"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

/

Andrew Breitbart calls for violence against liberals:

Quote:

Tea Party favorite Andrew Breitbartz told a conservative audience in Massachusetts that conservatives outnumber liberals and have most of the guns. He also claimed that the military is ready to take action against liberals if violence ever erupted between liberals and conservatives.

“I’m under attack all the time. They call me gay, there are death threats… There are times where I’m not thinking as clearly as I should, and in those unclear moments, I always think to myself, ‘Fire the first shot.’ Bring it on. Because I know who’s on our side. They can only win a rhetorical and propaganda war. They cannot win. We outnumber them in this country, and we have the guns… I’m not kidding. They talk a mean game, but they will not cross that line because they know what they’re dealing with.

Then he claimed that some senior military officials have personally assured him that they’ll join the right wing in a civil war.

"Although it is not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservatives." - John Stuart Mill

Maybe it's time for us liberals to put aside our non-violence, pacifism, and general dislike and fear of firearms, and arm ourselves in self defense.

In fact, maybe it's time to get back to '60's militancy, take to the streets in large numbers, and DEMAND the changes that will bring about our vision

Calling them "unblanced" does a disservice to the unbalanced.

The guy is a fascist, as is Wulf, and rappy. They don't believe in freedom for everyone, just freedom for themselves and their beloved corporations. Quite frankly, Breitbartz deserves to be jailed for a terrorist statement, and if not jailed, set upon by the 80% of the population that is NOT them.

Left-wing and liberal toleration should only go so far. People really do need to fight for freedom.

I like his rationale - If they beat us with words and ideas - shoot 'em!

MAYBE, hell.

There is nothing wrong with I call a "muscular defense". The Tea Party is a wildly disliked splinter of the GOP which has.. thanks to Rupert Murdoch, the Koch Bros, and Obama's limp agenda ... gained unwarranted political influence relative to their numbers and popularity.

They don't respond to reason, logic, or facts. You are not about to talk sense into most of them. They are bullies, proto-fascists and fascists and the only thing they respond to is FEAR. So, let them fear liberals in the arena they believe is theirs. BTW- I personally know a lot of liberals who own guns and know how to use them.

He seems to have broken the Weiner sexting scandal, and caused the Shirley Sherrod firing at the USDA.

The rhetoric on the left is often just as harsh but examples of those influenced to action by these nuts are just those mentally ill in the first place. I personally find Sygnym's proposal to jail 20% of the US population more disturbing than anything this idiot says. We definitely don't have enough prison space maybe you should consider a more final solution.

And ya oughtta watch that " final solution " talk. You know, and I know, who and what you're implying.
And, remember it was YOUR idea, not ours; and as a reason for it: " not enough prison space" is a pretty slim rationale for genocide.

Hello,

My goodness. Rather than see universal condemnation of some pretty deplorable positions and statements, this has oddly metamorphed into a phallus-measuring competition.

Escalation is not the answer to this kind of behavior, nor is mirroring the bad behavior of the other.

Hello,

No, that's what's wrong with politics. Well, it's at least one thing that's wrong with politics. Bad behavior is excused because the other guy is doing it. The current political rhetoric is no worse than at other times in American history. Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton and Samuel Adams would have no problem taking part in the current fray. Harsh rhetoric is preferable to bullets flying and probably shocks people into realizing the depth of feeling on the other side about certain subjects resulting in compromise by the side with less conviction on the matter at hand.

Oh Geezer

You failed to post the entire quote. It starts "We are ready to march."

Anything about guns? Nope. Shooting? Nope. Killing? Nope. Revolution? Nope. ANYTHING indicating he is inciting people to do anything other than - well - march? Nope.

Now, why would you leave out those damning words "We are ready to march"?

Just wondering. It's a mystery to me why you would not include those few words. Perhaps you can solve it for us.

How about you fill in the blank, Wulf. If you need a hint, I'm pretty sure their beef had something to do with not having a VOTE.

