I agree, the Democrats continue their war on mothers by fostering a poor economy that forces women (and some men) to work when they might otherwise choose to stay at home to raise their kids.

Just another example of Democrats taking away a woman's right to choose. Its one thing to choose career over family, its another to be forced to take a job or several jobs to make ends meet because President Obama is making things so much worse for everyone.

H

Meh, I don't live under Obama's rule and the same thing happens here. Try to think outside the polemic box.

He is incapable.

If we had a Republican President, he'd be arguing that high unemployment is helping women by giving them more time stay at home with the kids (and be "real" women), and that Dems were engaging in a war on women by expecting them to work.

Its what zealots and ideologues do.

"Goram it kid, let's frak this thing and go home! Engage!"

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Aside from the idiocy of calling Rosen's remarks "extremist" and "hate-filled" (I mean...SERIOUSLY?!?!), in a nutshell:
Quote:

The strangest, and most disheartening thing about the Twitter firestorm that erupted this week after Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen pointedly questioned Ann Romney’s fitness to serve as her husband’s ambassador on women’s economic issues was the speed with which her own party rushed to denounce her. Noting to CNN’s Anderson Cooper that Romney — a daughter of privilege who became wealthier still while married to Mitt — had “never worked a day in her life,” Rosen voiced the suggestion that she was, perhaps, less than ideally suited for relaying the financial worries and stresses of most American women to her husband’s presidential campaign. “She’s never really dealt with the kinds of economic issues that a majority of the women in this country are facing, in terms of how do we feed our kids, how do we send them to school, and why do we worry about their future,” Rosen said.

Republicans counterattacked, as to be expected. But Democratic Rosen-bashing was every bit as vigorous.

Democratic strategist David Axelrod called Rosen’s words “inappropriate and offensive.”

Obama campaign manager Jim Messina tweeted: “She should apologize.”

Deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter added on: “Families must be off-limits on campaigns,” she said, “and I personally believe stay-at-home moms work harder than most of us do.” With even the Obamas eventually weighing in, Rosen, by the end of the day, had no choice but to apologize.

Why did Democrats feel such an urgent need to distance themselves from a comment that was 1) accurate — Romney doesn’t exactly have much in common with the 75% of women who now work for a living — and 2) frankly inoffensive? (I happen to agree with the Washington Post‘s Ruth Marcus that Rosen’s only real fault, in the Anderson Cooper exchange, lay in forgetting to use the politically correct phrase “work outside the home” instead of the politically toxic word work to describe the remunerative activity Romney didn’t have to engage in.)
.....

The Democrats owe an apology to Hilary Rosen. She made a sloppy semantic error but issued no actual slap in the face to Ann Romney or the small percentage of privileged women who can truly, realistically, identify with her. All the rest is just a distraction. http://ideas.time.com/2012/04/13/hillary-rosen-was-right-ann-romney-is
-out-of-touc/
feelings exactly, and the Dems throwing Rosen under the bus is disgusting.

By the way:
Quote:

working and stay-at-home mothers report nearly equal levels of overall happiness. Pew finds that:

•36% of working moms say they are “very happy”; 49% report being “pretty happy”
•36% of stay-at-home moms say they are “very happy”; 44% report being pretty happy

Ann Romney says we should “respect choices women make.” Who can argue with that? Well, maybe women who don’t have as many choices, like whether to work outside the home or not.

One such group was highlighted by Pew as not fitting the happiness trend line—single mothers. Just 27% reported being “very happy,” and 43% said they were “pretty happy.”

Single working mothers trying to get by in a bad economy. Whose talking about them this campaign season? http://ideas.time.com/2012/04/13/hillary-rosen-was-right-ann-romney-is
-out-of-touc
/

That many mothers in today's world haven't got the CHOICE that Ann Romney has is the valid point, not who "works" more. THEY'RE the ones that should be talked about, not those well off enough to choose or how valid a job stay-at-home moms have. Their job is perfectly valid, of COURSE, and Rosen misspoke by not mentioning them in her remarks, but this whole thing is about as silly as any of the other silliness this election year.

