Because the Republican presidential primary has been too stodgy and dignified lately–what with all the sex-harassment eruptions, memory-lapse gaffes and “SexyBack” parodies—Donald Trump will host a GOP debate in Iowa on Dec. 27, announced conservative news outlet Newsmax. The New York Times has the details:
Quote:

Mr. Trump’s role in the debate, which will be broadcast on the cable network Ion Television, is sure to be one of the more memorable moments in a primary season that has already delivered its fair share of circus-like spectacle…. Newsmax sent candidates the invitation on Friday afternoon. It began, “We are pleased to cordially invite you to “The Newsmax Ion Television 2012 Presidential Debate,” moderated by a truly great American, Mr. Donald J. Trump.” Spokesmen for several candidates did not immediately respond to questions from The New York Times about whether they would accept.
How can they not? Sure, if they accept, they run the risk of having America see them begging for the approval of a reality-TV host and birth-certificate-conspiracy pusher. But if they refuse, they run the risk of having the Republican base see them spurning the approval of their favorite reality-TV host and birth-certificate-conspiracy pusher. A visit to Trump has already become something of a ritual pilgrimage for GOP hopefuls; the Newsmax debate basically dares them to take the courting public. (Update: Jon Huntsman, who made a point of not going to visit Trump earlier in the campaign, refused the invite with the response, “LOL.”) http://entertainment.time.com/2011/12/02/celebrity-apprentice-donald-t

again the adult in the room, Huntsman, treated it as it deserved to be treated: "Lol. We look forward to watching Mitt and Newt suck-up to The Donald with a big bowl of popcorn," he said in an email to Business Insider. I continue to have my opinion of Mr. Huntsman go up and up; good thing the Republicans don't see him for the more sensible, adult candidate than all the others. He could be a force to be reckoned with, but as long as they're cow towing to the fringe extreme, he hasn't a chance (thank goodness!).

As if this year's nomination wasn't silly enough...tho' it might be the most entertaining debate thus far, admittedly.

The Donald. Given he's so proud of himself for "forcing" Obama to reveal his birth certificate, there is obviously no limit to what he believes he's capable of.

I still think Huntsman is experimenting now and really going to seriously run in 2016. Seems like a reasonable plan, forward thinking etc., work out some of the kinks in running, see what its like etc. and then totally go for it.

I hear the pundits bemoaning that so few of the candidates are willing to "offend" The Donald by not attending. What have we come to???

Well, let's see...

Huntsman isn't going. Good for him.
Ron Paul isn't going. Ditto.
Mittens is making noises about skipping it.
Bachmann is as well.
Cain's gone.

Who's left? Isn't this going to end up just being The Donald and Newt sitting together in a circle-jerk, with Rick Perry cheerleading (when he can remember to, anyway)?

Donald wants Obama to offer him a billion dollar contract in exchange for the Donald running on a Reform ticket in 2012, guaranteeing an Obama victory.

Yup, as of today, it's down to Newt and "Google" Santorum.

Should be a lively debate. Trump and Newt trading their "family values" secrets about how to make as many as 1 in 3 marriages actually last, while Santorum tries in vain to not further embarrass himself.

Now The Donald is out. He withdrew from his own debate. Or, as DailyKos called it, "Circus called off for lack of clowns".

But not before deciding it would be a "chat" instead between him and Newt (Santorum? "Oh, he'll be there too.")

Good. It's over; now maybe we can put THAT to rest and focus on other things...things that don't turn my stomach every time I see that comb-over asshole on the screen!
