From a consumer point of view, you put up with all the indignity and hassle of rigid "security" procedures so that you can be assured this type of stuff doesn't happen.

Except it does.

So we put up with all the power struggle and grandstanding of high school graduates for all the competence of high school graduates.

And then Samuel Jackson uses one of those boxcutters to cut a hole through the side of the plane.

It's hard to explain how the most hated job in America can't seem to fill it's rolls with good, decent people... how's that possible? It's like all the negative press has made smart, employable people want to look elsewhere rather than be hated. Crazy!

Huh. I was called a liar six months ago for pointing this out.

I don't fly, but if I fly again, it will be because I have an airplane. I had too many close calls with homeland security, or rather, its counterpart in other countries. DHS did detain me for three days once, but they were really pretty nice about it. Some of their foreign counterparts are all gun to the head. And I used to travel quite a lot. Hence my sudden interest in sailing ships ;)
