No one?

Everyone is reporting this but they are missing a key point. From the retired Delta operator:

Having spent a good bit of time nursing a GLD (ground Laser Designator) in several garden spots around the world, something from the report jumped out at me.

One of the former SEALs was actively painting the target. That means that Specter WAS ON STATION! Probably an AC130U. A ground laser designator is not a briefing pointer laser. You do not "paint" a target until the weapons system/designator is synched; which means that the AC130 was on station.

Only two places could have called off the attack at that point; the WH situation command (based on POTUS direction) or AFRICOM commander based on information directly from the target area.

If the AC130 never left Sigonella (as Penetta says) that means that the Predator that was filming the whole thing was armed.

If that SEAL was actively "painting" a target; something was on station to engage! And the decision to stand down goes directly to POTUS!
This is far bigger than Watergate.

The second worst feeling in the world has to be the platform crew being desperately asked for help, given a clear target and then having to stand down and watch your fellow Americans die.

The worst has to be the team on the ground knowing that the President just left you to die.

Update: Even with two Predators on station, one unarmed and filming and one armed, the call to stand down comes from the same sources. Earlier today, Bob Owens at PJ Media posts about the responsibility of the order to call off the mission as well as some good info about the AC130s on station.

Update 2: From *Adam Baldwin and many of you, here is an audio interview between Rush Limbaugh and a caller identifying as a retired SF Lieutenant Colonel and Special Operations planner for 15 years.

There absolutely were lies about a video, and it's clear that you're swallowing those lies still.

FOX is the only one asking real questions. I get that it makes you uncomfortable.

I really do.

But my advice to you is.... get use to feeling uncomfortable. There's a LOT more questions coming in the near future.

So why are you suddenly so interested in photos if they're phony, like you claimed the bin Laden situation room one was here

"But who knows. Maybe he was tired from all the phony pics they took, he was taking a break. Essentially this is his 'blinking' pic, where he simply wasn't " on ", as he was in the others"

and here

"This admin released the photo, under false pretense, and then came back to say it wasn't what we all SEE what it looks like. Hillary isn't "gasping " in shock @ a live feed of Osama being hunted down & killed... she's "sneezing "?
100% phony, and you're perfectly fine with this? Really ?"

and here

"It really is self evident, which is why they released the photo in the first place. It staged and completely misrepresented what was actually occurring in that room as the photo was taken"

and here

"The photo was staged , so what does it really matter?"

A - You're dodging the question of where the Benghazi photo is by fabricating another false narrative.

B - weren't we told that Hillary , as she clearly appears to be doing, was not 'gasping' at what she saw,but was really just caught in mid sneeze ?

C - Never before had such photos been released. Now we know they let film makers into the room, to " record " the whole bin Laden thing, why shouldn't we expect the same for Benghazi ?

Follow along and I'll go slowly.

If photos can be so easily staged then what use could they possibly be as proof of anything?

More to your own lack of logic, why hold up a FAKE photo as PROOF that something happened, then demand a photo as proof that something else happened? B/c couldn't that one also be faked?

Now, I'm not going to respond to anything you have to say about this, b/c you need some quiet time to think about where you went wrong.

Or during Katrina?

Just guessing.

Odd that you were never that concerned with a president's whereabouts before.

According to Geezer and others (including you), you've shown no evidence at all that Obama or anyone else is "lying". If they didn't know they were saying anything untrue, they weren't lying. Further, if they BELIEVED what they were saying, then they absolutely could not be lying.

This is the argument several of you have made repeatedly here.

The power of denial is very strong in you.

Curious side note, but I've noticed a pattern here, where in recent months we've seen Democrats deny something, 3 times.

They denied any mention of God™ 3 times, at their convention.

They ( meaning the White House ) denied CIA requests for help, 3 times..., in Benghazi.

Oh, more 'rumors' coming out...

Navy replaces admiral leading Mideast strike group

WASHINGTON -- The Navy said Saturday it is replacing the admiral in command of an aircraft carrier strike group in the Middle East, pending the outcome of an internal investigation into undisclosed allegations of inappropriate judgment.

Rear Adm. Charles M. Gaouette is being sent back to the USS John C. Stennis' home port at Bremerton, Wash., in what the Navy called a temporary reassignment. The Navy said he is not formally relieved of his command of the Stennis strike group but will be replaced by Rear Adm. Troy M. Shoemaker, who will assume command until the investigation is completed.

It is highly unusual for the Navy to replace a carrier strike group commander during its deployment.

