Artificial islands are notoriously unstable. Tides. Currents, rain and rivers determine where there is land, and if you argue with that, given enough time, mother nature is sure to correct you on that.

I've become dubious of suicides of the powerful. I don't think they happen, but businessman is vague enough it could apply to anyone. Here's what I don't believe: businessman commits suicide over economy. Even his own economic collapse. I know enough already to know that it's not having but knowing how to make that determines success in business. You have to be able to take twenty bucks and turn it into a running business or you don't belong in business.

That said, because we have inheritance, there are a number of people who can get into business without knowing what they are doing.

Only problem with that is I can't see under our current economic structure how you can get rid of inheritance, since death tax only gives the govt. A vested interest in your own death.

My proposal to date has been that the liquid assets of the dead be deleted. It would have to be a complicated arrangement, but I know that inheritance gives us our ruling elite.

It happens. It is often more complex than a headline, however. It is possible to build a life for yourself that is inherently profit based. Everyone who knows you and professes to care for you is there to make a profit. Possibly also your social skills are so tied into buying and selling people that you are unsure how to relate to them without this lever.

When you lose your money, there is a sudden crushing status loss, and literally everyone in your life may suddenly become hostile, indifferent, and/or alien to you.

So losing money is more than losing money. It's about losing your entire social construct. If you have not prepared yourself for the event with blackmail parachutes and robust hidden savings, then your life, as you knew it, is essentially over. You may recover, but by then you will have lost everything you currently have that is of value. Any self-delusions maintained by wealth quickly fade away.

It is in such moments of despair that all men may be tempted to end it all.
