America loves a winner!

Wish her the best of luck. Looks to be a nice day to get hitched.

Anyone have any thoughts on the price tag? It's reported to be in the area of 5 million dollars for the blessed event.

Hey... if mom and dad got the $$......

But $ 5 million ?? By comparison ( daughters of the President getting married ) Jenna Bush's wedding was reported to cost around $ 200,000.

During tough economic times, what sort of message does it send ? That so much $ can be spent on such a transitory endeavor ?

During these tough economic times it is nice to know that the caterer and the florist and the musicians and the servers and the location will all be paid.

Would they otherwise not be paid ? Were those services not furnished at the Bush wedding ?

What if the roles were reversed ? What if Jenna had the multi million dollar wedding, and the Clinton affair was 20 x's smaller ?

Would your feelings be exactly the same on the matter ?

Yes.

I would be happy that the people providing the services were getting paid. I don't give a shit how much someone spends on their wedding. As long as the money is legally theirs they can spend it anyway they want.

Yours is a straw man argument. There's no issue of whether anyone would or wouldn't get paid.

But if your position is that folks can do with and spend the money which is theirs , provided it came to them by legal means.... then that's good to hear. I'm glad.

Barry won't be attending, I not sure if there are any people of color on the guest list, plenty of A-List Hollywood celebs tho.

Maybe Bill is dating a person of color and will bring her......and then will have sex with her in one of the limos while Hillary downs double shots of Jack and in the flower garden. It should be a good time for all.

Chelsea's a smart gal. Why would she want Mohammed Huessein Obama at her wedding after he called her Dad a racist a while back? She's so smart she made Dad sign a 24-hour pledge note that he would not fondle, grope, squeeze, or molest her girlfirends attending the wedding. Of course Nancy Pelosi will be charging Chelsea's wedding gift to her personal taxpayer-funded Mastercard.

FMF, yes I'm happy for them too. In these times, I imagine expensive weddings like that are fewer and they need to earn a living, too. You're pretty slow on the uptake, RivKaneZit, she was saying it's nice they got the BUSINESS, y'know?

When I look at what some people spend on weddings it makes me blanch. Some people start out in debt--or leave their parents in debt--for a ceremony that lasts, what, an hour? Certainly they're welcome to it, it just saddens me to see people start out in debt, when there are so many other things they'll need. Seems such a waste...

Give us your fearless predictions for the upcoming midterm elections. Put some numbers up.

Do you think the Tea Party is going to sweep into power? They aren't a party, so I rather doubt they'll pick up much of anything, since there aren't any official "Tea Party" candidates.

Do you think the Republicans are going to run the table and take every race they're in?

Do you think they'll pick up a few seats here and there, but not gain control of either the House or the Senate?

Do you think they'll pick up a majority in one or both houses, but fall short of a veto-proof majority?

Or do you actually think they're going to pull off enough of an upset to claim a veto-proof majority in both houses?

Or do you not get how any of that even works?

After 2000 years, why can't Jewish men find a better way than a bobby pin to hold down their yamakas?

Naw, Mike; if they gave specifics, they'd have that much more to dodge when it doesn't happen. Like "So-and-So will wipe their asses"...then what if So-and-So loses? See?

Easier to make grandiose generalizations, then you only have to be picked on about the one statement. Goodness; by now you should know that.

Will be fun, tho', when November rolls around and their majestic predictions of an overwhelming sweep by the right/Tea Party doesn't meet their expectations. At this point, virtually all their candidates will have to win for their predictions to come true. Just THINK of how many rationalizations, insults and topic changes they'll have to go through. As to your predictions; of COURSE Dems will lose some seats (tho' if your guys keep putting up people like Angle, even that might be questionable...). Every "out" party loses seats in the midterm, so that's no excuse. No, it's gotta be BIG for you to brag about it, and I'll be right here watching and waiting.

Tho' your guys have brainwashed the country enough and played hard enough on stirring up the country's frustration and anger that you may win more than expected...in which case, maybe a return to Dumbya's policies. Either that, or much more Party of No...no extension of jobless benefits, no loans to small businesses, more freebies for the rich, less regulation of Wall Street, Big Oil, Big Pharma, so they can run amok. Won't that be fun, it'll REALLY set the Dems up for a 2012 win!

Point is that November isn't gonna bring the "sweep" your buddies think it will, and that saying SOME Dems will lose seats is irrelevant, as the party in power always loses seats in the midterms. So if they lose some, your prediction is no prediction; if they don't lose LOTS and lots, your prediction is false.

As to worst Prez in History, we'll have to wait and see. Right now Dumbya's got that one down cold, according to historians. This in 2006 by Sean Wilentz, one of America's leading historians:
Quote:

From time to time, after hours, I kick back with my colleagues at Princeton to argue idly about which president really was the worst of them all. For years, these perennial debates have largely focused on the same handful of chief executives whom national polls of historians, from across the ideological and political spectrum, routinely cite as the bottom of the presidential barrel.

