Liberals prefer spiders, maggots and bloody babies:

PN you misunderstood the data.

Liberals do not "prefer" maggots. Nor do Liberals "react the same" to threatening v non-threatening pictures. They just don't REACT AS STRONGLY. They don't feel as "threatened".

I've said for a long time that some peeps on this board like Finn and Auraptor are fear-filled. They react from fear, fear drives their responses, and because everyone else isn't running around with their hair on fire the fearful one assume that nobody else "gets it". And, the politicians know this. McCain, Palin, Bush, Cheney, Rove... they push that goddamn fear button every single campaign. Whip up fear of "the terrorists", Muslims, "socialists", the unknown. It's called the FUD Factor (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. Google it. You'll find some interesting info.)

I can't speak for others on the board, but I DO "get it". I understand that we have enemies perhaps more than they do, as I was pretty much expecting 9-11. I just don't crap my pants about it.

Libs are generally less fearful folk cause they just don't feel threatened by anything less than a real threat.

Anarchists don't even fear that - it's why they have, historically, a habit of doing damn stupid things.

So you belive the conspiracy theory that 9/11 was an Outside Job? By the same Muslims who are now gonna be elected to the White House?

It's just when you meet an intruder in your home at 5 AM, or you've seen your child seizing relentlessly and turning blue, or sat on a friend's porch at night with a gun waiting for a nutter to show up with a gun... a lot of other stuff becomes irrelevant.

Kirk, since when have I ever discounted Obamas lack of respect for the 2A as less than a credible threat ?

Damn right it's a credible threat, which is why I am planning the stonewalling and political kneecapping right up front, to make sure it doesn't happen - and stockin up on stuff ain't a bad contingency neither.

But I don't buy into the boogeyman of some global caliphate with WMDs that every mainstream media tries to spin a bunch of smack talkin sheepherders in some backwater cave into, no.

While it is impossible to prepare for every manner of threat, those who prepare for the challenges they DO see, are often around to bury the less fortunate.

Me, I think the primary threat comes from our own administration, no matter what puppet they install in the oval office - and specifically our own intelligence agencies, which have done more harm over the years to america, it's citizens and interests, than any terrorist could possibly hope to accomplish.

I ain't too concerned about a buncha shitheads a couple thousand miles away with no airforce, no navy, and no real organisation other than a mutual hatred which would fade in the face of more immediate concerns if folk would stop provoking it at every turn and corner.

I AM concerned about the buncha shitheads in DC and Langley, having proven themselves far more dangerous, and far more willing to commit actual terrorism against us.

Obama happens to be one of those shitheads, no doubt about it, but when it comes to deciding between something that MIGHT get you killed, and something that WILL get you killed, the choice is obvious, although damned if I can say I am happy about it.

I'd ask you what you bagged, but in this day and age of paranoia and the fuckin gestapo spying on every cursed thing they can reach... I think not.

I will say that I hope ya nailed bag limit, eh?

Damn, and I thought my M1897 was a beast when I slam-fired the whole mag downrange, but that's a bit of a phsyical challenge now given age and suchlike has been creepin up on me...

I wonder if they make a bigger mag or drum attachment for this horror, hmm...

I don't get it. I know LOTS of people who are stocking up on weapons in anticipation of an Obama presidency and the expectation of a new round of weapons bans. I'd hardly call that a death threat against Obama.

There are no doubt REAL threats against him that need the Secret Service's and FBI's attention.

And Frem, congrats on your early Xmas present. I'm quite jealous. I *want* the Romak PSL-54 "sniper" rifle (it's really a knockoff of the Russian Dragunov SVD "designated marksman's rifle" which is no longer allowed to be imported), but I think a Saiga S12 would be much more practical.

I think there are 10-round mags available (check your local laws first, so you don't end up in violation of 922r), but you want to avoid some of the drums, especially the ones from "Wraithmaker", which every report I've seen lists as simply horrible in fit and function.

The Saiga line is really earning lots of respect. I got my li'l Saiga 7.62x39 back when they were just a cheap post-ban "sporter" rifle based off an AK mechanism (got it for around $150, brand new in the box), but now they've gained a lot of legitimacy, and the S12 is one of their highest-regarded models. They're hard to find for less than $500, and they're hard to find in stock at any price!

