Hubby works at a place and recently they had a meeting where they said "We know you will do whatever- but please... Don't do this shit"

Apparently a good ol' boy here were found in woods naked, babbling, and psychotic covered in various animal bloods...after 3 days!(Stays in yer system a while)

Anyway, did some skim research and found over 600 instances in 2010? versus none the previous year. Also, this stuff supposedly comes from China...I guess they got tired of poisoning their own babies and decided to mess with us. If you look at the insane ingredient list- you can't help but think this has got to be a coordinated terrorist plot of some kind...... AND WE'RE DOING IT TO OURSELVES! Has made for some fascinating bad news stories...Is this stuff in Europe too?

Talk about a legal defense...Sorry, I was on bath salts....Uhhh, we can't test for that yet....

methylendioxymethcathinone
methyenedioxypyrovalerone
methylmethcathinone
methoxymethcathinone
fluoromethcathinone

cathinone comes from a plant that originates in Africa!

China and the Netherlands.

But yeah, some people are smoking them to use as recreational drugs, and yes, it's dangerous.

Yet more SVOCs and VOCs that are toxic. Intoxication, from TOXIC, means the substance damages cells, means BAD FOR YOU.

There aren't laws on the books but they can still charge you with a DUI or drunk and disorderly, especially if they get a confession out of you that you took anything.

There's also this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_cannabis

Wait a minute - was he doing this stuff at work, or on his own time? And if it's the latter and not the former, and if it's a "legal" thing to have and use, then should he be fired from his job for doing something not illegal on his own time?

I think the "naked and covered in blood" part of the story might have a role in the "illegal and fired" thing.

But we'd need more information.

Besides, depending on the job, it's not like people haven't been fired for entirely legal activities outside of work. Example: don't drink a lot at a wild party and facebook about it, especially if your employer is very strict about image.

We can argue whether that's right or wrong, and I'd say that it's probably an infringement on the employee's privacy, but that doesn't remove the precedence for termination.

I would be completely fine with the company firing him, even if he wasn't doing it at work. that stuff takes away from your ability to focus and do your job well, so if he's working at a mine he needs to be focused and attentive and paying attention to his job, for his own safety and for the safety of his comrades because mine work can be dangerous. So I side with Wish on this one, thank goodness that's one less irresponsable person working around her husband. His irresponsability comes from choices _he made to ... snort? ... eat? ... injest? bathsalts. that's just stupidity.

We'd definitely need more information. Naked in the woods, covered in animal blood. I can imagine there are places where this is not only legal, but part of some coming-of-age ritual, similar to a hunter being "blooded" with his first kill.

Yes, it happens. Does that make it right? Warrantless wiretaps happen; warrantless searches happen; a state supreme court even says you don't have the right to defend yourself if the cops kick in your door by mistake, but must meekly comply, or die.

Are any of those things remotely "right"?

Are even the so-called libertarians here now endorsing firing people for participating in what may well be legal activities?

I think Byte meant that it happens, not that she agrees or disagrees with it.

I've never claimed to be a Libertarian, I'm not, so I can believe whatever I want/say whatever I want.

It's okay. I had a long day complete with public transportation shenanigans and I'm hungry. Going to go attend to one of those things now.

Dear god, he's got his job back...after a 30 day "suspension" for "unrelated matters"

Company letter...you are no longer responsible for drug dependancy disorders.
Let's not hold anybody responsible for their screwups...can't do that...

Wish, bummer. People who do that kind of stuff in their spare time really can't be trusted to be safe and vigilant at a mine in my opinion.
