Will Congress go postal on the Postal Service?
Will thousands be out of work soon?
Will I get my junk mail?
Will USPS= United Suckers Pining for Security?

I love the Postal Service. It's part of what made this nation.

Hi Chris, I'd be pissed off if the postal service ended, as would all of us I reckon.

I want to see that movie, never have gotten around to it. I wish he had gills, spoke Lakota and sailed boats in it too. :)

Yeah, while not stellar, the movie wasn't that bad, it's worth finding in print as well - cause the notion behind it, how belief becomes reality when people have hope, is a pretty good message and the story is told fairly well.

Wo man, Waterworld rocks! Sure it didn't do so well at the box office but its stood the test of time, my dad and I love it, we own a copy and most of the people I know who've seen it enjoy it. Just sayin, even if you don't like it I loved it!

Sorry RE, I didn't mean to demean that which you love, only to say that The Postman is a worthy flick that I believe outshines Waterworld in writing & execution.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Waterworld is that film where the main character decides to use an apparatus to filter his own urine, rather than desalinate the water all around him, right?

I enjoyed The Postman and only wish the ending had been different. Otherwise a very good film.

Yeah Anthony, that's the one, that scene is pretty silly isn't it. But he has gills ... I mean ... wow! I wish I had gills, and it creates an interesting, though impossible, world and has a unique story to it, well unique enough anyway. I just think its super cool.

Chris, I'll give the Postman a try, you've renewed my interest.

I think the film sucked compared to the book, or so I have heard.

Waterworld wasn't so bad, if you consider it as an overfinanced B-flick, besides, it lead Costner to help in the creation of some damn useful technology, if anyone had given it half a chance that would have been majorly helpful in the gulf spill.

I got some personal amusement out of how the little brat was talking soooo MUCH smack at the smokers about how badass the Mariner was, and then when he actually shows up...
"Ha. you guys are in SO much trouble..."
That was hi-larious, it was.

I boycott Costner films. Althought Dances is now my all-time favorite movie, the way his ego has grown put me off him, so I haven't seen any of his recent movies. His craziness equally put me off Mel Gibson.

I thought Waterworld was crap, but that's just me. I enjoyed his older stuff for the most part, tho'.

I'm just more bugged when a main character is portrayed by someone who can't act. I mean, he's only got two modes he can play: flat voiced cocky, and flat voiced wise and inspirational. In both of those his emotional range consists of a slightly louder version for anger or speechifying. And he's only got three expressions, rakish grin/smirk, straight faced, or dull surprise straight faced.

Right on, Byte. That's the other reason his movies don't interest me, even before I disliked him as a person. Dances was wonderful, but not because of HIM, and I never thought he was much of an actor.

Dances is what caused his ego in the first place.
But:
-No Way out co-starring Sean Young=AMAZING

-Revenge co-starring MAdaline Stowe=ALMOST AMAZING

My wife thinks he should only be allowed to make sports movies: Field of Dreams and Bull Durham are great, Tin Cup at least funny, but both Water World and The Postman are pretty bad, as is Robin Hood; and some of the comedies he's been in are just awful.

Now it's time for me to butt in...I liked Robin Hood...Partially because I've always had a fixation on Robin Hood(The original super-hero!) ,I'll admit, but I think Costner's wooden acting actually fit the writings of the period...He's cheesy, so were they...And ALAN RICKMAN! Who doesn't like Alan Rickman?!!

I also liked The Postman. And I liked the movie better than the book(granted I was still a teenager when I read it). Could be I'm biased on that account as well...They threw in Tom Petty just for random acts of coolness, and I'm down with that! And wacky post-apocalyptical stuff is just fun!

See, I just lower my expectations when I go see any movie...Then I can allow myself to actually enjoy anything that just manages to capture my attention...Not every movie should be an epic masterpiece, after all...

Maybe it's living in Indiana that has lowered my expectations...Just about anything beats watching corn grow...

And P.S. I STILL USE THE POSTAL SYSTEM! You can take away my right to see a papar bill when you pry my checkbook outta my cold dead hand!!

I liked Robin Hood too, but more because Robin Hood is cool and Morgan Freeman is in it. I agree that Kevin isn't a very good actor, but he's in a lot of good movies and he always gets the coolest roles. Anything wative rocks (people choosing their own culture and joining it) and gills are so cool and sailing boats are nifty and we all know Robin Hood is super neato, and post apocolyptic movies are fun.

Wish, neat: I've watched Robin Hood several times, despite hating Costner and being of the firm belief he can't act. I've watched it exclusively for Allan Rickman; I'll watch about ANY movie with him in it, I have such a crush. And he CAN act! Oh, and Morgan Freeman, who I adore. But Robin Hood: Men in Tights was SO much better (and yeah, I've had a crush on Cary Elwes for decades too...not from Princess Bride, but just after that, Glory, which I thought was an incredible movie).

As to

I do, too...which is why I watch most of the crappy made-for-TV sci-fi movies on the Sci Fi Channel which they run nonstop on Saturdays. So it's not living in Indiana (for which you do, however, have my sympathy), it's who we are. I won't hazard a guess what that IS, but I'm in California, where there's more stuff to do than you could shake a stick at, and still I'm like you. Go figger!

NewOld: Costner's done COMEDY?!? DO tell me what, I'll have to check it out just for morbid curiosity's sake...I canNOT envision the man doing comedy!

Yeah, I adored Bull Durham, but then I'm madly in love with Susan Sarandon, enjoyed Tim Robbins' character, and loved the writing. Field of Dreams I could do without nicely, as well as Tin Cup. I did TRY to watch Waterworld...for about ten minutes...and you'd have to drag me to Postman kicking and screaming.

But I'd love to see him try comedy, it would be funny just to watch!

I will admit with embarrassment that I actually OWN Dragonfly, and enjoyed The Bodyguard (but that was because of Houston), Silverado (when he was young and FUN), and the Untouchables (where his woodenness DID work for him). But ever since Dances, with the exception of Dragonfly and Bodyguard, I've had no use for him (in other words, from 1990 on, when his ego--as a result of his amazing success with Dances--got the better of him).
