"Part of it is they are trying to reignite this controversy, right? I mean, they also have out this new Super PAC ad out about basically: Is Ann Romney under attack for being a mother? To me, it's still kind of amazing that they're still milking this thing. You know?" Newsweek and Daily Beast columnist Michelle Goldberg said on MSNBC.

"It can't only be me that kind of initially saw Ann Romney as maybe a sympathetic or neutral figure but who is increasingly seeing her as someone who is kind of insufferable because of the way she's milking this thing," Newsweek and Daily Beast columnist Michelle Goldberg said about Ann Romney writing a column about raising her children.

Goldberg found Ann Romney's glowing praise of motherhood in a column she wrote for USA Today to be "kind of creepy." During an appearance on MSNBC's weekend program "Up with Chris Hayes," Goldberg said the phrase "the crown of motherhood," which Ann Romney used in her column, reminded her of "authoritarian societies" that give out awards for large families.

"In a lot ways, the column was totally anodyne, right? She's, you know, yes, motherhood is beautiful. I found that phrase, 'the crown of motherhood' really kind of creepy. Not just because of it's somewhat -- you know, it's kind of really authoritarian societies that give out like a Cross of Motherhood. They give out awards for big families," Goldberg said on the program's panel.

"You know, Stalin did it, Hitler did it," she said

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/05/14/newsweek_columnist_l
ikens_insufferable_ann_romney_to_hitler_stalin.html

So, Ann Romney, who suffers from MS and has battled breast cancer, is " milking this thing"( curious use of that phrase, in light of the breast feeding cover by TIME ) , on being a mother and raising her kids.

She's on par w/ Stalin and Hitler, because she described one of the many hats a woman wears, that of being a mom, is a (GASP!) crown!

OMFG!!!

How DARE she utter such an " authoritarian " view point. And on MOTHERS DAY, of all things!

Ps 1 who could find fault with what Mrs Romney said?
2 After mocking Ann for commenting on working women, because she's only a house wife, Ann speaks out on what she does know, and the left still finds a way to associate her w Hitler & Stalin.
3 Goldberg gets it totally wrong. No one " hands out " motherhood crowns. They are what every mother wears, along with other hats. She ( intentionally ) misses Ann's point.

OMG! Someone insinuated that she thinks she's the Queen of Motherhood because she says she wears a crown! My goodness, next they'll be saying that Obama is some kind of god!

Why does the right think Ann Romney is queen? I didn't vote for her!

And Obama wasn't called some some sort of A god, but GOD.

One day, maybe, you'll get your facts straight.

My gawd, what an INSANE post/thread! Are you completely losing it or something Raptor?!

ONE person says something--I can't even figure out what she IS saying, she's all over the place, and that makes the entire "left" responsible for...what exactly?

You left out the last phrase, which IS valid:
Quote:

"The other part of it is that it plays into this thing of what we, you know. We have this kind of compact in the United States, where what we deny women in social support, or status or kind of economic security, we make up for in, in sort of insipid condescending praise," Goldberg concluded.
That's exactly what the right does, and wants to do more of: deny women social support, status or economic security by cutting programs more and more and more, while lauding Ann Romney to the skies PURELY because one person's comment left out three little words; Ann Romney never worked OUTSIDE THE HOME. That's a war on women? You guys hae REALLY lost it--at least the GOP is doing it to try and counter the REAL war on women and try to turn the tables, but to be so stupid as to take it seriously, defend it, and then find some remark by some woman to claim the LEFT is waging a war on...what? Mothers? Motherhood? Apple pie?

When was Obama called "god" for gawd's sake? I've never, ever seen that;you really are having mental difficulties, aren't you? Or is your need for attention so totally desperate that you need to put up something TOTALLY SENSELESS in order to get it? I don't know what's going on with you, but this thread is reeeeely weird!

Well, let's take a second to quote Rush:
Quote:

So, Ms. Fluke and the rest of you feminazis, here's the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it, and I'll tell you what it is. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.
I believe he was talking in the plural, yes?

And again, ONE person's remark from how far back, and we're all calling Obama "God"? Wow. Aside from that, I never heard the context; now that I have, I believe what was said was "some kind of god", yes? It's a stupid statement by one person, and you rely on it FAR too heavily for it to have any validity or relevance.

Aside from that, Raptor you really need to take a rest...or a break. Your posts today are so insane, including your comebacks, I can't help wondering what's going on.

I for one would not want to see Sandra Fluke, or ANY femanazi, have sex.

Eww.

But thanks for revisiting the point, and showing that Rush WASN'T attacking all women, as it was falsely claimed.

" If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it"...

The kicker here is, we DON'T want to pay for her contraception, therefore, we DON'T need to see her on video.

