Christians participated on a grand scale. There was no great christian opposition to rounding up Jews and shipping them off. Christian concepts were woven together with pagan and other incons of religeous significance. It wasn't christianity leading the way, no. It was christians readily being led "astray", which says to me that religion and the cherry picked messages within only become relevant for critical masses when it can be used as a tool to channel anger and justify taking.