From the Dubya files, 2005:

Quote:

Last Friday when promoting social security reform with 'regular' citizens in Omaha, Nebraska, President Bush walked into an awkward unscripted moment in which he stated that carrying three jobs at a time is 'uniquely American.'

While talking with audience participants, the president met Mary Mornin, a woman in her late fifties who told the president she was a divorced mother of three, including a 'mentally challenged' son.

The President comforted Mornin on the security of social security stating that 'the promises made will be kept by the government.'...

Begin transcript:

MS. MORNIN: That's good, because I work three jobs and I feel like I contribute.

THE PRESIDENT: You work three jobs?

MS. MORNIN: Three jobs, yes.

THE PRESIDENT: Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that.

Michele Bachmann in 2008:

Quote:

I am so proud to be from the state of Minnesota. We’re the workingest state in the country, and the reason why we are, we have more people that are working longer hours, we have people that are working two jobs.

She's PROUD of having forced women to work two jobs and longer hours!

Here's 10 other GOP attacks on women that Rappy will insist never happened:

Quote:

1) Republicans not only want to reduce women's access to abortion care, they're actually trying to redefine rape. After a major backlash, they promised to stop. But they haven't yet. Shocker.

2) A state legislator in Georgia wants to change the legal term for victims of rape, stalking, and domestic violence to "accuser." But victims of other less gendered crimes, like burglary, would remain "victims."

3) In South Dakota, Republicans proposed a bill that could make it legal to murder a doctor who provides abortion care. (Yep, for real.)

4) Republicans want to cut nearly a billion dollars of food and other aid to low-income pregnant women, mothers, babies, and kids.

5) In Congress, Republicans have a bill that would let hospitals allow a woman to die rather than perform an abortion necessary to save her life.

6) Maryland Republicans ended all county money for a low-income kids' preschool program. Why? No need, they said. Women should really be home with the kids, not out working.
7) And at the federal level, Republicans want to cut that same program, Head Start, by $1 billion. That means over 200,000 kids could lose their spots in preschool.

8) Two-thirds of the elderly poor are women, and Republicans are taking aim at them too. A spending bill would cut funding for employment services, meals, and housing for senior citizens.

9) Congress just voted for a Republican amendment to cut all federal funding from Planned Parenthood health centers, one of the most trusted providers of basic health care and family planning in our country.

10) And if that wasn't enough, Republicans are pushing to eliminate all funds for the only federal family planning program. (For humans. But Republican Dan Burton has a bill to provide contraception for wild horses. You can't make this stuff up).

Meanwhile, Wisconsin has voted to do away with equal-pay provisions for women, and Mitt Romney refuses to say whether or not he supports the Lily Ledbetter Equal Pay Act.

Meanwhile, I don't recall Romney's wife saying a goddam thing when the right called women on birth control "sluts".

Funny to hear her talk about how she supports women in whatever they choose (so long as they don't choose abortion, of course!)

Hilary "B" Rosen's 25 actual visits to White House since '09.

By John Romano

(YBH) – Today at a daily press briefing, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney would not confirm whether, and how many times, newly controversial CNN contributor Hilary B. Rosen has visited the White House during the Obama administrations tenure. Ms. Rosen entered the national spotlight yesterday when she stated that presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s wife Ann “never worked a day in her life”. Ms. Romney was a stay at home mom who raised five children.

When asked about news reports that Ms. Rosen visited the White House at least 36 times, Mr. Carney replied that he personally knew three people named Hilary Rosen and wasn’t sure if or how many times the Ms. Rosen in question visited the White House.

The Facts: Assuming that each of the visits to the White House where a middle initial was not recorded were not Hilary B. Rosen, but a different person, an implausibility on face value to begin with, Hilary B. Rosen has visited the White House 25 times since the President was inaugurated in 2009. Among the people she is logged as visiting are the President himself and other senior administration officials like David Axlerod and Valerie Jarrett. Each visit typically lasted one to two hours onsite.

