Hello,

I can't quite figure out what the protesters were arrested for. It doesn't actually say.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

First paragraph:

Quote:

Actress Daryl Hannah was arrested Tuesday during a sit-in in front of the White House protesting a pipeline expansion project that would significantly increase the amount of oil the United States imports from Canada's controversial Alberta oil sands.

This is about a pipeline from Canada to New Orleans that is essentially a 1600-mile potential oil spill and terror target.

ETA: Oh, now I get it - you were saying it doesn't say what she was charged with. What the CRIME is. Probably the catch-all, "Disorderly Conduct". It gets you arrested and booked into jail, and then they can quietly drop the charges later, but it still gets you out of the area and away from the White House.

What makes this proposed one so special?

The larger picture is becoming clear to me. This is the Obama energy plan: (I really think it is, it's not left right nonsense, a non-partisan environment vs energy epic battle)

The fracking does produce natural gas, just not in the way they claim. By fracking the earth, they will *find* regular pockets of nat gas, not "micro pockets." ergo, most fracking wells will be dry. Those that return will be regular nat gas wells. This is just a cheap and quick way to find all those deposits.

That gas will then be shipped out to canada, and used to fuel this operation, where massive areas of primeval forest are being destroyed to clear a giant gas field, (radically bad for those on the co2 level watch, regardless of whether or not it contributes to GW.

Then, the oil can be pumped without using any of the oil for energy (this is what the saudis do*) and the oil will come down to the US in a major pipeline (this is also what that NAFTA highway was about: getting the trucks up there.)

* Almost anything you see in the industry seems to come from s. Arabia or texas, shows who is doing it.)

The blue gold water conspiracy hitched on to this for the obvious reason: the water is pristine and plentiful in our oh so screwed neighbors to the north. The water pipeline will be laid right next to the oil pipeline.

Contaminating the US domestic water supply gives NAFTA complete control over both water and energy. Industry cannot run nor people survive without an okay from the unelected ruling elite of NAFTA.

Note, this might be Obama's idea of "energy independent" but it makes *America* MORE dependent, and dependent on NAFTA, not Canada.

I can see where they hate solar and wind: that's basically home rule of energy, it's like local food. If we can produce it ourselves, we don't need them.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I don't think it's that complicated. It's about reducing US spending on foreign oil, by whatever means necessary. Deep ocean drilling continued and expanded? Check. Fracking? Check. Approving ANWR and coastal drilling in sensitive areas? Check. Mountaintop removal coal mining? Check. Nuclear energy? Check. More oil and gas pipelines? Check. All of the above? Check. The two things it doesn't seem to include - energy efficiency and renewables. But hey, it's good for large energy companies which make it good for Obama's political life and it's good for reducing imports. By Obama's triangulation, it must be the best answer.

Remember when teachers, public employees, Planned Parenthood, NPR and PBS crashed the stock market, wiped out half of our 401Ks, took trillions in taxpayer funded bailouts, spilled oil in the Gulf of Mexico, gave themselves billions in bonuses, and paid no taxes?

Yeah, me neither....

Addendum: Looking into the Alberta mess, some of the companies involved are from Korea and China. Maybe it's just the greater powers that be, and they are DSK, and we are a chambermaid. I think America is the new debt bitch, and we're getting raped, and canada with us, and NAFTA is just a bogus trade treaty like WTO which allows our invasion but anti-environmentalists.

Kiki,

If you check, you find that some of those energy policies went through, others did not, some were cut back, others completely stalled.

Yup. A tactic used to good advantage by Bush's people AT BUSH GATHERINGS, not just the White House.

I keep reminding people: There is no such thing as "domestic oil" or "foreign oil", and we can't know what oil we get from the Middle East, or anywhere else. It's sold on a global market, people, and the use of those terms is politispeak, nothing more.

Go Daryll! At least she does something well...acting, not so much!

Was she naked ? Because I don't really care unless she was naked.

O.K. I'm kidding. If she had done this 15-20 yrs ago, I'd want her naked ( like in Splash ). Now ? Not so much.

Tell me about it. I held a candle for her for well over a decade.

I didn't even recognize her in the Kill Bill movies, though.

Exactly. We don't get any kind of price break whether it's drilled here, there, or everywhere.

As time goes by I understand where DT is coming from more and more with this, I don't even think he sounds that off kilter about it anymore, its starting to make sense to me. It wouldn't surprise me at this point if he was totally right about this one.

I don't like it when protestors get arrested when they haven't really broken a law. Not okay with me. If Ms. Hannah wants to protest an oil pipeline and she isn't harming anyone in the process then leave her be people, shouldn't have anything to do with famousness or obscurity.

My dad used to have a big crush on Daryl when I was a girl, when I was in middle school and early high school he thought she was very pretty, then he lost interest. His favorite Daryl movie was Roxanne. My favorites are Splash and Clan of the Cavebear, the latter holding a special place in my girlhood as my first R rated movie.

There's Obama's side, Daryl Hannah's side, and then there's Auraptor's side, hope it's not too loneyly over there ;)

Yes, she was a hottie, and she said she wanted children, I would have been glad to help her out there. Sadly, she forgot to swim upriver to spawn, so no younger version is available, except on video.

Watching this I see how much we've slid into insanity. This was a family film, and was rated PG, there were no "parental warnings" because she was going to naked for much of the film. It wasn't deemed particularly important.

Find "Dancing at the Blue Iguana" on video and your wish will be granted.

That's O.K. I have Sarah " drill baby, drill " over on my side.

How'd she never end up having kids ? That's odd. I mean, it's not like she didn't play the field... Jackson Brown, JFK Jr, etc... but I can respect that. If you don't find the right person, why raise a kid ? Just because it happens so often, doesn't mean we all have to conform to that mindset.

There are enough folks having 100's of fat children in this world.

She may have been infertile. It's a surprisingly common problem. It would be ironic for someone cast as the genetic ideal in so many roles.

Curious that in a line up of Daryl Hannah movies no one has mentioned Bladerunner yet (is this gratuitious, like posting nightwish videos?)

Of course, it's true, she's not as old as she used to be

I thought I'd add High Spirits to the list of fave movies.

I don't think she gets a nude scene, but the consolation prize is pretty nice: While she becomes fully visible under whatever circumstance, light of the full moon or something, I forget, her dress is not so lucky. It's entertaining through the entire film.

ETA: It also ranks high on my favorite ghost stories. I just read what it's based on, but I've forgotten. I feel as if I should know.

Omygawd DT, how could I have forgotten Blade Runner?!?! I shall now slink off to a corner and hide my head. You're absolutely right...and THAT was even ACTING!

I gotta Netflix this High Spirits...looks yummy. Looks like semi-comedy? I love ghost stories. I'm a mad fan of Rose Red, can watch it over and over (and I do), loved it even before I knew the history, which made me love it all the more!

Will check out High Spirits. Thank you!

Still, surprising to hear , and that she didn't try ( or maybe she did ? ) other options.