The Navy did not reveal details of the allegations, citing only an accusation of "inappropriate leadership judgment" that arose during the strike group's deployment to the Middle East. Rear Adm. John Kirby, the Navy's chief spokesman, declined to discuss the investigation.

TRR: Is a General losing his job over Benghazi?

(Updated 10/29) Is an American General losing his job for trying to save the Americans besieged in Benghazi? This is the latest potential wrinkle in the growing scandal surrounding the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack that left four men dead and President Obama scrambling for a coherent explanation.

On October 18, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta appeared unexpectedly at an otherwise unrelated briefing on “Efforts to Enhance the Financial Health of the Force." News organizations and CSPAN were told beforehand there was no news value to the event and gave it scant coverage. In his brief remarks Mr. Panetta said, "Today I am very pleased to announce that President Obama will nominate General David Rodriguez to succeed General Carter Ham as commander of U.S. Africa Command.” This came as a surprise to many, since General Ham had only been in the position for a year and a half.

The General is a very well regarded officer who made AFRICOM into a true Combatant Command after the ineffective leadership of his predecessor, General William E. "Kip" Ward. Later, word circulated informally that General Ham was scheduled to rotate out in March 2013 anyway, but according to Joint doctrine, "the tour length for combatant commanders and Defense agency directors is three years." Some assumed that he was leaving for unspecified personal reasons.

What about if a U.S. Attorney gets fired or reassigned?

Or a counterterrorism expert?

Would those be proof of a conspiracy?

So are you retracting your earlier claims that the President was in bed during the events?

By golly, if I didn't know better, I'd almost think you're trying to tell us all that we don't know all the facts of the matter, therefore any rush to judgment will be an uninformed one, at best, and that such situations are often fast-moving and very fluid, and various people will see things various ways, and many of them may well be wrong.

Soooo... Because you are unable to adequately explain yourself, you feel the need to call others names for not just blindly falling in line.

Got it.

You keep posting contradictory stuff. Earlier you posted something that said a stand-down order could only come from two places, then went on to say that it could ONLY come from the POTUS.

So forgive me if I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what you're really trying to say, because your own sources seem to be self-contradictory, and no two of their stories seem to line up or add up.

If I didn't know better, I might think you were engaging in some kind of elaborate conspiracy and cover-up, your story is changing so much from one day to the next!

But by all means, don't respond, since (1) you're ignoring me anyway, because I'm not worthy of your estimable response, and (2) all you've been able to do is call names anyway, which hardly seems the path to discussion or communication.

Mid-August cable to State Department from US Mission in Benghazi warned of Al Qaeda presence, consulate’s lack of ability to defend against coordinated attack

The U.S. Mission in Benghazi convened an “emergency meeting” less than a month before the assault that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans, because Al Qaeda had training camps in Benghazi and the consulate could not defend against a “coordinated attack,” according to a classified cable reviewed by Fox News.

Summarizing an Aug. 15 emergency meeting convened by the U.S. Mission in Benghazi, the Aug. 16 cable marked “SECRET” said that the State Department’s senior security officer, also known as the RSO, did not believe the consulate could be protected.
“RSO (Regional Security Officer) expressed concerns with the ability to defend Post in the event of a coordinated attack due to limited manpower, security measures, weapons capabilities, host nation support, and the overall size of the compound,” the cable said.

According to a review of the cable addressed to the Office of the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Emergency Action Committee was also briefed “on the location of approximately ten Islamist militias and AQ training camps within Benghazi … these groups ran the spectrum from Islamist militias, such as the QRF Brigade and Ansar al-Sharia, to ‘Takfirist thugs.’” Each U.S. mission has a so-called Emergency Action Committee that is responsible for security measures and emergency planning.

The details in the cable seemed to foreshadow the deadly Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. compound, which was a coordinated, commando-style assault using direct and indirect fire. Al Qaeda in North Africa and Ansar al-Sharia, both mentioned in the cable, have since been implicated in the consulate attack.

Fox Does Not Have A Benghazi Attack "Smoking Gun"

http://mediamatters.org/blog/2012/11/01/fox-does-not-have-a-benghazi-a
ttack-smoking-gun/191055

"But Fox's narrative is self-debunking. In addition to saying that officials had security concerns, the cable also reportedly said that officials had no information that militants in Benghazi "were targeting Americans."

Thus, the reported cable does nothing to contradict the administration's narrative that an anti-Islam video was a catalyst for the attack. Indeed, the people responsible for the attack reportedly said that they attacked the consulate because of the video.

