I mean, would they be cheering like "Finally, the infidels GET IT!!!!"
-OR-
"They have no clue what REAL OPPRESSION AND TERROR ARE, the dogs!!!"

And more importantly, do they give it a 'thumbs up'?

The terrorists are watching that movie to see how to blow up things and getting ideas. Hollywood and Englands moviemakers work under the Devils' influence and help the cause of terrorism. I rented it and demanded my money back for that piece of unAmerican junk. America will never fall that low with people like Predident Bush leading the way. Like you all want it too.

FREMDFIRMA

Taken simply as entertainment, the flick is downright good, the rich symbolism and astounding direction, lighting and motion is a complete league higher than most anything that has come out of hollywood in and years, and for once some decent acting and a story instead of mindless drivel and special effects.

That being said....

Politically the flick is something downright frightening, especially to americans who can see their current government in the eyes and actions of the norsefire regime, and yes, I supposed one could say it might give folk ideas, but considering my own leanings, I have to ask if those are necessarily BAD ideas ?

"Clearly some are more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable.."

The movie paints V as a much more sane, much nicer guy than the original story, and uses an idealistic ending that we know quite well would turn out differently because you always, always have fanatic civvie/dissent haters in a military group like that, and it only takes ONE shot fired in anger.... and angry mobs tend to be both unstoppable and unforgiving, just ask Mussolini.

Of course, I am biased because the flick is based on a viewpoint from mine own political perspective - and most reviews seem to reflect the politics of the viewer (especially some of the 'bad' reviews from current administration supporters who admit they've never even seen it!) rather than any appreciation for the film itself.

If you discard politics and view it as entertainment, it's STILL a damned good flick even if it does dredge up a disturbing thought or two, and still quite entertaining and moving.

Pass the popcorn please,

-Frem

PS. - I found the concept of big bad V cooking breakfast in a prissy floral apron rather screechingly hilarious myself... always reduces me to shrieking giggles, really it does...

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Watching V for Vendetta? Serves 'em right, I say!

I thought V was so incredibly misguided (revolution by superhero) and unrealistic that anyone who watches it for ideas deserves whetever they get.

i dunno..i think you are missing the premise; it is within the capablility of any establishment to condition its citizens through controlled media outlets, with propoganda and disinformation. if nothing else, it opens a window to the possibility that such acts are conceivable, and IMO prevelant

Ah, of course. Everything I need to know about blowing things up I learned in Hollywood. 'Cuz nothing says realism like a Hollywood action flick.

Yes, Hollywood is responsible for the devil's influence and helping the cause of terrorism. I think we should all band together and make sure that no more movies are made in the US, ever. Oh, and no more books, magazines, newspaper articles, TV shows, radio programs, or internet will be allowed. It might give the terrorists ideas. I'm sure we can do all this with the great and wonderful "Predident Bush" leading the way!

WrongStuff: In case you are as humor-impaired as most of your right-wing brethren, the above was an example of what is known as "sarcasm". Look it up. It's spelled s-a-r-c-a-s-m, just in case you're too damn stupid to spell it yourself.

The nerve of that movie, suggesting that people try to overthrow an oppressive regime. It's un-American, I tell you. Never, NEVER would anyone in this great land of ours attempt to undertake such a thing as overthrowing an oppressive government. Well, okay, that one time, but never again. It would be completely un-American to believe that we could, or should, start a revolution against the form of government we live under. If the Founding Fathers had tried it, they should have all been shot. A true patriot knows that only blind subservience will lead to true freedom.

Again, dipshit, the word was "sarcasm".

So, when you become a NeoCon, do they remove your sense of humor too, or is it just your free will and your ethics?

Mike

Remember, Kiddies, you can't spell "QUAGMIRE" without "I", "R", "A", & "Q"!

I find it curious that the country w/ was on the receiving end of the NAZI iron toed boot kicks to the head back in WW2, England, would turn around and accuse their own Gov't of morphing into much of that which they finally defeatd. And for anyone to accuse Bush of anything remotely close to what this sad fantasy portrays, is literally beyond belief.

I'm sure the Islamo-fascist would love to watch "V" over and over again. Pointless violence and destruction is their game.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

what exactly are the signs of a runaway government? when they stop doing the will of their citizens maybe? when they control media outlets to propogate their disinformation as fair and balanced news? what about when it betrays its founding principles and actively seeks to destroy the very documents which once underlined its foundation? or better yet, when it creates false flag terror operations to decieve, and subjugate its populace into accepting motives contrary to liberty and freedom and truth; or a cloud of secrecy so thick that lies become truth become no-one can tell one way or another...

gotta love that president!

Tony Snow goes from the private sector, and works for the White House, you scream colusion! George Stephanopoulos moves from Clinton's White House to "mainstream media" and you don't bat an eye. I find THAT interesting.

False flag terror operations? Please, cite ONE example.

oh..so you think im a liberal, and that i only attack republicans. im sorry your mind has been intentionally divided by bogus idealogies, but i hold everyone accountable, and im perfectly willing to place blame on Clinton, as he was a proponant of this same agenda.

this is the problem of those who choose to deny the obvious. you dont want the truth, you want to continue believing a lie, otherwise you might do an independant search for "false flag operations" and see the hundreds, if not thousands of times its happened throughout history.

but for Gods sake, let me show you a few myself:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Northwoods
operation northwoods- plans by OUR government to attack Americans and blame it on cubans

http://www.truthmove.org/insight/tonkin.html
the gulf of tonkin incident, later proved to have been doctored or outright excaggerated in order to draw America into the vietnam war

the spanish/american war, operation Gladio...and that doesnt even touch upon the Soviets, the British, the Israelis. its all documented... i dont owe you a history lesson, im not qualified to give you one anyways.. but what, do you think I invented the term false flag operations? its a proven military strategy.

actually, the term "Devil's Advocate" comes from the Catholic Church, when a person put up for Canonization (big fancy word that means "to be made a saint")someone in the church would be appointed "the Devil's Advocate" whether they were allied with Lucifer or not. now, the term means that you are simply presenting evidence that something many ppl believe to be good is in fact bad.

No, I don't think so. The fundamentalist Muslims that I've known wouldn't have anything to do with anything western except in a very heavy handed "know your enemy" sort of way--kinda the way a lot of bloggers want us to read the Koran. They tend to see western culture and ideas as a disease that is destroying their world. Any Al-Qeda dudes aren't sitting around debating terrorism, they're living it.

And of course, Terrorists don't see themselves as "terrorists" any more than fascists see themselves as "fascists." Terrorists are merely doing what's necessary to achieve political power in a world where their people have no hope and fascists merely think that their country and its leaders are just a little bit infalible; they believe it's really just a matter of common sense that their great country should rule the world and no one in their right mind would ever question it. Those who do are morons and mentally ill and, ooh, I almost forgot "helping the terrorists."

"V: etc." is a rich and rewarding fantasy of personal empowerment with pretentions of political relevance. Gotta give them Matrix boys props for going for all the marbles, but you gotta admit the actual movie fell somewhat short of the mark in the final reel.

Hugo none the less hit it out of the park and Natalie actually made me believe that Evey Hammond wasn't simply a deluded victim who'd fallen for her abuser--something even Alan Moore couldn't do in the original graphic novel.
