Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Obviously Mengele's experiments under the Nazi regime were horrid. But it seems he did not hold the patent on cruelty.

This is only one incident of many we should feel shame for. This is why people distrust governments.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Government isn't the only powerful institution to play with people's lives -

* Black lung disease was first reported back in 1822 under the name "miner's asthma." Medical professionals thought the symptoms from black lung disease were asthma-related. In 1831, the term "black lung" was coined when medical professionals discovered the blackening of miners' lungs. Over a century later, coal workers' pneumoconiosis was created in 1942 by British medical professionals trying to specify the dust disease plaguing coal miners.

* The first published case (of mesothelioma) appeared in the British Medical Journal, authored by W.E. Cooke in 1924. It was identified as "pulmonary asbestosis," a condition in which the pleura -the membrane that covers the lungs and chest- filled with fluid. Inhaling asbestos fibers was stated to be the cause of the disease, which helped to distinguish it from the coal mining related diseases.

* Although lead poisoning is one of the oldest known work and environmental hazards, the modern understanding of the small amount of lead necessary to cause harm did not come about until the latter half of the 20th century.

* report says cigarettes cause cancer 1954 (1)

Remember when teachers, public employees, Planned Parenthood, NPR and PBS crashed the stock market, wiped out half of our 401Ks, took trillions in taxpayer funded bailouts, spilled oil in the Gulf of Mexico, gave themselves billions in bonuses, and paid no taxes?

Yeah, me neither....

More of pioneer of now thriving industry.

Human experiments provide valuable informatjon that mouse experiments miss. You just need a regime unethical enough to do it. Umfortunately, there are several of them about, and not only do they do their own, we outsource to them, just as we do with torture.

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.