You'd best go relax Niki. Really, this is getting to you far too much.

Mmmm, very interesting. I'd never had the context of the "god" quote, so it was good to hear it:
Quote:

Well, we were the good guys in 1984, it hasn't felt that way in recent years. So Obama's had a sort of different task. We're seen too often as the bad guys and he has a very different job from Reagan, was kind of "America", and he talked about it. Obama is, "we are above that now, we're not just parochial, we're not just chauvinistic, we're not just provincial, we stand for something". I mean, in a way, Obama's standing above the country, above the world, he's some sort of god, he's gonna bring all different sides together...
Now it makes sense. Again, HE SAID SOME SORT OF GOD, he didn't say "Obama is God", okay? And he said it in the context of Obama wanting to be more global, bring all sides together rather than being "We're America, we're the most important", etc.

I think the "some sort of god" doesn't fit with what the man was trying to say and is a weird extrapolation, but the rest of it makes sense. We HAVEN'T been the "good guys" for quite some time, throwing our weight around, invading, slaughtering, and that's something Obama was hoping to help fix--which he has, by the way. Bush made us the Enemy of the World: Do as America wants, or we'll invade you..." Obama's brought back a much more reasonable view of us as one nation among many. How that fits with 'some sort of god' I can't imagine, but your reminding us of the statement--pretty much every time you can't come up with something better, I guess--always made me think some idiot had said Obama was God. It's nothing like that, and I'll remember that in future.

Still, you worry me. You've really gone off the deep end today, far more than usual, it's very strange. I hope you're okay; I may disagree with you all the time, but I don't wish you ill.

Want some opinions on that from outside the U.S.? Yahoo answers to "Do you think Obama changed the world's view of the US?"
Quote:

I'm in the UK, and bush definitely made you guys look stupid. We respect the US MUCH more with Obama. It certainly matters how your country's president comes across.
Quote:

Obama's ability to sound more intelligent when he speaks has definitely, in my opinion, helped with how the world views the US
Quote:

Yeah I agree with you. The U.S. relations with Russia and china are better now then when Bush was in office...the U.S. relationship with other world leaders has grown stronger.
Quote:

Yes ... whether or not you agree with President Obama's politics he is intelligent, articulate and diplomatic ... skills which are important in a leader. His predecessor was a crass hillbilly who behaved as if America was still the Wild West ... !
Quote:

He did, in that his election was seen as a needed change in the US. Then of course all the incredibly hateful and unfounded anti-Obama sentiments took a big step back...
One opinion from North of us:
Quote:

Speaking as a Canadian I can say that many other countries cheered when Obama was elected, Canada being just one of them.

People outside of the United States were simply tired of Bush, many being shocked that he had been given a second term. People outside of the United States often saw Bush as a war monger, and he and his government were suspected of wrong doings, even war crimes. Many people saw the war on terror as being a war for oil.

World wide people knew Obama could not fix the economy over night, he could not end the war, or put a stop to racial tensions in the United States, but it was like a burden was lifted when he was elected.

Other nations see President Obama as an intelligent man who will listen and not jump in feet first without testing the waters. They see him as a man who has strong family values and who really wants things to improve for the younger generation. They see him as less of a threat than the Bush family. http://www.helium.com/items/1511720-obama-has-changed-the-way-the-worl
d-thinks-of-the-usa
lastly:
Quote:

Many Americans may never have heard of it, but it is well worth checking out.

An organisation called the Pew Research Center, which is based in Washington DC, is an American think tank that carries out research, and does surveys, on people's attitudes.

Much of this work is carried out in the United States, but one of its major studies is the Pew Global Attitudes Project. This measures a whole number of issues which have an international impact. One of its areas of study is the attitude of people in other countries towards the United States. Its report dated July 23rd, 2009 was headed "Confidence in Obama Lifts U.S. Image Around the World".

You cannot get a clearer indication than that. Analysing the statistics, you can notice how far things have changed between the end of the Bush administration and Obama taking over the Presidency. In Europe, particularly, the change is worth examining. In both France and Germany the favourability rating has risen by a full 30%. Even in the UK, where criticism of the US is never as pointed as on the European continent, the rise was 18%. http://www.helium.com/items/1804679-obama-world-view-us other words, Obama speaks more intelligently and less aggressively than Bush did, and his view of America as one country among many has improved the world's view of us. Now that I better understand where the quote came from, I agree with the commentator--except for the "god" thing, I don't know where he got that from.

But I'll remember in future when you toss that one out again, for the umpteenth time (it HAS gotten pretty old and boring, you know).

Anyone can cherry pick opinions from around the world and come up with positives and negatives about any US President.

