Just thought it was curious that our story made it over there. Fracking battles rage here.

Why do I read Haretz? or the People's Daily? You've seen me cite all sorts of sources here. It was linked from google news, that's why. I search news on fracking daily, you have to when you're fighting a political battle.

Short answer: people have differing opinions. As I just said, I listen to everyone. I want to know what people think at AllAfrica.com. I like to hear what the National Review and the Nation have to say. I weigh all opinions more or less equally.

The question I would ask is "Why don't you?" Do you narrow your sources to only those that agree with you?

Here, I was reading because they were writing about my local news. I don't really follow their local labor disputes in Tehran.

You want to know where I get most of my news? India. You know why? Because most news that is written in the English language is written in India. That's because that's where most of the people who read and write English live.

But last time I checked, Iran wasn't an enemy of the USA. Or of Israel.

Anyway, their summary of the story is pretty on target, but nothing new to those who have been following it locally. Just curious that it made international news in Iran, and also, I thought that it might strike some people.

ETA: You need to get out more ;)

Is this the new creepy?

Here's a simple answer: Because it's there. And in English, which I can read. And is linked to from Google.

You have a problem with the Tehran Times?

Yank, not 'hold'. Perhaps the idiom is lost in translation ?

Auraptor, at home, yanking his chain.

I guess this answers the question, it is the new creepy.

Let me know if anyone was interested in the content of the article.

Perhaps this section of FFF needs to be retitled "Personal Attack Discussions, where real world events are mentioned, then ignored."

Are you six ? The term is 'yanking YOUR chain', as in toying with another... and having fun at their expense.

Good gracious, you folks are dense.

Hello,

Perhaps re-post again with a new title. I think this stream is contaminated.

A DT a chara,

This is a huge issue, I really appreciate you for bringing it to my attention because it sounds absoutely awful and I think its really good that you are fighting against it. Water is my element and I love being in it, lakes, rivers, streams, the ocean. The idea of people putting super dangerous stuff in it in such a fashion sounds horrid. So far this hasn't come up at all in my state, which is why I'd never heard of it before you explained it to me. And good for the Tehran Times, hopefully they can prevent it happening in their country by getting the word out about how bad it is, more power to them.

It makes sense that DT found this issue in the Tehran Times, he'd probably look for all sorts of info about this topic because he is passionate about putting an end to this dangerous and reckless practice.

Iran can avoid fracking until we beneficently give them "regime change." If only we could do the same here

I found it there because that's what google linked to, but I search on the topic fairly regularly and have posted stuff on it before.

Here's more in depth

http://www.oregonlive.com/opinion/index.ssf/2010/02/cracking_down_on_f
racking.html

Careful to not confused vertical fracking with horizontal fracking. Vertical fracking uses water with no added chemicals, so the only contamination can come from the gas itself. Horizontal fracking adds up to a thousand toxic chemicals by millions to billions of gallons to the water supply resulting in permanent toxification.

If fracking were done by an enemy, it would classify as a war crime under international law, and there seems to be no dissent on that point. Ergo, to do it to your own people means that I can only find two other ways to describe it: As an act of genocide, or an act of terrorism. Take your pick.

So it looks like vertical fracking is a little safer, though not an optimal thing by any means, I don't like either.

Notice that the believed natural gas (and oil shale!) reservoirs are also upstream of... pretty much everyone in the US.

In other words, they're all in recharge and headwaters areas.

New England is looking nice this time of year ;)

Riona,

Vert. Fracking is done to normal gas wells to get an extra 10% out of the well. It could also stand to be banned.

Re: Horizontal fracking, Also, it is tipping us off to the fact that shale really only holds about 10% of what a regular well holds, despite industry claims, and wells so far in Pennsylvania are bearing this out. They're also bearing out an incredibly high accident rate. 6 months ago, their failure rate was 1.5%, now it's 3.0%. Critics say failure rate is going to continue at 3%/year, for the next 30 years.

Byte, yep, looks like they're trying to kill us all. Of course, it's not a war if no one fights back. I already said that the survivors will look back at us the way we often look back at the jews in Germany before the holocaust Re: "Why didn't they fight back?"

One failed well is capable of permanently contaminating an entire watershed.

This isn't really surprising. Most of the geologists I know have been saying for YEARS that oil shale and gas shale aren't viable because of the content and pore space issues, coupled with the fact that they're harder to process than oil or gas from other material. If you think about the properties of the medium, it's pretty obvious.

Then you intentionally try to disturb large scale areas of explosive and shockable gas in order to increase product... What do they think is going to happen?

If the industry isn't aware of it and aren't doing all this on purpose or at the behest of some crazy agendas, then they have to be extremely stupid.

They must be aware of it, they probably just don't care, they aren't forward thinking enough, they can make a proffit at it now so thinking about tomorrow doesn't seem as important, they probably talk themselves into believing that some new thing will be invented to reverse the dammage they did, so they figure it will all work out, :(

I used to be a less skeptical person, and I would've still probably have tended to lean towards Riona's "thoughtless greed" agenda if I didn't know for a fact that Byte was right one this one.

The people involved in promoting fracking are folks like T. Boone Pickens who are already heavily invested in fresh water distribution and water monetization.

Sure, under these people are some hapless dupes who are driven by senseless short-term greed. Globalists have relied on the cretinous nature of humanity to do this sort of thing for a while.

Since the fracking industry has nominal net gains at best on its own, it has to have been designed on a rob Peter to pay Paul model in order to work at all.
