I've often heard people talk about Air America as being the mirror of F*x, but there's one big difference- Air America is not news, and it doesn't claim to be. It's unabashedly opinion and entertainment. It doesn't claim to be 'fair and balanced.' The only news is 30 second rebroadcasts from CNN radio news. F*x is much worse because it does claim to be serious news, with pigs like O'Lielly assuming some claim to journalistic credentials.

You're right of course, except that I stream Air America, and they do do their own news in those 30 second slots --- its in the stories they cover that I'm talking about...those stories are real, they are important, but if you watch CNN they don't exist. I'm not talking about the slant as much as I am the coverage that certain stories are getting or not getting.

Those stories could be covered without specific bias by the mainstream media, but the choice to cover one thing or another is sometimes an ideological or biased one in itself, and by not covering these stories, which are important to so many of us, the major news stations are letting their ideology show through.

Hehe,

yeah, except that I would take the perspective that there is nothing very left-wing about China's Communism, or its censorship/stranglehold on media...that's more in line with our corprofacsist present day america than it is with the liberal ideas espoused by such stations as Air-America.

More important than social conciousness, I think the defining factor of liberalism is the disdain for censorship, and the closing off of ideas.

Central in that is the belief that all social remedies can come out of a real, honest discussion where all ideas have platforms from which to be heard. I'd be naive to say that liberals have never been known to shout others down, or boo over speeches, etc...but what we strive for and what we acheive are not always the same things.

I agree, though Communism is the stain of the left, in so much as it is on the tree of Socialism, a leftist ideal. Fascism is the stain of the Right, and that goes against the Libertarian ideals of limited government. Whether it's on the left or the right the extremes are much the same.

Although the right desperatly screams for all iron fist governments to be classified as leftist, I guess that must be the Conservative ideal of personal responcibillity. Personal responcibillity for all, except me...

More insane ramblings by the people who brought you beeeer milkshakes!
And as you know, these are open forums, you're able to come and listen to what I have to say.
