Quote:

Call them "unicorners." A liberal group says it has collected more than 19,000 e-mails requesting Arizona officials to confirm Mitt Romney is not a unicorn.

Without such proof, the group Left Action argues with tongue in cheek, Romney may indeed be a unicorn -- his dark mane hiding a horn -- and therefore ineligible to be on the presidential ballot in November.]

The farcical campaign mimics efforts by "birthers," and some top supporters of certain Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, to continually raise the already-settled issue of whether President Barack Obama meets the Constitution's requirements for citizenship.

"I feel like we've tried logic with the birthers for too long," Left Action founder John Hlinko said Wednesday. "Now it's time to take their arguments to the logical extreme to show how absurd they are."

While steeped in satire, the unicorn-birther matter touches on deeper issues as Obama and Romney head into the November campaign.

Despite conclusive evidence to the contrary, the issue has remained alive, nurtured by the conservative blogosphere and getting raised repeatedly by Republican figures.

Before campaigning with Romney on Tuesday, Trump bristled when told by CNN's Wolf Blitzer that he was beginning to sound "a little ridiculous" for characterizing the question of where Obama was born as a matter of opinion, rather than fact.

"You are, Wolf," Trump fired back. "Let me tell you something, I think you sound ridiculous."

When asked Monday about Trump's raising it, Romney said he believes Obama was born in the United States.

"You know, I don't agree with all the people who support me, and my guess is, they don't all agree with everything I believe in," Romney said. "But I need to get 50.1% or more, and I'm appreciative to have the help of a lot of good people."

It didn't matter that the White House last year released Obama's long-form birth certificate from Hawaii. Trump and others question whether the document is authentic, and Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona's Maricopa County -- known for his tough crackdown on illegal immigrants -- has sent a deputy to Hawaii to check it out.

Bennett, a co-chairman of Romney's Arizona campaign, defended the request for proof from Hawaii, telling Arizona radio station KTAR last week that "I don't see anything wrong with verifying something so that as many Arizonans as possible have confidence that the people that appear on the ballot are entitled to be there."

"If I embarrassed the state, I apologize," he said.

When Hawaii later provided the requested proof, Bennett announced the matter settled and said Obama would be on the ballot in Arizona as long as he filed all the proper paperwork.

Hlinko called the episode "asinine," saying it was the "straw that broke the camel's back" for inspiring him to launch the Romney-unicorn campaign.

He created a website labeled www.MittRomneyisAUnicorn.com and spread the word using his network's Internet connections on Facebook and other sites.

"What about the persistent rumors that Mitt Romney is in fact, a unicorn?" the website says, using italics for emphasis. "There has never been a conclusive DNA test proving that Mitt Romney is not a unicorn. We have never seen him without his hair -- hair that could be covering up a horn."

Lampooning the logic of birthers, the website says: "No, we cannot prove it. But we cannot prove that it is not the case. And if Mitt Romney is or may be a unicorn, he is not constitutionally qualified to be president."

On Wednesday, the website said it had more than 19,000 e-mails supporting an investigation by Bennett into Romney's possible unicorn heritage.

Earlier this month, the Iowa state GOP wrote a passage into its proposed party platform calling on presidential candidates to "show proof of being a natural-born citizen," beginning with the 2012 election.

In addition, Republican Congress members from Florida, Colorado and Missouri have publicly raised questions about Obama's citizenship in recent weeks. http://www.cnn.com/2012/05/30/politics/romney-unicorn/index.html?eref=
rss_politics&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rss%2Fcnn_allpolitics+%28RSS%3A+Politics%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_source=feedburner&iref=obinsite
the birther theories and their stubborn determination to hold their beliefs despite all evidence to the contrary is asinine makes it a perfectly valid target for this "unicorn" thing. Both "arguments" are on about the same footing when it comes to common sense.

Plus the unicorn thing is funnier than the birther bullshit.

