As much as I criticized the current administration, I never WANTED for them to do something that would hurt this nation just so I could do a told-you-so, I think the attitude that eagerly desires Obama to fail miserably is patently un-American at best, and near traitorous at worst. I have been told that I hate my country because I've disagreed with war & torture policies...so what is it when you actively want to see your country crash & burn, huh? Patriotism?

I call for peeps who said they want to see our country fail to apologize, but more importantly, I want Whozit to take that stupid bagel comment off his sig!!!

Of all of the liberals, libertarians, progressives and moderates on this board I can think of a lot who dreaded Bush f*cking up and who were pissed off about it, but NONE who said "Yeah! We want the crazy bastard to do more!" So guys and gals, are you really looking forward to seeing Obama f*ck up for the sheer pleasure of being able to say "I told you so"? Don't you think that's being anti-American?

I did not vote for Obama (Ron Paul's my man!) but I fervently hope he is able to repair a lot of the damage that has been done the past eight years. I predict he is going to be a lot more conservative than his campaign would lead you to expect. For anyone to hope for the opposite is downright sickening.

During the Bush administration I would have loved to see Bush, Rove, and Cheney destroyed, but not America. By destroy Bush I mean jail.

Jilted Republicans right now are psychotic and childish. Very much the "If I can't have you nobody can" destruction mentality. They are all in withdrawl. The symptoms they show are because they no longer have access to the Presidential teet in thier own minds.

Hopefully the destruction mentality won't agitate too many James Earl Ray Republicans, or a desire for the economy to get worse. They have a need to rationalize the idea that Bush wasn't the worst decision of thier lives.

Absolutely 100% NOT.

I saw Bush taking us over a cliff economically, Constitutionally, and militarily. I wasn't looking forward to it, I was frantic about it. I hated Bush BECAUSE I thought he was failing America... and because under him, I thought America WOULD fail. And indeed, it has. Putin's prediction about Iraq ("Iraq will be your Afghanistan") sadly came true.

Now, you and I have very different notions of "fail". To you, to failing is "losing a war". Your notion of patriotism is IMHO anathema to the Constitution. Your vision of America is very different from mine and, I think, gravely shortsighed. But I have never said- and neither has anyone lese here- that WE thought you wanted America to "fail". We may have disagreed with your goals but we've never impugned your motives.

But you, Whozit, Rapo, BDN and a boatload of other right-wingers seem to have absolutely NO PROBLEM assigning anyone who disagrees with you with the basest of motives. In your mind, we can all hardly wait until America is tottering on its last legs. It never crosses your pathetic, feeble minds that maybe we have a different vision than you, but that we ALSO want what's good for America. You really think that you, and you alone, love your country, and that you and you alone know what's best.

Yanno what?

you.

That’s so much Bullshit, it’s pathetic. Maybe they hate Obama because they see him as driving America over the cliff? Oh and by the way, the hate Bush crowd started before he was even in office, so nice try.

All of the sudden all the hate Bush crowd who spent years accusing anyone who didn’t outright despise Bush of being a “jackboot” are now masturbating to this new administration. God these people are sick.

As far as the hate Obama crowd - I'm as surprised as you are that a man with socialist leanings and direct connections to domestic terrorist and racial supremacists would get elected in this country, but for whatever reason he was elected and elected fairly as our president. I personally support him as our president and I hope you will too. Whatever you do, do not become like the twits that are now desperately trying to regain some shred of credibility.

It's one thing to say I hate Obama because he's bad for the country.

It's quite another thing to say I hope he fails the country and even worse to say You and many of your liberal friends displayed this attitude {hoping Bush would fail} on regular bases in this thread and are now masturbating to this new administration.

Who the f*ck do you think we are??? Every progressive that I know is looking at Obama with a great deal of skepticism. Every progessive that I know was frightened of what Bush was doing this this country. NOBODY was cheering him on hoping he'd ruin the Republican Party and the nation! Please AUrapter, show proof of any liberal wishing for America's downfall as blatantly as whozit has. I don't recall anyone here ever saying: "I really hope we fail in Iraq and our economy crashes just so I can point the finger at Bush and drink the tears of his supporters!" The only people who might have muttered those words are the likes of Bill Orally, falsely representing Bush critics.

As for ad hominem:

ad ho⋅mi⋅nem
1. appealing to one's prejudices, emotions, or special interests rather than to one's intellect or reason.
2. attacking an opponent's character rather than answering his argument.

Whozit's desire to drink tears looks to be a product of emotion and prejudice, with no logical argument at all. It's all about whozit's need for personal triumph. Chrisisall's statement is a logical argument: failure of Obama means failure of the country, and wishing for such a thing is truly unpatriotic. Criticize the Obama things you don't like, sure! But wishing for his complete and utter failure is ridiculous.

