Y'all DO realize he's not even original, having stolen his schtick chapter and verse initially from Morton Downey Jr, who did a MUCH better job of it than this cack-handed blowhard ever did cause he didn't pretend to be any more 'serious' than Colbert....

Of course, some lows even Downey wouldn't stoop to, and for that we had Howard Stern.

You'd have really liked him, Jack.
Some of his stuff's still floatin around the ole Youtube if yer interested.

Perhaps if nearly everybody else on the radio/TV/Newspaper dole weren't Liberals, this fat/old/white extremist wouldn't be the most popular radio show in the world.

Well, ya got it 1/2 right, at least. The main stream media is undeniably dominated by the Left. Problem is, the views being portrayed are routinely presented as 'unbiased' and 'neutral', when they are anything but.

Rush is a bit heavy, but after having lost 90 lbs, he's far less fat than say... Michael Moore. ( but then, who isn't ?) NJ Gov Christi might come close. Maybe.

Old ? Now that's just funny. White ? Yeah, I guess he is, so what ? Extremist ? Not even remotely. His popularity is because he's so main stream, actually.

Quote:

Just sayin' that a reality where Liberalism wins out in 90% of every situation these days, when at the very lest 50% of this country is Conservative....

Situations like these ? Not even sure what you're talking about. And where are you getting these %'s ?

Quote:

Personally, I view Rush's viewership very akin to the people who frequented speakeasy's in the Prohibition days.

Were these people breaking the law?

Yes.

So many things wrong w/ this statement, where to begin ? Rush DID have a t.v. show, for a few years, in the mid 90's. But for the most part, he has no 'viewership', unless you mean his live video feed for subscribers to his web site. But that is perfectly legal ( for now, at least ). Rush does a radio show, 3 hrs a day, 5 days a week. He's been doing this for 20+ years. He'll likely be doing it for another 20+ years, if he wants. Or there still is a country left for him to broadcast.

Hello,

Over a decade ago, I bought this man's book. It seemed, at the time, that he might have something interesting to say.

If that was ever true, it seems that time has past.

Now I feel he is just a vile thug, hardly worth the spittle he spends.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Rush is not just offensive, he is stupid--or pretending to be. The idea, as mentioned once, that women need "so much" birth control because they're having so much sex is just plain ignorant. Birth control pills are a prescribed medicine; you take one a day, whether you EVER have sex or not. The analogy is asinine.

Magons, don't even TRY to understand our health care system. Trust me; it's been a bone of contention for years and years, while the cost of health care skyrockets, a huge percentage of the population has none, and we ALL pay for that percentage because they eventually have to go to the emergency room for treatment. People have lost their homes because of gigantic medical bills, and still our government does nothing. Obama did "something"; it's not good, but it immediately made him further anathema to the right and they've been going after his health care ever since.

You see, the right wants health care to stay private--they hate the health care our veterans get, they hate Medicare, Medicaid--literally anything the government provides as a safety net for the public to keep them healthy. It's been a long-term goal of theirs to get rid of Medicare/Medicaid along with Social Security, for all the usual reasons. Just don't bother your head trying to figure it out; it's not worth it!

The idiocy of not providing birth control because "others" pay for it with THEIR health care payments is also asinine. Just the simple realization that health care pays for many things one group of people might need but others do not could go on forever. If the insurance company pays for giving birth, then they'd end up pay for the birth of a lot of unintended pregnancies, were birth control unavailable. I'm sure there are numerous medical treatments which could be considered "choice" which are covered for various groups of people which other people don't utilize, for one thing. For another, as the college student testified, birth control isn't covered even when it's a MEDICAL NECESSITY for something having nothing whatsoever to do with sex.

When it comes to talk radio being some kind of goliath, that's also absurd. Talk radio is FAMOUS for being the home base of conservative hosts: Radio talk show hosts (who describe themselves as either conservative or libertarian) have also had success as nationally syndicated hosts, including Hugh Hewitt, Sean Hannity, Jon Arthur, Glenn Beck, Michael Medved, Laura Ingraham, Neal Boortz, Michael Savage, Bill O'Reilly, and Mark Levin. There are plenty of them out there. Historically, as far as I've been able to find, TV was the bastion of liberalism, talk radio the bastion of conservatism. Limbaugh is no helpless little David in a Goliath world, by far! The power he weilds alone is illustrative of that.

Anthony:
Quote:

Never forget what this man is. You keep forgiving him his trespasses and speak to him as though he is a reasonable human being. You keep forgetting the things he's advocated. If you respond to this man again, you are being foolish.
Welcome to my world. But that enough others would realize this and join us that we could ignore him and move on. I'm not holding my breath.

It's beyond absurd that you think Rush is a lunatic OR dangerous. He's neither.