Now, though, George W. Bush is in serious contention for the title of worst ever. In early 2004, an informal survey of 415 historians conducted by the nonpartisan History News Network found that eighty-one percent considered the Bush administration a "failure."

The lopsided decision of historians should give everyone pause. Contrary to popular stereotypes, historians are generally a cautious bunch. We assess the past from widely divergent points of view and are deeply concerned about being viewed as fair and accurate by our colleagues. When we make historical judgments, we are acting not as voters or even pundits, but as scholars who must evaluate all the evidence, good, bad or indifferent. Separate surveys, conducted by those perceived as conservatives as well as liberals, show remarkable unanimity about who the best and worst presidents have been.

MUCH more of the reasons for this assessment can be found at http://www.commondreams.org/headlines06/0419-06.htm

By 2008:
Quote:

A recent poll reveals that the majority of professional historians believe George W. Bush's presidency to be the worst in US history.
Quote:

In a survey of 109 professional historians conducted over a three-week period through the History News Network, 98.2 percent assessed the presidency of Mr. Bush to be a failure.

Asked to rank the presidency of George W. Bush in comparison to those of the other 41 American presidents, more than 61 percent of the historians concluded that his presidency was the worst in the nation’s history. Another 35 percent of the historians surveyed rated the Bush presidency in the 31st to 41st category, while only four of the 109 respondents ranked the current presidency as even among the top two-thirds of American administrations.

That's while he was still in office. Currently:
Quote:

Siena College Research Institute’s (SRI) Survey of U.S. Presidents finds that the 238 participating presidential scholars rated George H. Bush’s Presidency only four from the bottom of all Presidents.

The current president, Barack Obama, while highly rated on imagination (6th), communication ability (7th) and intelligence (8th) scores poorly on background (family, education and experience) and enters the survey in the 15th position. George W. Bush, had entered the survey at 23rd when the study was last conducted one year into his first term. Today, just one year after leaving office, the former president has found himself in the bottom five at 39th rated especially poorly in handling the economy, communication, ability to compromise, foreign policy accomplishments and intelligence.

No he didn't. He *pretended* to go after them, and then let Bin Laden get away.

Asked about it in March 2002, he said this:

Quote:

"I don't know where he is. I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him."

Boy, that's takin' it to 'em! In fact, he "went after" them so hard that he allowed planeloads of Bin Laden's family members to leave the U.S. in the week after 9/11! You go get 'em, Bushie! Heckuva job!

yeah, W said that alright. While we had troops in country and predators in the air, trying to ferret OBL out of his caves.

If W admits that he's consumed w/ OBL, and can't get him, then that becomes a bigger recruiting tool for al Qaeda, and a bigger PR advantage. To " diss " the terrorist leader like that, shows how little regard W has for him, all the while we're making life for him miserable , and keeping him on the run.... it demoralizes OBL, his crew and those who follow him.

Don't think we've actually seen a video of OBL since he went cave diving, have we ? Oh, we've had " confirmed " audio messages, but a verified video ?

Ever wonder why that would be ? A 10 second clip of him standing in front of a sheet - anywhere, and holding up the front page of any recent news paper.....

Okay, here's where you lost me...

Don't we have MORE troops in the country NOW, and MORE Predator drones in the air doing strikes against Al Qaeda?

So who were you referring to with the "tea and crumpets" thing? Tony Blair, perhaps?

Whereas if Dubya engineers an illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq based on phony intel and flat-out lies, THAT won't be a recruiting tool for Bin Laden AT ALL, will it? He wasn't demoralized - he was recruiting more than ever, all based on Dubya's constant blunders and fuck-ups.

Well, you'd think that if we "got him", you'd hear something about it somewhere. I seem to remember something about "getting" Saddam; why would Dubya keep Osama's death or capture under wraps? Just to help out the anti-war Dems?

Well, it's kinda funny, Niki - I asked RiverLove for specifics, and Kaney kept repeating that he wouldn't give specifics.

Not a very smart sockpuppet.

Now, do I need to again dig out Riverlove's prediction in 2008 that Palin for VP was the end of the Democratic Party? Do I also need to dig out the post a few months later, after the Democratic sweep of the elections, where a humbled RL bitterly admitted that Palin was an empty suit and a failure?

And here the cycle begins again: RL predicts wild success for Reps and Palin.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

hmm-burble-blah, blah-blah-blah, take a left

Well, Rappy made the same prediction. At least he had the decency to leave RWED in humiliation and defeat when his world crumbled. :)

GEEZER

Keep the Shiny side up

I don't know. Maybe little stainless steel disks implanted in the scalp and neodymium magnets in the yamaka would do the trick. Anything's better than those bobby pins. Might cause problems at airport security, though.

Might not be kosher, either. Something in the Old Testament about not cutting on the body for vanity, or some such...

Maybe a little double-sided tape. Hurt a bit taking it off, though!

Again, and slowly this time.....I do not know how many seats they will take and I don't think it will be a sweep. I do know the prevailing sentiment is to bounce libtards out of office. I also believe it is because Obumma's agenda is unpopular. Read what I just wrote, again, once more......Oh, I almost forgot....you are gay.
