Our survival is dependent upon scarce resources.

Nihil est incertius vulgo, nihil obscurius voluntate hominum, nihil fallacius ratione tota comitiorum.

Nothing is more unpredictable than the mob, nothing more obscure than public opinion, nothing more deceptive than the whole political system.

This one.

I have yet to encounter a problem that didn't stem from insufficient Firefly.

BINGO. Our willingness to cooperate allows inttricate diviison of labor but also allows the sociopaths among us to prosper. Our self-sacrifice allows us to raise helpless infants but also to give our lives in war. Our ability to learn lets us accumulate information from one generation to the next, but also to supercede reality by propaganda.

Too much obsession with professional sports. Actually, just professional sports. You get these people whinging about how space travel is a waste of money, yet they are perfectly happy closely following the machinations of a "profession" that involves millions and millions being spent on boring jerks kicking (or in some cases, throwing) a ball around a field. I've got no problem with sports in an amateur capacity, though.

Hmmn. Such a broad topic and interesting responses thus far, as diverse as this site and shorter than I expected. I suspect we might get some pithier responses but don't think this one from me will be one of those.

Humanity itself includes such a broad spectrum and if we start with looking at the basic needs, per Maslow, basic survival would be at the bottom, a place to live, enough to eat, clothes, etc. At the top if all other needs are met, the assumption would be that those folks would be self-actualizing and moving toward altruistic endeavors, assisting those less fortunate in meeting their needs.

In between are all the rest of us altho I expect folks on this site have moved up the ladder and aren't on the bottom rung, having computers and all.

So my view (at this moment in time) is that humanity's biggest problem is fear of not getting enough (what they want) or loosing (holding onto) what they have. As long as we live in a state of fear and feeling that there isn't enough and we have to hold onto what we have, then there will be hoarding, fighting, war and separation. A recent thread (maybe you posted it, I don't remember) was on the topic of patriotism. It's my belief that patriotism like religion can lead to exclusivity, separation and justify greed and lack of compassion. I'm not saying patriotism and religion aren't good but rather their use in justifying behavior.

Perhaps we can never get to a place of acceptance and tolerance although I still hold out some hope. Only then, I think can we begin to work on solutions together for the good of all regardless of their country, religion or other identity.

Guess I was a bit more verbose than I planned to be.

Lack of real, meaningful personhood.

Normally I don't care for Jeffy, but this piece he reposted for someone else nails it pretty solid.

It's always interesting to me that the very traits that probably allowed us to reach our current position are also traits that seem to be pushing us to self destruction.

Yes, that is an interesting and salient observation. Perhaps it goes with the belief that "if a little is good, then a lot is better." So do we continue working harder at the same thing even if it's no longer working? Or do we move on to something else, something different and see how that might work? It's always difficult to change course from the known to the unknown.

BTW. I have a cat. Does that mean I'm a nice person?

Humanity's biggest problem?

Obviously its the massive asteroid heading our way that the Luciferian secret societies have'nt told you about while they prepare their underground bunkers in anticipation of the destruction of Mankind.

HAHAHAHAHA.... In your face Humanity.

Or, on the other hand it could be blind cinicism.

The biggest problem humans have is the cancer of liberalism. Liberalism has had many positive impacts on society. But look were our progress has gotten us. A culture that punishes success, stifles creativity, and discourages productivity. It is a culture that encourages failure, personal, professional, and even political. It is a tragic evolution of American culture and proof that our system is not infallible.

Or maybe its just the French. Yeah, the French are humanity's biggest problem...and the designated hitter, and artichoke hearts on pizza. And hairless cats.

there is plenty of space for people. but if thats how you feel, im sure the world elite have ways of scaling back the populace; which is entirely rational, even 'justifiable' in light of 'saving' humanity...