Words are very powerful things, clearly Signe is so affected she is quite riled. What this charactor said is over the top and potentially problematic, but he said it and will reap the consequences for saying it, people will view him as too extreme, will stop being interested in what he's saying etc. He's probably kicking himself now for lettin his mouth talk and not seeing to it proper. I would never talk like that, and neither would anyone else who wants to gain power in a country where most people don't roll that way, don't want to kill and get into a civil war, because who would want that really?

I'll accept this as your roundabout way of admitting that the right wing lost the debate of ideas, and that is the reason why you and Breitbart are so mad you're getting jumpy to start shooting.

Hello,

No, that's what's wrong with politics. Well, it's at least one thing that's wrong with politics. Bad behavior is excused because the other guy is doing it.

Not my point.

Folks on both sides say stupid things.

What's wrong with politics is that if one Republican or one Democrat says something stupid, the other side tars every Democrat or Republican with the same brush.

You know, and I know, that the Breitbart quote and the "sons-of-bitches" quote are from folks who are really out on the fringes of political thought in the U.S., but the folks who are fanaticaly invested in one ideology or another are so hot to lambaste the other side that they'll leap to the conclusion that all of the opposition feel that way.

I mean, you only have to look at the few folks who hang out in RWED to see this happening. They see the other side, Democrat or Republican, as irredeemably evil, and therefore can find no ground at all to compromise or agree.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I feel that this is why when somebody on 'your side' does something wrong, it is important to say so. This demonstrates good judgment, and also indicates to the world that any 'side' in politics is not a vast monolith. That there are intelligent, human people and not just the braying donkeys.

But when we defend 'our side' by saying 'you do it too, and worse' or when we enter a contest of escalation in bad behavior, we contribute to the very polarization you indicate.

I do indeed see the Us/Them being created, with each side regarding the other as an icon of evil. This happens not only in terms of Republican/Democrat, but also in discussions about the economy that are divorced from party positions.

Yeah, right Geezer. Which is why you deliberately misquoted Hoffa. We AAAALLlllll believe you.

Don't you for a second think he doesn't mean it. Don't you think for a second he and his ilk can be shamed or reasoned with. Even if they don't get out their guns except in masturbatory fantasy, they can and will do everything in their power to make their side win, including vote tampering and voter suppression.

The only thing he regrets is being exposed.

The "us" and "them" already exists, Tony. When CEOs and inter/national bankers and militaries and jihadists look on the rest of humanity as so much fodder for their engines, they already created the "us" and "them". The fodder is finally noticing ... and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

And, oh yeah.... thanks for misquoting Hoffa. Geezer. Nice to know you can always be counted on for slimy dishonesty and comic relief!

Strange that when I google that quote, it comes up as a prefect match on many media sites. How do you consider it was mis-quoted?

I agree. That's why I posted the Hoffa quote, because when it was discussed in an earlier thread, the folks who want to jail Brietbart for his 'incitement to violence' generally fell all over themselves to excuse Hoffa's retoric as just 'retoric'.

And again, I don't defend Brietbart. He's just another blowhard. But if the folks here want to take his ravings as inciting violence, they should also want to check on the ravings from their side for the same thing.

Except that Hoffa was talking VOTES (that is the part YOU left out) and Breibart was talking guns.

Bit of a difference there, geezer, which I know you will do your best to obfuscate and convince everyone that it's the same thing. But it's not. Just think of how you would feel if I were to threaten to jaw you into submission, as opposed to shooting you. Feels a bit different, one from the other, doesn't it?

So? Calling your political opponents 'sons of bitches' is inflamatory enough.

Both statements were stupid and inflamatory, and both reflect the position of only a small portion of either side's total following.

You want to tar all the Republicans with Breitbart's brush, and the Tea Party wants to tar the Democrats with Hoffa's. You and they are both spewing hate and trying to make sure there's no common ground for folks to talk on.
