, you're missing the point, this has nothing to do with me.

Okay, point for the defense:

1. DB is a pointman for the Xtian right, this is pretty much as established fact. This is why they love him. It's the subtle subversive messages in his books. This is why he gets published, its his connections through some Xtian underworld, I don't understand it fully, but I know that this is how he is connected. It's not like he sent a script in and some editor said "AH, yes, this is what I've been waiting for" no no no.

2. I've been trying to figure out why you support Bush. You seem conservative, he doesn't. I'm baffled.

3. The Xtians support Bush because he protects them from the liberal onslaught of yuck, that I understand.

4. You>The DaVinci Code>Xtian Right>Bush, and finally I had a popcorn trail which led me from you to Bush.

So, simple analysis, "Ah, Auraptor, member of the Xtian right, likes both Dan Brown and Bush." I could be wrong, but you can't deny it was a logical deduct given the facts at hand.

Ps. My mention of politics was just a reflection of I didn't make the connection of you to bush politically, and DB offered no politics, so there would be no connecting link there.

AUSSAY

As Wash would say, "Im confused ..."

How is Dan Brown a 'pointman' for Christianity?

The book, if anything, states Paganism as a true relgion.

Doesnt it? It states the Christian faith is simply a combination of various ancient relgions, such as the Egyptian Cult of Ra, and suggests that Christ had no supernatural powers or was ressurected or was the son of a supreme being.

It also state the Christian relgion as a deceptive and secertive cult that uses its power for its own uses rather than any divine purpose.

I just dont see any sort of 'pointman -ish' things in his book

It's not like he sent a script in and some editor said "AH, yes, this is what I've been waiting for" no no no. - I'm not sure which tin foil hat you're wearing, but the Xtian Right loathes D.Brown. I don't know who they detest more, him or J.K. Rowling, but in no way what so ever do they appreciate his work. Yeah, he writes about Christianity, ( Catholicism to be more accurate ) but there's no subversive messages here.

2. I've been trying to figure out why you support Bush. You seem conservative, he doesn't. I'm baffled. - This post was started about Dan Brown, his book and the upcoming movie. Not everything has to be related to politics, or Bush. Try thinking beyond such things, once in a while

3. The Xtians support Bush because he protects them from the liberal onslaught of yuck, that I understand. - To some degree, I'm sure that's true. At least from their perspective. Again, what's w/ the politics?

4. You>The DaVinci Code>Xtian Right>Bush, and finally I had a popcorn trail which led me from you to Bush. I'm not a Christian, so the trail ends at the Da Vinci Code. I just liked the book. I also like Ron Howard and Tom Hanks, have ever somce SPLASH, even if our politics don't always coincide.

So, simple analysis, "Ah, Auraptor, member of the Xtian right, likes both Dan Brown and Bush." I could be wrong, but you can't deny it was a logical deduct given the facts at hand. - Either you're over medicating or under medicating, but let me s'plain something to you..I'm not a member of the Xtian right. Conservative? Yep. Christian? Nope. Your logic is faulty. Sorry.

Ps. My mention of politics was just a reflection of I didn't make the connection of you to bush politically, and DB offered no politics, so there would be no connecting link there. huh ?
