It's for squirrels. Little bridges for squirrels to use to cross the highway.

Apparently, if the state doesn't use the money, they'll lose it, so this scheme to build lots of little bridges for squirrels has come into play.

Seeing as how a squirrel needs about 2 inches of space to walk, and less than five pounds of structural support, I wonder how many bridges we're getting for our nearly half-mil investment in our furry friends.

Of course, this isn't really about squirrels. It's about $400,000 worth of salaries and materials investment. A bridge to nowhere, so to speak, on the Federal dime.