The problem with that is Harry Reid and others like him, including Obama, were claiming that the war was lost and surge had failed long after the surge had become a phenomenal success. What Reid and others like him, such as many of the twits on this board, were trying to do was turn a success for America into a failure, because they hated Bush.

And the problem with that is how you don't seem to understand that people have different definitions of *failure*. The goals set down at the onset of the surge were not being met, and Bush was, as usual, shifting those goalposts, redefining success to make himself look good. Reid disagreed with that, as did many others. Didn't mean he hoped for it - it's just how he saw the situation.

But that certainly is debatable, since I can see that you define success differently, and in the end you want the same thing I do: America doing well.

What is NOT debatable is your suggestion that Reid hoped for failure in Iraq. What you quoted is in no way comparable to what whozit (and others) are doing here. The comparable thing would have been if Reid had said, in 2003 when the war was just starting, that he really really hoped Bush would flub it up just so the Democrats could throw a helluva party.

"Break out the Jack and savor the tears of mothers losing their children by the tankload, because as long as Bush fails it's all good for me!" Wouldn't you be pissed as hell if anyone had said that? And yet it doesn't bother you when whozit says pretty much the same thing?

Not much reading comprehension there, huh Finn?

No matter how bad things are, and how much they go down the toilet, as long as it's Bush's policy you insist it's a success, right? Unlike those who want actual success, as in the end of war, the honoring of the Constitution, personal freedoms upheld, and a healthy economy. See - real success. Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding amongst some people about what America is.

Some people see America as all of those people at the top, those people in charge.

I think America is all of us, here at the bottom.

Some people think that if you abhor the people at the top, you are therefore hating America.

I think that if you abhor the rights and needs of the people on the bottom, you hate America.

And then there's other people, still.

These people believe America is US, and they despise THEM, and when THEM is in charge, they hope to see everything fall apart. That way US can return to power.

It's their wish to see THEM fail, and US succeed, and it escapes their notice that THEM and US together are what forms U.S.

We all boom or bust as one.

Again I quote Nate Silver, because it just fits Finn so well:

"[This is] in a nutshell, why conservatives don't win elections anymore. It is not that conservatism generally permits less nuance than liberalism (in terms of political messaging, that is probably one of conservatism's strengths).... There are a certain segment of conservatives who literally cannot believe that anybody would see the world differently than the way they do."

No wonder these types of right-wingers are so often fearful and paranoid. Anyone not exactly like them is the Enemy. Poor Finn. What a scary world he must live in.

Jilted Republicans right now are psychotic and childish. Very much the "If I can't have you nobody can" destruction mentality. They are all in withdrawl. The symptoms they show are because they no longer have access to the Presidential teet in thier own minds.

Funny, you admit in one breath how you wanted Bush to fail, and then act all indignant if anyone DARE to even have the slightest desire to see THE ONE fail.

Quote:

Hopefully the destruction mentality won't agitate too many James Earl Ray Republicans, or a desire for the economy to get worse. They have a need to rationalize the idea that Bush wasn't the worst decision of thier lives.

But of course, you wanted Bush to go to jail for not breaking any laws, but when it comes to Republicans, we're all wanting to assassinate our President, not just throw him in jail.

Amazing

Finn, nice to see you've finally crawled out of you hole. I figured you were sheltered up somewhere crying in your booze for the next 4 years or more.

How does that make Cheney a " sociopath " ?? It was a hunting accident, with bird shot. YOU deal w/ it.

By definition, anyone in Gov't who wants to " spread the wealth " is a socialist. Governments aren't the source of any real wealth, they simply take from the citizens. When there's talk of spreading the wealth, it's the taking from the rich to give to those who'd likely vote for the party in power.

Sorry Mal, but your delusions , of what those of us who didn't vote for Obama, don't determine our views toward him, even a little bit.

You posting " 0 for 1 " doesn't make it so, especially in light of how you fail to even TRY to elaborate and defend your position. If anyone struck out on 3 straight pitches, it's you.

You're a hypocrite for saying you want Bush in Jail, and then turn around and vilify anyone who isn't an Obamamaniac.

and your mischaracterization of why we don't like Obama can't be expressed in terms of how bad his policies are, but instead you have to cling to the " RACE " card, w/ the reference to " James Earl Ray Republicans ". Either we love and obey blindly the new Presidenrt, or we want to murder him. That's how you see the world, huh?

Sorry missy, but if Obama lives to be 112, I'd still want him to serve 1 term in office, not because he's black, but because I DISAGREE with his politics and know they're bad for this country , ESPECIALLYN NOW!