Also, the report that there were growing security concerns in Benghazi, but no specific threats against the consulate is not news. For instance, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey said in a September 27 briefing that there had been no specific, actionable threat in advance of the Sept. 11 consulate attack:

GEN. MARTIN DEMPSEY: There was a thread of intelligence reporting that groups in the environment in western -- correction -- eastern Libya were seeking to coalesce, but there wasn't anything specific and certainly not a specific threat to the consulate that I'm aware of."

U.S. Consulate in Benghazi Bombed Twice in Run-Up to 9/11 Anniversary

Jihadists twice set off explosives at the consulate prior to the incident that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens, and announced threats on Facebook about escalating attacks on Western targets in the run-up to the 9/11 anniversary, according to whistle blowers reaching out to House Republicans...

the first time a bombing at the U.S. consulate that occurred on April 6, 2012. It says that on that day, two former security guards for the consulate in Benghazi threw homemade improvised explosives over the consulate fence. That incident resulted in no casualties. The Wall Street Journal first reported last month that on June 6 militants detonated an explosive at the perimeter gate of the consulate, blowing a hole through the barrier. The letter to Clinton quotes one source who described the crater as “big enough for forty men to go through.”

JONGSSTRAW

The whole thing reads like a Roman tragedy. Republican Senators in tunics, penning with quills dipped in blackberry oil, their letters to Emperor Obama demanding answers on Libya. Lindsey Grahamius and John McCainius delusionally thinking they have any national standing or gravitas, even though they did use Greta Van Susternius' neck mole to emboss the official imperial Senate seal. Better to simply head off to the vomitarium and roll around in the trough slop with Honey Boo Boobius.

Can't forget the Republican Congressmen and their little pathetic "hearing". Two days? A whole two days...that nobody watched...a month ago! Doesn't matter that much has since been revealed, all with anonymous sources of course. As Wash. Post editor Ben Bradley said to Woodward and Bernstein in 1972...when the hell is someone going to go on the damn record on this?! And where's the so-called Speaker been? Just how much time can one person spend in a tanning salon.

I shall wait for proof of these prior attacks. Even if they turn out to be true it does not supersede the intelligence community having not intelligence about any planned attacks. It points to them being isolated incidence in a volatile country.

What was it Geezer said in defense of Dubya's lack of preparations for 9/11?

Something along the lines of a non-specific threat against a non-specific target using non-specific means, which meant any preparations would have to be targeted at thousands of possible targets?

The U.S. has hundreds of embassies and even more consulates, and thousands - if not tens of thousands - of embassy personnel. There are threats against some of them at almost all times. And there are facebook threats against "western interests" daily.

Do you really think we should send in troops every time a facebook threat is posted? If so, I know a few tea-party pages that will have their doors kicked in this morning.

Meanwhile, the CIA says claims it was told to "stand down" are bunk.

CIA rushed to save diplomats as Libya attack was underway

The CIA rushed security operatives to an American diplomatic compound in Libya within 25 minutes of its coming under attack and played a more central role in the effort to fend off a night-long siege than has been acknowledged publicly, U.S. intelligence officials said Thursday.

The agency mobilized the evacuation effort, took control of an unarmed U.S. military drone to map possible escape routes, dispatched an emergency security team from Tripoli, the capital, and chartered aircraft that ultimately carried surviving American personnel to safety, U.S. officials said.

Quote:

The account given by the senior officials provided the most detailed description to date of the C.I.A.’s role in Benghazi, a covert presence that appears to have been much more significant than publicly disclosed.

Within 25 minutes of being alerted to the attack against the diplomatic mission, half a dozen C.I.A. officers raced there from their base about a mile away, enlisting the help of a handful of Libyan militia fighters as they went. Arriving at the mission about 25 minutes after that, the C.I.A. officers joined State Department security agents in a futile search through heavy smoke and enemy fire for Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens before evacuating the mission’s personnel to the apparent safety of their base, which American officials have called an annex to the mission. Mr. Stevens was one of four Americans killed in the attack.

A four-hour lull in the fighting beginning shortly after midnight seemed to suggest that the worst was over. An unarmed military drone that the C.I.A. took control of to map possible escape routes relayed reassuring images to Tripoli and Washington. But just before dawn, and soon after a C.I.A.-led team of reinforcements, including two military commandos, arrived from Tripoli, a brief but deadly mortar attack surprised the Americans. Two of the C.I.A. security officers who were defending the base from a rooftop were killed.

“The officers on the ground in Benghazi responded to the situation on the night of 11 and 12 September as quickly and as effectively as possible,” one of the senior intelligence officials told reporters.