In the 80's the Euros were furious w/ Reagan, who turned out to be right, after all their marches and protests.

I'd rather be right and hated than wrong and loved.

Niki - After you've said you're out of here , several times already , I know you're still here, so let me recap this thread for you.

I never called Obama " God ". Nor did I claim anyone else did either. Here's how it played out...

Kwickie -
Quote:

next they'll be saying that Obama is some kind of god!

To which I replied w/ the accurate reference, that Obama was called not some KIND of god, but actual GOD.

( Is that being a little pregnant? SORT of God ? Seems to me that you either are or you aren't. Which is it ? )

Then you waded in with...
Quote:

When was Obama called "god" for gawd's sake? I've never, ever seen that

To which, I replied with the Evan Thomas video.

Followed by YOUR post....
Quote:

And again, ONE person's remark from how far back, and we're all calling Obama "God"?

The issue wasn't how many, or how far back. It was specifically what was said.

To which YOU replied...
Quote:

Now it makes sense. Again, HE SAID SOME SORT OF GOD, he didn't say "Obama is God", okay? And he said it in the context of Obama wanting to be more global, bring all sides together rather than being "We're America, we're the most important", etc.

Evan didn't say ' some SORT of god '. Nor did he say the quote " Obama IS god", not in those exact words. He said Obama ... " is sort of god ". Not god LIKE, but actual GOD. You seem to want to split hairs over if SORT of GOD means GOD or not. I think most reasonable folks would concur that Evan Thomas was putting Obama in the seat of THE God, looking over, and down upon the world. To fuss over the particulars beyond that, is truly a waste of time. And yet, here you are, fussing over exactly that.

Why ?

I challenged you to listen to the video, and not some bogus transcript. Apparently you do, and come back with...

Quote:

Yup, you're right, the guy said "he's sort of god".

That should have ended it, right there. I didn't even ask for an apology, though it's clear I was due one. But instead, you just kept on digging that hole....

In passing, one person made a remark. Changes nothing. Neither he nor anyone else that I'm aware of ever said "Obama is God" or "He is God". End of story. Saying anyone ever said "Obama is God" is a pure and simple lie.

Yes. 1 influential person, and editor of NEWSWEEK magazine, during an on air interview, compared Obama to God. You want to toss out a red herring, with the claim that NO ONE ever has called Obama 'GOD ' ? Really? You want to slice hairs so thin, that's the extent you want to go to before you'll admit defeat ? Or that you were wrong ?

You already admitted that I was right. Why not just end it there, and move on?

I know reality is boring and all but I'd like to point out: "slut" is a derogatory term used almost exclusively to insult a woman. Just as "nigger" is a term used almost exclusively to insult a black person. So, calling one woman a "slut" is indeed insulting women as such, every bit as much as calling one black man a "nigger" is an insult to all black people.

And I hope everyone here noticed that AURaptor used the word "feminazi" without irony.

So you admit there's no such thing as a "war on women" by "the Left" (which is the claim you made in the title of this thread, which makes that claim a lie), a "war on Christmas", a "war on marriage", or any other kind of "war", right?

After all, what LAW did "the Left" pass that negatively affects millions of men, women, dwarves, orangutans, antelope, tree sloths, etc.?

Meanwhile, the GOP nationwide has proposed and voted in favor of literally HUNDREDS of laws that will have a direct negative impact on millions. If it's not war, it will do until the next one comes along, because it has just as many victims.

I, personally, use the word slut to refer to a man or a woman who sleeps with lots o people, especially if they're doing it all at once, so to speak. So it can be used for men as well, honestly I see no difference between men who sleep around and women who do, its our society which still sees a difference, though I still can't figure out why, I see no difference.

I think some people come here for the sole purpose of arguing in squircles, not to acomplish anything in regards to making friends, winning people over, sharing experiences etc.

Just a few other things...

Here's what got Ms Goldberg soooo bent out of shape, as she went on to talk about Mrs Romney, crowns, and then weird references to Hitler and Stalin.

Quote:

Crown of glory

Cherish your mothers. The ones who wiped your tears, who were at every ball game or ballet recital. The ones who believed in you, even when nobody else did, even when maybe you didn't believe in yourself.

Women wear many hats in their lives. Daughter, sister, student, breadwinner. But no matter where we are or what we're doing, one hat that moms never take off is the crown of motherhood.

There is no crown more glorious.

Who here could have any REAL issue with these sentiments ? Seriously, this is a positive message, for all women, and anyone who has ever had a mother.

No one could quarrel or snipe at this view point, save for purely petty, partisan reasons.