There are lots of cool options available, which there certainly weren't when I first got my little rifle. Now I can fully outfit it with fresh stocks, handguards, hi-cap mags, scope mounts, fire control groups, and the like, if I feel so inclined.

I look forward to hearing how you like it.

Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, love is a matter of odds. Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and fewer would derive love from it. Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticle, and together, achieving a singular purpose, against statistically long odds."
- HK-47, Assassin Droid.

The Saiga12 is downright evil, Mikey.

Bear in mind that my idea of a "fair" fight it a 50kt submunition against an irate Llama, okay ?
(and some day I might even explain why I hate em so much.)

I have utterly ZERO concept of a fair fight, and the school system oughta be damned glad that I did not wind up reading Enders Game a lot earlier than I did - Stilson had it coming, ya ask me.

And so, I gotta say that when it comes to loading the odds in your favor, the S12 is top of the line and probably unsurpassable by anything not belt-fed.

Imma have to use brass-shelled handloads for home defense though, if you leave the mag in over time it kinda sqaushes the top round if they're plastic, we'll save those for the range, I think.

Recoil was not as bad, and yet worse, than expected, and I can bang out a pretty good rate of fire with it - trick is, while you're slamming a mag downrange, felt recoil is perceptibly less than expected, but once you let off and port arms, holy CRAP that hurts, first time you do this you might drop the thing, it's like it all comes on you AFTER you get done shootin, and man oh man does it.

Remember, I am 5'6" and 130lbs soakin wet with boots on, so you can imagine this monster cannon leaves me standing a little bit further back at the end of the mag than I was to begin with, yes ?

Although not NEARLY as bad as one buddies goosegun, a side by side Richland 10ga, holy hell that things practically an AA cannon.

Oh and did I mention that thing is LOUD, jeeze, I hope I never have a home invader, even if I put the whole mag in the ceiling, we'll prolly both be on the floor with a concussion, augh.

Reloading was a bit of a trick with the original mag, but the larger polymer ones make it a no problem situation.

Imma have to have the trigger redone tho, I think... it's a bit stiff.

I reserve concern for both - Hoover, COINTELPRO and the Church Committee hearings proved to me beyond doubt that they're quite capable of horrific shenanigens on their own with or without orders, or even in direct defiance of them.

Did you know that they were called on the carpet by congress after a field trip to the Soviet Union to drool over SORM-II ?

And explicitly forbidden to build it, explicitly forbidden to fund it, and also explicitly forbidden to ever use such a thing on americans ?

Three intentionally seperate congressional directives, just so to be abundantly clear, yes ?

And what did they do ?

IMMEDIATELY built Carnivore and set it to use, on americans, later upgrading to Omnivore and doing so in complete defiance of those directives and their own charter, those putting them in the "rogue" category - right up till the Patriot Act retroactively cleared them.

I don't trust any of the alphabet goons, they're worse terrorists, and a greater threat to america than anything the middle east could cook up, and history proves that beyond one whit of doubt.

I hold a special hatred for the BATFE, who's sole intended purpose is more or less to prevent folk from exercising a consitutional right, and since yanno, we DID nullify prohibition, and no amendment exists outlawing tobacco, kind of has a counterproductive existance, doesn't it ?

Anyhows, nice catch there, Kirk - I've gotten to play with an SG 551 before and it seemed a right reliable and solid piece of work, and meets even my high standards for a weapon, so good on ya for buyin quality.

Quote:

Imma have to have the trigger redone tho, I think... it's a bit stiff.

That's due to the trigger group being relocated to the rear of the receiver, to preclude you from putting a pistol grip on it. If you get the trigger group redone, be very careful who you trust to do the work, or do it yourself. Check out the legalese very carefully before doing ANYTHING, since on a lot of Saigas, even using a higher-capacity magazine can put you in violation of federal statutes. It's why I've left mine alone for now, and go with the standard-issue 10-round (7.62x39) Saiga mags. For the S12, I think the standard-issue mag is a 5-rounder.