1,200 emails were enough to get Bennett to launch an "investigation" of the president's birth, and come out with this statement. So 1,200 messages to him regarding unicorn Romney should be enough for him to launch an investigation on that front as well. www.mittromneyisaunicorn.com only sense spoken by anyone is the following, from RightWingNews:
Quote:

Perhaps it’s time to give up the Birtherism folks, and focus simply on voting Barack H. Obama out of office. No one can provide proof that Obama was, in fact, born outside of the US and is ineligible to be POTUS as a natural born citizen.

As for Romney, he needs to either tell Donald Trump to STFU or GTFO when it comes to Birtherism. The Donald is not helping. So, please, Birthers, stop it. It was fun to “just wonder” why Obama wouldn’t release the BC (versus the Certificate of Live Birth). The time has ended. Move on. If you don’t have rock solid proof, you won’t find it. He was born in Hawaii to an American born mother. That’s all that is needed to be considered a natural born citizen. Find something else to focus on. http://rightwingnews.com/conspiracy-theories/is-mitt-romney-a-unicorn/

Of course, they're not interested in intelligent advice, so it will go unheeded.

The unicorners are exactly as valid in their concerns as the birthers are in theirs. Donald Trump has seen no proof that Mittens is NOT a unicorn, after all, and any proof he may think he's seen could be easily faked; people do that all the time. ;)

So Obama is someone you guys want for President; a guy so cowardly he won't call out the wackiest supporters he's got who go on delusional rants? He knows, of course, that it's a dog whistle to the crazier elements of his base, and what does THAT say about a potential President, too? Why would any serious candidate align himself with these deluded fanatics?

The unicorners are patent idiots, riding whatever wave of attention they can garner; why doesn't Obama say ANYTHING to them? It's not as if the unicorners have or can contribute to his campign. It's pure political shikanery, and we all know it.

Wait a minute. I've read this somewhere before.

You read that in the same place you seemed to indicate it was no big deal.

I've often said that ridicule and mockery are the best weapons against right-wing idiots. It's why I mock them so regularly here and elsewhere. It's also why I think the Romney-is-a-unicorn meme is kind of hilarious. It's silly, of course, and it's ludicrous, but that's really the point: Show how ridiculous Trump and his birthers are by doing something equally silly.

Of course, President Obama isn't flying out to meet with millionaire Unicorners and seeking their approval and endorsement, or bringing their main issue up in his campaign speeches, is he? That would be one key difference between him and Romney in regards to such matters.

I don't get it...what wacky supporters does Obama have? Have I missed something? Sure, he's got the occasional nutcase, everyone does, but who are "all" these whackos he won't call out? They must not be wacky enough to make the news, 'cuz I've missed them.

If you bother listing them, please add what exactly their "wacky" delusional rants/actions/words have been. And watch out, because I can come up with about a dozen-to-one ratio of crazy right-wingers and the things THEY'VE said/done.

You guys are really weird. I can understand not liking a President and being for the other side. But the things you say about him, the things you attribute to him, the pass you give ALL the insane things that are happening on the right, mystify me. I don't like Romney, but he's just a human being and while I think his policies would be horrendous for our country, especially given the current circumstances, I don't think he's any of the things you constantly call Obama. The over-the-top rhetoric, deliberate blindness, absolute unwillingness to ever accept anything bad about the right, and inability to carry on a civil discourse makes me think you reflect the right, which isn't a good thing for the right.

I think there is a vital difference between absurd parody or satire and what the birthers are doing.

Nobody will believe that Romney is a Unicorn, and it was never intended to be believed by anybody.

But many people question Obama's legitimacy and it is intended that they do so.

Not sure who April is, or if this is her first, but thank you for just making my point. Well, there are LOTS of unicorn pictures out there, it's pretty much impossible to run out of unicorn pictures. But in order for the theme to remain funny, each new picture has to have another twist. If I just posted a bunch of unicorns, stretched out the page and dropped a hundred or so internet slowing pictures in here, that might still be funny, but more annoying.

But I doubt she has any more rainbows and unicorns to post, or she'd have posted them by now. ;)

De Lempicka tended to paint with subdued hues and in a rather blocky, nouveau/deco style.

Your uni-corner reminded me of something she might have painted while attempting a nude in a semi-cubist style but with her usual color palette.
