He twisted their little legs, until they SNAPPED. OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

Why are we as a society doing sooooo little to stop these monsters, to detect and prevent this from happening so often?

You can't tell me the mother is blameless here, either. She had to know he was a monster.

BYTEMITE

This guy is actually the biological father? There's a word for that kind of behaviour, it's called "Darwin Award."

Because children do not have human rights protection due to their legal status as subhuman property.

The same status that the GOP is currently trying to shove women BACK into, and bet your ass minorities would soon follow.
And of course, the same lame excuses used in those cases are the ones used for not allowing folks under a certain age those rights and protections, and every bit as bullshit now as they were then.

All humans have human rights, in my opinion, no matter what words on paper say - but so long as them words on paper say otherwise, this is gonna be a problem, sure.
Mind you, there's also going too far or exploiting that kind of supervision/protection in a way as bad or worse, like what happened to the FLDS in El Dorado, which amounted to a Baptist-Mormon religious war waged behind a bunch of legalese which eventually fell apart, but not after wrecking a lot of lives and families when merely arresting three jackasses woulda solved the problem handily...

And here's the rub - IF the kids in question had those rights and protections, it would never have come to that in the first damned place, in fact they have so little protection in Texas that the law under which the return of the children was processed was originally intended to cover the return of livestock - but that was the only law which even applied and took some doing to dig up and apply in that fashion.

A whole lot of this Parental Rights vs Government Intervention bullshit can be solved at a single stroke by giving the kids in question a voice, and if they're too young to offer their own, appointing a Guardian Ad Litem to do so for them - I was rather fortunate in my youth in that the Judge presiding over my mothers divorce actually went against precendent and ASKED my opinion regarding custody - I told him what I thought of my father, who then balled his fist threateningly, and I grabbed a nice sharp pen threateningly and the Baliff stepped in and broke it up, which told the Judge prettymuch ALL he needed to know about THAT.

Anyhows, even in states without a Guardian Ad Litem program you can often find a CASA, but the problem with that is that they're civvie volunteers with minimal legal knowledge and no authority and thus often ignored.
Still, it's a friggin START.

I got hauled in and asked who I wanted to live with. After months of manipulation by my mother, who tried her damndest to get me to say I hated him and never wanted anything to do with him (after telling me every dirty thing about him that she could think up) I said I wanted to see both parents and she screamed at me about it for years every time she dropped me off at his house. I would have been better off with him, instead of being left in casino parking lots in the car all day, or living on her boyfriends couch(who hated me), or spending my weekends doing her cleaning jobs AND having a job during the week instead of having friends or activities...
The funny thing is she calls my saint of a grandma a "narcissist."

If I started a War on Babies, it would consist of "Don't Let Horrible People Have Any."
A barnyard hen is a better parent than most of the humans I've known.

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Gawd, Wish, you had it BAD!! Heckofa survivor, you are, congrats!

And once again I'm reminded of the quote from "Parenthood":

You know, Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, to drive a car - hell, you even need a license to catch a fish. But they'll let any butt-reaming asshole be a father.
I can't even read the story, just that one sentence makes me cringe. Whoever did that should...well, should have the same done to THEM!

"One of the saddest things I have found in my internet forum experience is how powerfully the 'win at all cost' mentality has poisoned most discussions, and how few people actually feel that true understanding is the most valuable prize to win. So these 'win at all cost' people refuse the most fundamental method of trying to resolve disputes, and once they do, the dialogues just end up as verbal shoving matches with no real winner." No, the sad thing is I had it AVERAGE. Even with the parts I didn't put down here, I still know several people who had it worse...

There comes a point where there's just no sense cryin' over spilt milk. Still wish they'd hurry up with that empathy gun. Bet my mom'd be immune to the damn thing.

And the article? I'll sum up. triplets. 10 fractures total. average of three a piece. BASTARD.

Beir bua agus beannacht

This is absolutely awful, I'm with Niki's "punishment fit the crime" idea. I didn't respond before because these stories really make me want to cry and toss.

Inspite of the whats and the wherefores between us now Wish, I know you're a good mom and that you are a fighter for children's rights. Your daughter is lucky to have you as her mom.

I assume you're my pal until you let me know otherwise.
