You, whoZIT and a few others make me ashamed to be associated with you in the same space.

If a person stumbled across this site and wondered what kind of people are these browncoats - and read your posts - they would probably never have anything to do with Firefly again.

BTW --- in order to be a joke, something has to be funny. Unremittingly stupid, crass, mean and gross - like your posts - does not count as funny. Except, well, maybe to idiots like you.

Anyone who'd judge Firefly from a brief glance at one of its fan boards and not the show itself, isn't anyone I want to to call a fellow Browncoat.

Humor involves a hint of truth for it to be funny. True, Muslims aren't big fans of our canine friends, but the JOKE is that the Obama's are NOT Muslim. Asserting they are, after all the nonsense that's been said about them, IS the joke. Obviously, the beautiful daughters are not muslim, so the absurd notion tying little girls who were promised a puppy to Muslms who don't like dogs results in the juxtaposition commonly referred to as 'humor'.

There's nothing crass, mean or stupid about my post. Those who see it that way are to dim witted to worry about, or they've got a stick up their rear end which keeps them from finding humor in anything.

See, I was gonna go w/ a Michael Vick reference, but thought that there was nothing funny about the torture and suffering of making dogs fight each other. Figured I'd leave that sort of humor to the late night t.v. show circuit. They're professionals, ya see.

Pits do get a bad rap, which is stupid cause they're some of the sweetest dogs ever.

Relative of mine raises em out in the boonies of tennessee, and the only danger you face from that pack, is drowning in slobber when they start wanting petted all at once.

I'm not really much of a dog person, as is obvious by my horde of cats, but if I ever had a dog, it'd be some half-sized lab of dubious lineage...

I've never in my life seen a dog as loyal and stalwart as that, and he wasn't even mine!

Belonged to the neighbors, who, once he wasn't a cute little puppy any more, banished him to the backyard and prettymuch ignored the poor pooch.

Every day goin to work, comin back, or to the store, I'd chat him up, pet him a bit, maybe toss him a snack, sometimes, a hambone for xmas, drumstick for thanksgiving, but mostly, it was the company and affection that he craved.

Someone broke into their house once, and all he did was go into his little corner of the yard and sit there - but oh heaven help you if you so much as came NEAR my motorbike, he'd rip your goddamn arm off, once even broke his chain, leaped the fence and chased one would be thief a couple blocks.

Regardless of the legal ownership, in spirit he was MY dog, true and through.

Ironically Barney, the current First Dog, bit a reporter the other day.

Good boy.

I think whatever they get it should be a rescue puppy and not a store-bought puppy. I volunteer on weekends for a local rescue and I've fostered and adopted out five puppies since September.

A Miniature Yorkie Terrier would be funny too...

One of my ex's, her uncle had one, and it was kind of... aggressive. *snicker*.

I hear this tiny itty bitty buzzing sound while I am reading something he showed me in a local paper, and for a bit I thought I maybe caught my pants leg on the end table...

Finally, I look down, and there's this teensy tiny itty bitty dog maybe the size of a freakin hamster, with a mouthful of my pants cuff, growling and yanking for all he's worth cause someone dared sit in HIS daddys chair.

I reach down and pick him up gently, and stare bewildered at him as makes ferocious little faces and snarls at me, growling and twitching all the while.

And then I had to put him down cause I nearly laughed myself sick, it was just toooo funny.

I always wanted an Airedale when I was a kid, and Irish Terriers are great too. My grandparents used to have an Irish Wolfhound, and he was absolutely the sweetest doggie in the world. Of course, on the other hand, his idea of playtime was tackling you then proceeding to lick you to death (provided you didn't drown from the gallons of slobber first). Ah, good times.

Well,I'm not one for tiny dogs. You can't go out and run with them and roll down a hill. If it's little you might roll over it. Ya know?

You can't go wrong with a Retriever. They're friendly, loyal, and easy to train. A loved retriever will be by your side always. It might shed a bit though.

The best dog I had was a German Shepherd mix. Fiercely protective but easily taught who was friendly. She was super smart and could control herself indoors better than our large retriever could.

My gut said a Springer Spaniel, but it's been done a time or two before so that's right out. A Beagle would be fun and easy care.

Hrm. How about a Schipperke?

I think they should get a mutt. Most of my pets have had unknown origins and they were all awesome dogs.

I vote Belgian Malinois. Of course, I'm biased - I'm lucky enough to have one of a pair that were dumped at my old job when they were about 4 weeks old.

Secret Service uses them because they're smart as a whip, loyal, and smaller and easier to transport than their German Shepherd cousins. Malinois only get up to around 45 pounds, but still retain all the traits of German Shepherds. Mine learns tricks very easily, often in as little as one or two tries. She's very "treat-oriented".

As a bonus, the Obamas' new puppy could actually be a Secret Service dog, fully trained to take care of the girls. Of course, no special training is needed - they're fiercely protective of the people they're attached to anyway.