Yes, the GOP are , to some degree, anti Democrat. Not nearly enough, for my liking, but I do what I can.

What's truly dangerous is YOUR view that folks need approval to think a certain way. Sounds to me as if you'd police what people think, and punish them for thinking out of line.

Update: Yup, he definitely seems to be having trouble with advertisers. Sleep Train was the first to bail, good on them, and others are following. Sleep Train (advertised their Sleep Number bed on Rush) tweeted:
Quote:

We don't condone negative comments directed toward any group. In response, we are currently pulling our ads from Rush with Rush Limbaugh.
They've been with him for 25 years, since his early days.

eHarmony had this to say:
Quote:

We’ve never paid for ads on Limbaugh show. We’re looking into the matter of “network buys” & will let you know what we discover.
Quicken Loans has jumped on board:
Quote:

Due to continued inflammatory comments– along w/valuable feedback from clients & team members– QL has suspended ads on Rush Limbaugh program
Sleep Number:
Quote:

Recent comments by Rush Limbaugh do not align w/our values, so we made decision to immediately suspend all advertising on that program.
The Cleveland Cavaliers:
Quote:

The Cleveland Cavaliers have decided to suspend any and all on-air advertising with the Rush Limbaugh radio program, citing "inflammatory comments" coupled with valuable feedback from both clients and team employees.
AutoZone claims
Quote:

AutoZone said the company had never advertised with Limbaugh and was working with its media buyers to find out if any ads did air. "If a commercial ran, it was in error," he said. "We're running it down."
Oreck Vacuum cleaners says:
Quote:

We do not advertise on Rush nor any other radio show; however, apparently a year or so ago we did some radio ads which may have aired on Rush as part of a broad media placement (we are looking into that);
They say some local retailers which carry Oreck products may have advertised.

Citrix pulled out, too:
Quote:

Over the past day, we’ve heard from many great Citrix customers about our advertising on The Rush Limbaugh Show. These customers have expressed their growing concern that some of his recent comments seem inconsistent with the core values Citrix has always stood for – humility, integrity and respect. While Citrix obviously does not control any show’s content or endorse opinions of their hosts, we do take the concerns of our customers seriously. When they are upset about something, we listen. After careful consideration, we have decided to discontinue our advertising on The Rush Limbaugh Show.

So we've got SleepTrain, Domino's, Legal Zoom, Citrix (GoToMyPC and GoToMeeting), Sleep Number, Quicken Loans, eHarmony, Cleveland Cavaliers, Oreck

As it progresses, let's see what, Carbonite, Mid-West Life, Mission Pharmacal (Citrical), Century 21, LifeQuotes and others do down the line...

Wooops, searching further, found these:

Re: Carbonite--they have blogged on their site:
Quote:

The nature of talk radio is that from time to time listeners are offended by a host and ask that we pull our advertising.... Carbonite does not endorse the opinions of the shows or their hosts.....However, the outcry over Limbaugh is the worst we’ve ever seen. I have scheduled a face-to-face meeting next week with Limbaugh during which I will impress upon him that his comments were offensive to many of our customers and employees alike.
We'll see. Interesting that in several cases they ad "and employees"...so it's not just the public.

From LifeQuotes:
Quote:

"We have not advertised on Rush Limbaugh's radio program in over five years," Life Quotes spokeswoman Michelle Matlock said via email.

Century 21 tweets
Quote:

In response to multiple consumer inquiries - @CENTURY21 is not a sponsor of the Rush Limbaugh radio program. Not sure where this started.
There is quite an active movement on the internet to get the remaining sponsors to pull their ads.

That pretty much leaves Mid-West Life and Mission Pharmacal (and any others not yet identified...I THINK these are the only ones). He's gotta be hurting. All hail the power of consumerism!

They'll be back, and if not them, then someone will take their place.

No biggie.

Rush was right, of course, on the bigger issue of free giveaways for contraception. This isn't an issue of availability. Contraception is a product, just like anything else. No one should be bound to pay for a convenience , other than those who directly use it. It sure as hell isn't a "right". This isn't a case of men being able to walk up and purchase a product, but then women are denied, and shown the door.

And was Rush also wrong ?

It seems, yeah. He attributed statements made by the activist, Ms Fluke, to be entirely of her own, when she was relaying stories of OTHER women.

He kinda got the story wrong, and then ran w/ it, making a trivial side matter THE story, and for that, he should face the music.

He stepped in it, so he'll take the arrows. Of course, much of the fuss is being jumped on by Obama and the Left, but hell, when have they ever missed a chance to demagogue an issue ?

It's who they are. It's what they do, after all.

Rush is a big boy. He'll be fine. Provided he learns from this.

