"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

But I can understand this man's desire not to be bitten by the same dog. He's stepped over the line himself more than once, and risks the same kind of fallout.

Quote: Too often when public figures fall prey to their own ill-chosen words, they clamor for free speech, and use words that suggest they are being unfairly persecuted or silenced. They forget it is just free speech coming back to feast on them, in countless free opinions of countless free peoples. 'Intimidation' by sponsor pullout? As though sponsors aren't in the game precisely to secure a positive public opinion. Why shouldn't they react when potential customers raise a clamor? Better to learn from this than complain about it. Every public figure should take this as a lesson to learn. You can't always count on 'I'm sorry' ending a matter. It's up to the audience to forgive you, and some words will stain you past apology.

It seemed, at the time, that he might have something interesting to say. If that was ever true, it seems that time has past. Now I feel he is just a vile thug, hardly worth the spittle he spends. --Anthony _______________________________________________ "In every war, the state enacts a tax of freedom upon the citizenry. I love only that which they defend. " Hello, The term applies? I fear you are implying, as he was, that any woman who might desire birth control is a slut. Which is as terrible a view towards women as I can imagine. It reminds me of mention that condoms are freely available by conservative groups. Which further implies that if a man controls reproduction (by wearing a condom) it is acceptable. But if a woman controls reproduction, or shows a desire to do so, she is to be maligned. Not for the first time, Mr. Raptor, you have tested the bounds of my civility. --Anthony _______________________________________________ "In every war, the state enacts a tax of freedom upon the citizenry. Quote:...second-quarter revenue from 10 stations owned by Cumulus Media (Nasdaq: CMLS) declined due to the boycott, CEO Jim Dickey said. Indeed, Dickey said in a conference call, lower sales at three of his 10 flagship talk radio stations cost $5.5 million. Moreover, the Cumulus CEO anticipated the drag on business to continue for at least six months and as long as a year. Virtually all of Limbaugh's technology advertisers have stopped sponsoring him except for private LifeLock Inc. Lately, more advertisers including Sam's Club, part of No. 1 retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT), said it will withdraw from Limbaugh's show, along with eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) and local advertisers on some of his flagship stations such as WABC in New York. http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/374036/20120815/rush-limbaugh-boycott-romney-ryan-cumulus-premiere.htm] When I first noted Sears' withdrawal, some snarked "who cares about Sears"? Wellll, Wal-Mart and eBay are just a teeeny bit bigger, and losing $5.5 million is nothing to sneeze at.Quote:Lew Dickey, the CEO of Cumulus, was speaking to financial analysts about his companies' results. The boycott had "hit us pretty hard." It's the first time any sort of monetary figure has been given about the impact of the boycott. Cumulus is also a relatively small player where Limbaugh is concerned, airing his show on just 38 stations around the country. Dickey's comments could mean that companies that have a bigger stake in Limbaugh's show were hit harder. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/09/rush-limbaugh-cumulus-ad-boycott-millions_n_1502390.html Rush will probably always be around. There are far too many rabid right wingers out there who desperately need someone to spew their hate for them. But at least he's costing them money, which is nice...

Or whatever 5 to 3 odds on a dollar works out to. It's been 6 months since my post and Rush Limbaugh is still on the air. Which adequately proves my point about the attention span of the American public. Just browsing through the old posts to find this one was an eye opener on all of the "cause celeb" that has come and gone in 6 months. Kwindbago, hot air and angry electrons

And not being a weasel like most of our so-called-conservative posters here, I stand to it, hell I am even good for it if you want the five bucks so bad (twas basically $5 vs $3) that you're willing to figure an anonymous way to exchange it. I tend to make some pretty good bank on the side elsewhere via political bets, but then when so many of the issues or races are fixed and you occasionally have inside information that ain't too hard. Nobody has 100% accuracy, but I tend to beat the curve by a damn wide margin, usually. For mine own, I wonder if some part of that whole mess involved Rotten Limbergers handlers loading him up on Oxy and locking him in a closet somewhere so as to keep his flapping trap from sinking him deeper while they did damage control. It's still costing sponsors however, cause some folk tend to bear a grudge. -F