Rescue dogs can be good to have, not to mention you're giving a previously neglected/abused dog your love ^_^ *but* that being said, you have to be very very careful with them, because I've had experiences with some rescue dogs that are just a bit dodgy, and those poor things are hard to deal with.

Greyhounds are sweethearts, but very high energy

I sometimes babysit my neighbors Greyhound / Border Collie cross, and am always amazed at her speed.

I take my lab and her to the park and throw the ball for them, she runs to the ball, past the ball, and my lab has the ball back to me before the greyhound has used the entire park in a highspeed turn around to come back.

I would recommend Labs, loyal, smart, live to play, adaptable... and they don't mind alot of people coming and going.

Yes, they are sweet! And, they are high energy and amazingly fast, but only if they are chasing something. But for that, they have to actually be awake. Most of the time, they are breathing throw rugs.

Greyhounds are naturally lazy, because they are sprinting hunters (not retrievers, not herding dogs, not terriers, not "working dogs"). Because the hunt is an all-out affair from which it takes days to recover, they must conserve energy so that they have the energy to chase down prey successfully. No need to chase, they are more than happy to rest up. Ergo, lazy. If there is not much happening, they tend not to make much happen. Now...

Border Collie / Greyhound mix? Tee hee! The Border Collie is an amazing herding dog, arguably the smartest, highest energy of them all. Must be doing something all the time. Go go go dog. Furthermore, it is more likely a Border Collie / Whippet mix. Whippets came from crossing terriers, a go go go dog, with small Greyhounds. They look more like a small Greyhound than a terrier, and are indeed sighthounds, same as Greyhounds. So, what you have there is a dog that is up to two-thirds go go go. (Whippets are often affectionately called "turbo-terriers".)

If you were to meet an all-Greyhound that is four years or older, I'll give you a 50/50 chance of the animal being upright at the time. I kid you not.

Yep! But I am a tad biased...

Maybe it is the Border Collie in her, but even in her own house she is back and forth running ( chasing their cat and other dogs around ) for at least half the day.

Funny thing the owners were afraid to let her off leash, they thought she'd be gone. I let her loose at the park, let her run a bit then tried to do some off leash healing, and she picked it up right away.... loved it.

I like to think she was just grateful to me for letting her run... mind you now everytime she sees me outside she trys to get out and run to me ( knocked the screens out of the windows a few times )

I have what has to be the worlds most lazy lab. Take her to the park, she'll retrieve until she decides shes tried then she takes the ball and sits next to my jeep.

One of my other neighbors has two Great Danes. Super nice dogs, sleep alot. Funny when you see them looking over a 6 ft fence at you.

Lets party like its 1939

I guarantee you it is the Border Collie in her! "Gotta herd! Gotta herd! Gotta herd!"

Never a good idea to let an all-Greyhound off leash in an unfenced area. If it decides to chase something, its cannot be recalled; and if it gets out of sight into unfamiliar territory (which at 45 mph does not take long), it is lost. Most unlike a Border Collie!

That is most assuredly a lazy Lab, especially considering she's supposed to be a retriever. LOL! A Greyhound will chase a ball until it stops moving. It will then look at you as if to say, "Make it go." *snort*

Greyhounds sleep like Great Danes, oh yes.

A couple things I observed with some of my dogs. A Lab WILL retrieve; it doesn't have to be trained to do so. My Lab (Daisy) would, from the time I got her as a tiny pup, chase anything I threw, grab it, and bring it back and drop it in my lap, then sit happily waiting to do it again.

A Doberman Pinscher, on the other hand, won't so much "retrieve" as "kill". I'd throw a ball, she'd chase it down, pounce on it, and proceed to rip it to pieces. Ditto her favorite little stuffed animals, starting with the eyes. Always the eyes. Kinda creepy, really, if she hadn't been just the sweetest dog in the world. For more on this kind of stuff, Google up "doberman teddy bear collection".

FREMDFIRMA

I'll put squirmy the three legged cat up against y'alls fetch doggies any day.

She don't have so much range cause she's nearsighted, and no vertical leap worth a mention, but she's like the damned energiser bunny when she gets rolling.

She will bring you a milk ring and annoy you into throwing it by adoring you to death while trying to hand it to you, and keep bringing it back till she literally falls on her side wheezing, and even then she's back at it in ten minutes or so.

And if you try to get slick and toss it where she cannot reach it or find it, or fake the throw, she will simply go over to the corner of the hallway carpet under which she keeps her stash, and get another one - the only way to get out of it is to play on her short attention span by giving her food, attention or something else to play with.

Also, every once in a while she randomly decides some ordinary object is "evil" and proceeds to go completely full bore berserk on it, we've yet to figure out what her criteria seems to be, but wow that poor amazon book manifest never knew what hit it...
