"Government doubtful of NFL threats"

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Web site is claiming that seven National Football League gridiron stadiums will be attacked with radiological dirty bombs this weekend, but the U.S. government on Wednesday expressed doubts about the threat.

The threat, posted Oct. 12, was part of an ongoing Internet conversation titled "New Attack on America Be Afraid." It mentioned NFL stadiums in New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland and Cleveland, where games are scheduled to be held this weekend.

The Homeland Security Department alerted authorities and stadium owners in those cities, as well as the NFL, of the Web message but said the threat was being viewed "with strong skepticism." Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said there was no intelligence that indicated such an attack was imminent, and that the alert was "out of an abundance of caution."

"The department strongly encourages the public to continue to go about their plans, including attending events that involve large public gatherings such as football games," Knocke said.

The FBI also expressed doubt about the threat.

The nation's alert level remains at yellow, signaling an elevated risk of an attack. The threat level for airline flights is at orange, a higher level, where it has been since a foiled plot to bomb U.S.-bound commercial jets was revealed on Aug. 10

Of course they're doubtful. Everyone knows the "threat" is scheduled for November 6

I would really like to find out if they issue KI to the teams.

KI?

It looks like a teenager in Milwaukee was resposible for the threat:

"Milwaukee resident may have posted stadium scare"

But, what the hell? Neither the Jets, Dolphins, Falcons, Seahawks, Texans, Raiders, or Browns are in the NFC north. One would think he would target the Lions, Bears, and Vikings. It's the only way the Packers are gonna' make the playoffs...

LOL Traveler! I'm not surprised if it's a prank. Terrorists usually don't announce their plans, it kinda defeats the point.

Hi FT,

KI is potassium iodide, used to flood the thyroid to keep it from picking up radioactive iodine after nuclear events. No home first aid kit should be without it.

A teenager, eh? Some prank ....

And yeee haaaa! I got a reprieve from going out into the field today. I really did not want to spend all day on a dirty smelly factory roof in the hot hot sun ...

The only "dirty bomb" that's going to be hitting any NFL stadiums this weekend is when the Raiders take the field.

"When I write my memoirs, that sh!t'll be in there, guaranteed."

That's kind of been the running joke here in the bay area since this story cropped up, "How would we know if they hit Oakland?"