Thursday’s briefing for reporters was intended to refute reports, including one by Fox News last Friday, that the C.I.A.’s chain of command had blocked the officers on the ground from responding to the mission’s calls for help.

“There were no orders to anybody to stand down in providing support,” the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of continuing investigations by the State Department and the F.B.I.

At a time when the circumstances surrounding the attack on the Benghazi compound have emerged as a major political issue, with Republicans criticizing the Obama administration’s handling of the episode, the senior official also sought to rebut reports that C.I.A. requests for support from the Pentagon that night had gone unheeded.

In fact, the official said, the military diverted a Predator drone from a reconnaissance mission in Darnah, 90 miles away, in time to oversee the mission’s evacuation. The two commandos, based at the embassy in Tripoli, joined the reinforcements. And a military transport plane flew the wounded Americans and Mr. Stevens’s body out of Libya. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/02/world/africa/cia-played-major-defens

Ooops.
Quote:

A slew of new reporting this morning debunks Fox News reports claiming that the Obama administration withheld assistance during the Sept. 11 attack on a U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya. With these revelations, the combined conservative narrative as led by Fox News — that the Obama administration failed to respond adequately during the attack and that mainstream media has not covered Benghazi enough — is in further disarray.

The new reports also contain previously unreported details about the CIA’s role in Benghazi. President Obama and Secretary of Defense Panetta did order U.S. forces into the region, but the CIA was the first to respond to the attack, arriving on the scene in under half an hour.

The lack of security at the outpost in Benghazi, far removed from the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli, has been the subject of inquiry by both Fox News and Congressional Republicans. The Wall Street Journal sheds new light onto why that was the case. The CIA and State Department had entered into a series of secret deals in which the Agency would provide emergency security to the diplomats operating within Libya.

While the State Department primarily relied upon local Libyan militias for day-to-day protection, as well as contracted British private security, the arrangement between it and the CIA explains why the outpost seemed under-protected. The primary role of the CIA was intelligence gathering and covert operations within Benghazi. Agents there operated out of an annex originally reported to be an offshoot of the diplomatic mission, revealed officially — and accidentally — during Issa’s highly politicized hearing into the Benghazi attacks. http://thinkprogress.org/security/2012/11/02/1128831/new-details-discr
edit-fox-news-benghazi/?mobile=nc

How about that detailed timeline?
Quote:

?9:40 p.m.: A senior State Department security officer at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi called the CIA base, at an annex about a mile away, and requested assistance: “The compound is under attack. People are moving through the gates.” CIA officers at the base can hear the alarm, and a team immediately begins gathering weapons and preparing to leave.

?10:04 p.m.: A six-person rescue squad from the agency’s Global Response Staff (GRS) leaves in two vehicles. The team leader is a career CIA officer; the team includes a contractor named Tyrone Woods, who later died. During the previous 24-minute interval, the CIA base chief calls the February 17 Brigade, other militias and the Libyan intelligence service seeking vehicles with .50-caliber machine guns. Nobody responds. The team leader and the base chief agree at 10:04 that they can’t wait any longer, and the squad heads for the consulate.

The senior intelligence official said that he doesn’t know whether Woods or any of the other team members agitated to go sooner but added that he wouldn’t be surprised. “I want them to have a sense of urgency,” he said.

?10:10 p.m.: The rescue team reached a chaotic intersection a few blocks from the consulate. Militias gathered there have several .50-caliber machine guns, which the CIA team tries unsuccessfully to commandeer; three militiamen offer to help. The rescue party now includes 10 people: six GRS officers, a CIA translator and the three Libyan volunteers.

?10:20 p.m.: A reconnaissance party of two GRS officers heads to the consulate; at 10:25, three more GRS officers enter the main gate and begin engaging the attackers. The firefight lasts about 15 minutes.

?10:40 p.m.: Members of the CIA team enter the burning inferno of “Villa C,” where Ambassador Christopher Stevens is believed to be hiding. CIA officers try numerous times to reach the “safe room” but are driven back by the intense smoke and fire. Small-arms fire continues from the Libyan attackers.

?11:11 p.m.: An unarmed military Predator drone arrives over the compound to provide aerial reconnaissance. The drone had been diverted from a mission over Darnah, about 90 minutes away. But without weapons, it can’t help much.

?11:15 p.m.: The CIA team puts a group of State Department officers into a vehicle and sends it to the agency base; at 11:30, the CIA officers depart under fire and reach the annex six minutes later.