Okay, I gotta give Raptor just a FEW points for this one. He at least was realistic in the middle, tho' the start and end are predictable. Yes, he either got the story wrong by accident or, much more likely found the article because it gave him backup to run with it. It's his job. Yes, he made the contraception THE story, but he's just following up what the Repubs, candidates and others, have been harping on for a couple of years now. It's his job. "He should face the music" and "he stepped in it" are rational, reasonable statements (!). But of course he had to get that jab in, whith "much of the fuss is being jumped on by Obama and the Left, but hell, when have they ever missed a chance to demagogue an issue?", given that's true by BOTH sides, fairly equally. We've seen at least as many times the Repubs have done the same, and of course, the following is equal Raptor-speak.

I doubt Rush will learn from it. I say again: IT'S HIS JOB to be obnoxious and cause a fuss.

But you do get points for being willing to agree he was in the wrong, tho' not that his methods were reprehensible in picking on a mere citizen and calling her what he did.

All while some mental midgets continue to ignore the real issue, and perpetuate the mindless, hysterical and childish array of name calling and foot stomping.

*yawn*

Credit the Dems for phonying up this entire issue, from the very start. Ms Fluke was a last minute 'witness' by the Dems. They pulled a switch-a-roo, by first submitting an actual expert witness, ( a man, btw ) but then , late in the day, tried to take back his invitation and instead offer up Ms Fluke to the Congressional hearing. Only problem, was, ( and the Dems completely knew this ) was that her name , her credentials, weren't vetted. There was no time, per House rules, for her to speak. So what ? So Pelosi then went on this phony, disingenuous rant about the GOP not allowing any WOMEN to testify on a hearing about contraception, invited her to speak anyways, and made a complete spectacle of the whole case.

Does it dismiss Rush for his comments? Nope. But it goes to show just how depraved and dishonest the Left are, and how this woman's activist was used, albeit willingly , as a phony martyr for the EVILS of not getting free contraception.

So let's run this down: You accuse "the Left" of "phonying up" a controversy, accuse them of being "depraved and dishonest", and then claim it's all about "free contraception"?

You just phonied that up. You and Rush are utterly depraved and dishonest - you admitted as much when you said that he falsely attributed things to her which were not attributable to her, and you claimed to fully support him anyway. Plus, this was never about *FREE* contraception - it's about getting contraception covered by your health care, WHICH YOU ARE PAYING FOR.

Please explain to me how something can be free when I am in fact paying for it. If you can stop being dishonest for a few seconds, that is.

Why? Why should the insurance company be forced to give away something for free ? Who in the HELL made Obama lord and dictator, so that he could declare how a private company must run its business ? Did tax payers bail out Aetna ? Like happened with GM ? Oh, no, that's not happened... YET.

Today Obama declares free x. Tomorrow it'll be free x and y. A few years down the road, it'll be free x and y from insurance companies ( assuming they're still ALLOWED to be in business ) , and someone else will mandate that some other company " offer " free z.

This is about as extra constitutional as it gets, folks.

Pretty soon, we'll all have a 'right' to have the entire gorram alphabet 'given' to us, for free. As we have traded away each and every one of our inalienable rights to the Imperial Federal Govt.

Mal was right.

Oh, and also... " with out hassles " ? Really Barry ? Man. Now Barry is going to mandate that life be with out hassles.

And so the word was spoken, and let it ring out across all the lands! We shall have no more hassles! So let it be written! So let it be done !

They're not being forced to give away something for free; they've being forced to cover something that they cover for other people they insure: prescription drugs.

Now if the insurance companies want to stop covering ALL prescription drugs, that's another conversation.

And if the drug companies want to make the pill, Plan B, the morning-after pill, and all such treatments NON-prescription, over-the-counter and widely available to all, then that's another conversation we can have.

If they're offering pregnancy coverage, they should be offering "NON-pregnancy coverage", especially since that's so much cheaper in the first place.

You're having another one of those "senior moments", like when you claimed that 95% of American don't pay any taxes. You're not putting up the whole speech, or even that whole part of it, and you're taking parts out of context (something you allegedly HATE when you think it's being done to you, BTW). The president is saying that, FOR PAYING CUSTOMERS OF THE INSURANCE COMPANIES, they are going to be required to expand coverage to include women's contraception.

And you keep posting the same thing over and over and over, and it doesn't get any more true the more often you post it. THE INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE NOT BEING REQUIRED TO GIVE FREE HEALTH CARE TO PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT THEIR PAYING CUSTOMERS.

They just aren't. That's where you're being dishonest, either willfully and intentionally, or just because you're naive and actually don't know better.

So which part of this can't you wrap your head around?

