Washtenaw County commissioner banned in '07 from Michigan president's office bears no grudge, wants to meet - elsewhere

As Washtenaw County’s youngest commissioner, 22-year old Yousef Rabhi is excited to forge strong relationships with the University of Michigan, his alma mater.

He just can’t do so at Fleming Administration Building. University police can arrest Rabhi there. That’s because campus police arrested Rabhi and banned him from the building after he and others staged a sit-in in Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman’s office there in April 2007 over the school’s purported use of sweatshop labor for U-M apparel.

The protesters wore suits. Rabhi, a freshman at the time, said police were respectful and friendly, and that, despite the ban, his subsequent interactions with Coleman have remained cordial. He said neither side was threatening or upset that day.

This is on top of a lot, I mean a WHOLE LOT, of racist and religiously intolerant bullshit Rahbi has had to put up with since, the latter making no sense whatever cause I think Rahbi is Catholic (I didn't ask him, mind you, cause it's none of my friggin bizness).

Not to mention a most screwball election with a completely bizarre outcome, as it in effect hinged on two votes, his and mine!

He's actually quite a decent fellow, and smart enough to distrust the everliving hell outta me.
But I don't hold that against him, his heart is in the right place.

And as screwed up as the current situation is, at least it's not as bad as a former one in Sumpter township where Elmer Parraghi and one of the other township officials who worked in the same building had mutual restraining orders against each other after a knife fight in the parking lot - a situation eventually rectified by a recall election of Elmer FUD as we called him (cause his very NAME invoked Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt!) in which more people showed up to vote him OUT, than did to vote him in.

Local politics around here are... weird, and they only get weirder when you have a self-proclaimed evil overlord in the background handing out brownies with little evil smiley faces on them....

Interesting. Nice to see young people trying to get involved, maybe he'll come up with some new ideas.