Ms. Rosen is a Democratic party activist and the former political director for The Huffington Post. The White House and various Democratic insiders sought to distance themselves from Ms. Rosen’s comments today including First Lady Michelle Obama who tweeted in defense of Ms. Romney.

http://yesbuthowever.com/hilary-b-rosens-6001987-white-house-visits/

The spin from the Dems is dizzying. WH Press mouth Jay Carney says he knows 3 Hilary Rosens. But how
many of those have ever visited the White House, hmmmm ?

Mr. Obama - " I think this was an ill-advised statement by somebody on television ".

EXCUSE ME ? " SOMEBODY "?? Really Barry ? Can't utter her name now, huh? Hilary. She's been to the White House more times than your VP, the SecDef AND your Energy Secretary - COMBINED!

" I think the war on women IS real. - Joe Biden

"Let's put the faux "war against stay at home moms" to rest once and for all...
Let's declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance. "

So, Dems... which is it ? Real or phony ?

Rappy you also have to realize that unlike the GOP members who all take their marching orders from the top the Dems often do not agree with each other, as we can think independently.

That being said, the GOP's war on women is very much real. They don't even try to hid it.

You don't realize much. I get that. But to claim the President didn't know Hilary Rosen, by name, is laughable.

But seriously, where does this mythical GOP " top " reside ? From where these so called 'marching orders' are sent. Care to point that out for us ?

The war on women is a 100% fabricated lie, from the Left, to distract the public from Obama's horrific performance in office.

The GOP's war on women is very real, and if you actually KNEW any women and asked them about it, they would tell you so. (And are telling you so HERE, except you refuse to listen.)

Most real women (as opposed to the fantasy that you have in your head) are working moms, and many real women are SINGLE working moms who are poor. To you, that's a class somewhere between vermin and cockroach.

So, let's see if I got this:

If I'm married, work, and don't have children, I'm selfish.

If I'm married, work, and have children, I'm a bad mom.

If I don't work, I'm not married, and have children, that makes me vermin.

If I work, not married, have children, I'm a vermin mom.

If I'm not married and without children, I'm an old maid.

If I get pregnant, I can't have an abortion.

If I work, I'm taking jobs away from men.

If I DON'T work, I'm a cockroach.

But I can't have birth control either, because even if I'm married, that makes me a slut.

Yanno, there's just no winning for most women as far as right-wing evangelicals are concerned, because there's really only one place they want a woman to be: barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen. doing for "her man".

YOU may not "get it", but most women do, and you blathering on and on about how it ain't so doesn't change things a whit, just like your constant denial of AGW doesn't change anything. Which makes you once again irrelevant, so don't expect any further response from me. Becasue, really, who the fuck cares what you spout?

Hilary Rosen is a consultant to the DNC chair, Ms Wasserman-Shultz. She's been to the White House 30 + times. I've made my case. You ? Prove Rush, The Heritage Foundation or FOX News are ' the top' of the GOP. All 3 private organizations, none of them under RNC control, at all. If anything, 'places like ' those you listed are some what diverse, which is exactly the defense you tried to offer. Much like Biden and Rose, you can't seem to make up your mind. Which is it ?

Legislative actions, by some in the GOP, in YOUR opinion, constitute some mythical war on women. You saying it doesn't make it so. Even mommy-hating Rosen agrees this war is " phony ".

Remember when Micheal Steele had to apologize to Rush? Or when the GOP was going on a listening tour, until Rush said it should be a teaching tour and that is what it turned into. You can also look up how members of the GOP and other GOP organizations tweet and use talking points produced by the Heritage Foundation.

Now yes those groups have some disagreements, but that is between the groups, not individuals that is the difference.

No it is pretty much fact. Abortion laws, the fight to make it harder to get birth control and other legislation all while making sure men can get their Viagra says as much.