?11:56 p.m.: CIA officers at the annex are attacked by a rocket-propelled grenade and small arms. Sporadic attacks continue for about another hour. The attacks stop at 1:01 a.m., and some assume the fight is over.

?1:15 a.m.: CIA reinforcements arrive on a 45-minute flight from Tripoli in a plane they’ve hastily chartered. The Tripoli team includes four GRS security officers, a CIA case officer and two U.S. military personnel on loan to the agency. They don’t leave the Benghazi airport until 4:30 a.m. The delay is caused by negotiations with Libyan authorities over permission to leave the airport; obtaining vehicles; and the need to frame a clear mission plan. The first idea is to go to a Benghazi hospital to recover Stevens, who they rightly suspect is already dead. (Also killed was a State Department communication specialist.) But the hospital is surrounded by the al-Qaeda-linked Ansar al-Sharia militia that mounted the consulate attack.

?5:04 a.m.: The team from Tripoli arrives at the CIA base. Glen Doherty, one of the GRS men from Tripoli, goes to the roof and joins Woods in firing positions.

?5:15 a.m.: A new Libyan assault begins, this time with mortars. Two rounds miss and the next three hit the roof. The rooftop defenders never “laser the mortars,” as has been reported. They don’t know the weapons are in place until the indirect fire begins, nor are the mortars observed by the drone overhead. The defenders have focused their laser sights earlier on several Libyan attackers, as warnings not to fire. At 5:26 the attack is over. Woods and Doherty are dead and two others are wounded.

?6 a.m.: Libyan forces from the military intelligence service finally arrive, now with 50 vehicles. They escort the Americans to the airport. A first group of 18, including two wounded, depart at 7 a.m. A second group of 12, plus the four dead, leave at 10 a.m. for Tripoli and then the long flight back to America.

A detailed CIA timeline of the assault on U.S. facilities in Benghazi paints an anguishing picture of embattled Americans waiting for Libyan security forces who didn’t come and courageous CIA officers who died on a rooftop without the heavy weapons they needed, trying to protect their colleagues below. There’s no evidence that the White House or CIA leadership deliberately delayed or impeded rescue efforts. http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/david-ignatius-cias-benghazi-ti

In an astonishing display of media malpractice, CBS News quietly released proof--two days before the election, far too late to reach the media and the public--that President Barack Obama lied to the public about the Benghazi attack, as well as about his later claim to have called the attack "terrorism" from the beginning.
CBS unveiled additional footage from its 60 Minutes interview with President Obama, conducted on Sep. 12 immediately after Obama had made his statement about the attacks in the Rose Garden, in which Obama quite clearly refuses to call the Benghazi an act of terror when asked a direct question by reporter Steve Kroft:

KROFT: Mr. President, this morning you went out of your way to avoid the use of the word terrorism in connection with the Libya Attack, do you believe that this was a terrorism attack?

OBAMA: Well it’s too early to tell exactly how this came about, what group was involved, but obviously it was an attack on Americans. And we are going to be working with the Libyan government to make sure that we bring these folks to justice, one way or the other.

Obama flatly lied. Period, end of discussion. He specifically refused to refer as Benghazi as a "terrorist attack ". From the very start, he pushed the ' it's about a video ' meme, expecting fully that the MSM would have his back.

Ooops. Looks like someone decided to do some actual journalism, against the wishes of THE ONE.

, he didn't say the word "terrorist"!!! He used the word "terror" right away, but that wasn't sufficient, not using it there must mean he didn't think it was one, just "an attack on Americans"! That's the definitive point, the President didn't say a specific word, he waited to get all the facts before rushing to the most dramatic SINGLE WORD he could come up with. "End of discussion", none of the rest of the facts matter, "I win", (/sarcasm)
Pathetic. Deplorable, feeble, pitiful desperation.

I wonder what our righties would have bitched about if he'd called it a "terrorist attack" specifically and it turned out to be just a mob riot? I'm afraid my imagination isn't good enough, something about how he was trying to overplay it to increase military spending or something? 'Fraid my imagination isn't up to the task, but I have NO doubt it would have been something bad...

But hey, not saying the word "terrorism" is FAR worse than there having BEEN actual terrorist attacks under Dubya, or the Republicans cutting funding to our actual defensive resources after "terrorist" attacks almost every year Dubya was in office, or, or, or...nah, no comparison allowed there. Let's focus completely and entirely on the fact that Obama didn't say the word "terrorist". You betcha!

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.

You've still shown zero evidence that the president "flatly lied". Zero. Zilch. None. Nada. Period. End of discussion.