If you rework the trigger group and move it to its proper place (right up behind the mag release), it will make a world of difference. First time I fired my MAK-90 (with the trigger in the proper place), I'm damned lucky it was pointed downrange when I put my finger on the trigger, because it went off before I was ready! I was lining up on the target, and had my finger just resting on the trigger, and it surprised the hell out of me. And THAT is how I re-learned the lesson of never touching the trigger until you're on-target. With the Saiga, it was never an issue, because it takes a hefty pull to fire it, since you're pulling a trigger attached to a long wire spring attached to a hammer, instead of a trigger simply attached to the hammer, as it was designed to be by Kalashnikov himself.

There are perfectly legal ways to bring your S12 right up to spec AND stay 100% legal and compliant. Just make sure you use enough US-made parts (Tapco G2 fire control group is recommened) to replace the stock Russian-made ones. Usually, replacing things like the trigger group, gas piston, stock and foregrip, or even adding a flash suppressor or muzzle brake is enough to keep you compliant.

And you're handy with tools and machinery, so I'm told you'd be MORE than qualified to do the conversion yourself. Tromix, one of the highest-regarded gunsmiths who does conversions on LOTS of S12s and other Saiga models, usually has a pretty good backlog of orders, so they're not turning work around very fast. But I'm told the workmanship is simply fantastic.

I'm glad you got the S12. I know you like your shotguns, and it seems like it would be a natural fit for you.

And Kirk, looks like you scored pretty good, too. I'm still trying to convince they wife that guns aren't just for fun, but are a solid investment, but she's holding the pursestrings pretty tight right now... I've been intrigued by a sweet little AK Bullpup that's tempting me out of $400. It would fit right in with my others, but still be different enough to stand out.

And I'm with you on getting more proficient with one caliber than worrying about having ALL the calibers out there. I tend to like multiple weapons in the same caliber when I can pull it off. Makes it a LITTLE easier to stock up on ammo, too - and that's no easy feat at today's prices! 7.62x39 used to cost me eight cents a round; now it's $0.23 a shot! It's tripled - And that's in less than five years!

Lessee...

Well, I neither need nor really want a pistol grip - it would screw up my ingrained swing-to-target style, as I am intensely familiar with the M1897, and not so physically mobile, right ?

So, weight of fire to counteract lack of mobility, and I shall leave pistol grips to the tacticool wannabes, I think.

I am having my gunsmith add the bolt open lock, muzzle break, mod the trigger group for a smoother pull, adjust the gas settings for best recoil damping with 2-3/4 single 0 shells, adding a Pachymar decellerator recoil pad, and adapting a SureFire 618FGA to fit my current lighting unit.* - I could do alla that myself, but he owes me a couple favors so why not collect, given the way he gripes that I never quite let him pay off, hehehe.

The mags are a 10Rounder made by someone else I know, the guy who gifted the thing to me in the first place, who does, mind you, actually LOOK quite a bit like Santa, which just adds to the hilarity, and a 20 rounder drum based on the MDArms design, which works perfectly fine.

While I am fully aware that a semi-auto shottie with a 20round drum behind it is massive overkill for prettymuch any job outside of an army penetration team, like I said, I have utterly no concept of fighting fair, and it's prettymuch a given that should it come to "the gravest extreme" I plan to be sitting there in the end of it with my feet propped on the baddies smoking a cigar to offset the reek of burned powder and that wet coppery smell, while calmly awaiting the local trash pickup (read: coroner) to tag em, bag em, and get em off my floor so I can get to cleaning up the mess.

I'd rather not have to of course, but if there's one thing I've learned in my misspent youth, it's that the only thing that REALLY matters is who's still standing when the last piece of spent brass hits the ground, and damn well I plan for it to be me.

As for "sporting use"... fuck "sporting use", there's nothing SPORTING about it, this nasty monster is for the express purpose of defending home and hearth, which, if I could afford it and get away with it, would mean a T72 sitting out front with an automatic infrared targeting system and a range-based fire control.

Like, really, dude, get OFF my property, yes ?

I don't collect em, don't give a rats what they look like, and don't care what they're worth, just how well they work - for me it's all business, and that business is makin sure my ass doesn't catch a hole in it, the best way of that being to make sure the other guy is right full of em, point taken ?

By preference, best if they run screaming into the night and never come back, but if they plan to make a fight of it, no way in hell imma give someone a fair one.

Now to mention it's decidedly unpleasant to be beamed with this monstrosity at close range, which, followed by "GO AWAY, NOW! in a sepulchral growl is enough to make anyone human a little weak in the knees.