As to Hillary Rosen;s connection to the democratic party:
Quote:

“DNC has paid $120,000 to Rosen’s firm since 2011 for both a “communications consultant” and “media consultant,” tweeted Joe Pounder, the director at the RNC. http://weaselzippers.us/2012/04/13/dnc-chief-wasserman-schultz-hilary-
rosen-has-never-worked-for-dnc-during-my-tenure-reality-dnc-paid-rosen-120k-since-2011-as-a-media-consultant/
a right-wing site, by the way, so you should love it. So Hillary Rosen has NEVER worked for the DNC or Obama or whatever; her firm was hired as consultants on MEDIA.
Quote:

"Hillary Rosen is absolutely not a paid adviser to the DNC or to the Obama campaign, absolutely not," Patrick Gaspard, executive director of the Democratic National Committee said. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/04/12/ann-romney-tweets-retort-on-never
-worked-charge/
FauxNews, so you should REALLY love that one. Rosen is not an advisor, her FIRM was paid as MEDIA CONSULTANT. You can parse it all you like, but the fact remains that there is a chasm of difference between an ADVISOR and an independent firm paid to consult on media. She makes no policy, she does not ADVISE; her firm's entire connection is as media consultants, nothing more. She wasn't speaking for the democrats, and despite all the hype that she's a "democratic strategist", the fact remains that she is a CONSULTANT on media matters. Not a stragetist, not an advisor. If anyone doesn't know the difference between the two, they should go back to school.

If the DNC were to say they'd never hired her at all, that would be a lie. For others to say they hired her as an ADVISOR or strategist would also be lie, tho' it's all over the internet. Here's where I should say something about Republicans always being liars, etc., etc., like Raptor/Wulf/Geezer/etc. would, but the truth is all politicans lie, both parties lie, so it's no surprise. But those are the FACTS. She's not an advisor or strategist on policy matters, merely a consultant on media.

Not to interrupt your squabbling...

The fact that Hilary Rosen was completely right has been lost here, because the words she said were poorly chosen, and ambiguous. She made it sound as though she thought Ann Romney had 'had it easy', when she was merely making the point that she had never had the financial worries that most women have (and thus is just as out of touch as her husband).

Still she was right to apologise, as criticising a mother by saying she 'hasn't worked a day in her life' is always going to cause offence. It was an innocent gaffe - let the Right score points off it, and let the rest of us move on to more important things.

She diddn't apologize. She gave the standard ' non-apology' apology, saying she was sorry IF she her words offended anyone. Lame. And it was far from an 'innocent gaff'. Biden, he's one to toss out a gaff ( on a daily routine ) , but not Rosen. She doubled and tripled down on her 'gaff', before backtracking.

Not lame, applicable. She wasn't saying that Ann Romney was lazy, or that mothers have it easy (she is one) - it's just her poor choice of words made people like you MISINTERPRET what she was saying.

Her criticism of Ann Romney was a valid one. She was born into privelege, and then married into more privelege; she's not well placed to advise her husband on the concerns of the average woman.

When Ann Romney describes herself as a "stay-at-home mom", I have to wonder which of her five homes she's referring to. And it's not like she was doing all that much "work" raising her kids. Sure, her Downton Abbey-sized staff did a ton of work raising her kids, but how much did Ann actually do?

Does she really spend her day going to the grocery store in her "couple of Cadillacs", taking clothes to the dry cleaners, doing laundry, and scrubbing the toilets before attending PTA meetings and public-school bake sales?

"Mitt Romney: Mothers Should Be Required To Work Outside Home Or Lose Benefits"

Yup. Mittens doesn't consider staying at home and raising the kids "work", says it has no dignity.

Quote:

"I wanted to increase the work requirement," said Romney. "I said, for instance, that even if you have a child 2 years of age, you need to go to work. And people said, 'Well that's heartless.' And I said, 'No, no, I'm willing to spend more giving day care to allow those parents to go back to work. It'll cost the state more providing that daycare, but I want the individuals to have the dignity of work.'"

So why does Mittens think his wife doesn't have any dignity?