Quote:

If a woman’s employer is a charity or a hospital that has a religious objection to providing contraceptive services as part of their health plan, the insurance company--not the hospital, not the charity--will be required to reach out and offer the woman contraceptive care free of charge, without co-pays and without hassles.

Let me repeat: These employers will not have to pay for, or provide, contraceptive services. But women who work at these institutions will have access to free contraceptive services, just like other women, and they'll no longer have to pay hundreds of dollars a year that could go towards paying the rent or buying groceries.

You go to McDonald's. Order a value meal. Comes w/ Med fries ( I'm guessing, who the hell cares. Just play along.) You want large fries. For free. And you want a hot fudge sundae too. Just because. You're already paying for the value meal, right ? And they already sell fries, sundaes, and the like... so you tell them to fork it over. Because you're a paying customer. And what the hell.. a few extra fries ? This company makes billions of dollars...what , they can't part w/ a few measly fries ? Gotta cost them next to nothing. They'll never miss it.

You don't have a RIGHT to free fries. You don't have a RIGHT to free contraception.

And the federal govt sure as hell doesn't have the RIGHT to force McDonald's to give you free stuff. If Micky D's chooses to ? Fine. That's THEIR choice. Just as it's YOUR choice to go there, in the first place.

Actually it's more like:

Kiki: You go to McDonald's and place your order. But you're a woman, so they say they'll take your money, but you don't have any right to expect anything in return. And then they'll give you half a chewed burger and tell you to be happy with that, while they give a male customer a filet mignon with lobster tail for the same price.

The weird thing is that the insurance companies are FOR this compromise. It saves them money. And being businesses, that's a good thing. Unlike little Rappy who's got a severe case of mission creep (it's about religious freedom ... it's about the Dems ... it's about Maher being just like Limpball ... it's about contraception ... it's about profits ...) they really are watching their bottom line ... and calling this good. You would think that if little Rappy is pro-business, he'd be all for it too.

Also, I have to add - it's amazing to watch little Rappy spin himself into knots trying to justify his hatreds.

In fact, as I think about it, his hatreds are probably the basis for his identity, just like a KKKer would feel that his identity was based on his superiority as a white male.

Did you place odds on Don Imus when he called that women's basketball team "nappy headed ho's". He's still on the air and I believe taking a shot at a non-political entity was far more egregious.

Nope, the joke is, (which isn't precisely true) that I only lay odds when I know something which hasn't come public yet, but in this case it's a matter of money which makes the leap fairly obvious.

And while such actions didn't bag those you mentioned, they did do for Howard Stern and The Greaseman, so there's a ratio - but the key to understanding the financial balance here is to realize JUST HOW SMALL comparitive to americans in general, the paying audience of the ole bloviator really is since a large chunk of em are too poor for advertisers to bother with, and that kind of nuttery is restricted to what amounts to an extremely, extremely "vocal" but essential tiny fragment of the political spectrum.

Who, to make a personal observation, are generally stone cold hypocrites unwilling to put their money where their mouth is, thus resulting in a financial sinkhole, sponsors jumping ship, and stations dropping the show - and once in freefall like that, well, even the rats know when it's time to abandon ship, usually before the humans do.
*watching the critters scurry*

Short memories indeed, but also the very nature of his busines thrives on controversy, and in this case it's become a razor edged boomerang, and those who control the purse strings are betting on duck instead of catch, you'll see.

Not that me and mine ain't, yanno, helpin it along down the garden path...
I'd say otherwise, but I'd be lyin.

Another post from Rappy that really tells us more than he'd probably be comfortable with. When confronted on his many hatreds, he doesn't even bother with the usual charade of claiming he has no hatred - no, he just goes right to insisting that it's all "absolutely justified." His hatred of Muslims, of women, of blacks, and more... he finds it all to be "justified".

Hello,

Boycotts are part of the free market. Specifically, the 'demand' part of the equation. But I can understand this man's desire not to be bitten by the same dog. He's stepped over the line himself more than once, and risks the same kind of fallout.

Too often when public figures fall prey to their own ill-chosen words, they clamor for free speech, and use words that suggest they are being unfairly persecuted or silenced. They forget it is just free speech coming back to feast on them, in countless free opinions of countless free peoples.

'Intimidation' by sponsor pullout? As though sponsors aren't in the game precisely to secure a positive public opinion. Why shouldn't they react when potential customers raise a clamor? Better to learn from this than complain about it. Every public figure should take this as a lesson to learn. You can't always count on 'I'm sorry' ending a matter. It's up to the audience to forgive you, and some words will stain you past apology.

Many of his disciples must love him still. For others, he's the one they love to hate; they may tune in.
Are his ratings now up or down?

If people want to hear whatever he'll say next, that is market value.