Also, what is Mrs Romney talking about ? Motherhood. On the day set aside for Moms. Where's the big deal here ? And wasn't it some on the Left who ridiculed her for talking out of line, when she made comments about women in the work force ?

Why, that rich so-and-so..what does SHE know about having a job ? She's ONLY a stay at home mom, after all, and has never had a REAL job in her life!

O.K. So she's stayed at home, and raised 5 boys. No small task, for anyone, right ? So, when it comes to being a mother, it seems like a safe bet that she's talking about something she knows about, right ? Ooh no! She can't do that! She's being AUTHORITARIAN! Why.. HITLER and STALIN were authoritarians ! She must be a NAZI!

She's nothing of the sort, and , if you READ what was written, it's clear that Ms Goldberg was completely making stuff up , out of thin air. She some how equated Ann's comment of 'crown of glory ' to having to do w/ crosses or some such, merits of distinction, which Hitler and Stalin handed out to good little breeders, who helped raise citizen for the Fatherland, Motherland, which ever.

THAT'S NOT WHAT ANN WAS SAYING!!!!!!!

Women wear many hats in their lives. Daughter, sister, student, breadwinner...one hat that moms never take off is the crown of motherhood

This has zero to do w/ anything GIVEN , by any government, but simply IS , by the mere fact that women are who they are! And the more we understand and acknowledge all that women do, the better we'll appreciate them.

How is any of that remotely negative ?

Speaking out against any of what Mrs Romney said is nothing but a show of sheer desperation, and another sad episode on the Left's war on women.

I agree, and use the term for both sexes. No need to be gender specific with the term.

I think that's pretty much just the result of having a male dominated society. Traditonally, men have felt free to sleep around, but want a virgin to marry - thus making any non-virgin an undesirable. Things have changed, but I think those sentiments are still pretty deeply held.

Slight alteration to your original words made, by me, to clarify the issue.

You're welcome.

Well no thank you, because you totally mistated that argument like you have done many times before.

In the end it does not change anything. Many women think BC should be covered by their insurance policies...which they pay for. Most women who get BC do so because their health insurance does cover it. So Rush was still calling a vast majority who take BC sluts. Possible because he does not know how things work in the world. By his comments it is clear he has no idea how BC works.

Video: Unhinged, bat-wielding Big Labor thug of the day repeatedly whacks Nikki Haley pinata

By Michelle Malkin •

The head of the South Carolina chapter of the AFL-CIO, Donna DeWitt, thought it would be fun to take a baseball bat to GOP Gov. Nikki Haley’s face on a pinata. (H/T Melissa Clouthier.)

No, really.
Just watch it and see how other Big Labor goons shrieked

WISHIMAY

Scanning the news was fun today, one woman fired "for clothing that didn't minimize her boobs" and was ironically working in a lingerie store ironically run by orthodox jews? They told her to tape down her boobs apparently... Two pregnant women were fired from a 911 center and told they could come back to work once they "took care of the problem" (on tape, good for her) and one woman was fired for returning to work after cancer, and another pregnant woman was fired from a casino because her gay manager didn't like "breeders."

Fun, fun...

When I was working at a casino and was pregnant they refused to let me go to the bathroom for up to five hrs at a time and called a manager when I took more than two minutes to go to the bathroom. If I had had a clue in those days I should've peed myself and sued 'em...

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Gawd, Wish, those are AWFUL! So was your situation...what pricks! How on earth can they say there's no war on women when stuff like this goes on? If not a "war", certainly any thinking person would have to agree their RIGHTS were trampled on? It has always been thus, that women are viewed by many as second-class citizens, and that's where they want to take us back to.

I dunno, Mike, I read those and I don't think they're all AGAINST women. Certainly the number of, shall we say "anti-women" bills and laws the past couple of years are unprecedented. But I don't think that chart completely upholds the numbers they profess. JMHO.

Some of them are damned egregious, however, and sicken me.

ETA: Something just caught my eye and made me smile. When you consider the long history of humans, you COULD call it an ongoing, never-ending war on women by MEN, period. Women as chattel, women as property, women married off for profit, women having to hide pregnancy, women's periods being blamed for their emotions, women not being allowed to vote, women not being allowed to own property, women not being allowed to drive, etc., women having difficulty proving they were raped, women being paid less, and some of those still today, with the addition of women being denied contraception (or fired for using it), women's choices about their own bodies taken away from them, women's DOCTORS being forced not to tell them of a pregnancy which might endanger their lives, and on and on and on. It's only relatively recently that the war has been from the right; it's always been an ongoing, never-ending war.

When was there ever an equivalent "war" on men? I mean a real one, where they can't choose what to do with their bodies or who they'll marry, denied the right to vote, own property, drive, etc.?
