It's clear that there is a problem in this country. Time and again we hear about terrorist attacks, mass shootings, serial killers, and so on and all of these things have one thing in common. There is one thing that links these mass death events together and it's time the govt got serious about...people control.

If you look at the stats you'll see that every murder, every unnatural death has a person or persons at its heart. They may use different tools such as guns, drugs, cars, planes, poison, etc, but all are committed by...people.

So let me be the first to call for serious people control. People should be required to have mandatory training in local, community based facilities to teach ethics, morality, community service, and family values. There are many such facilities already in place...mine is a fine old institution called First United Methodist Church.

Second, there should be a seven day waiting period before a person is allowed to exist. So if you intend to have sex you simply apply for the correct license, go through a background check to make sure your not going to abuse the child and turn them into a monster or maybe pass on the crazy gene (also known as the PirateNews Chromosome). Then you wait seven days and provided you pass a sobriety test you may then engage in procreation.

We need to ban certain people. I think we can all agree that certain people are more likely to commit these acts. Someone with a DUI conviction has a 90% chance of getting caught a second time...better to simply lock them away. A devout muslim male could be a terrorist (sure there is no guarrantee, but can we really take the chance?). A violent offender of any kind...no more light of day for you. A socially naive white male or pretty much any minority kid living in Detroit, Cleveland, or Philadelphia is just asking to be locked up, so do it now before people get hurt. There are many such examples, hell even the Amish have been getting violent lately.

Lastly, until we get all the people under control we need to encourage people everywhere to arm themselves with information and the tools they need to protect themselves...from people. For example, many poor and elderly don't own guns, we could set up a program to provide 'Obama Guns' to people in need.

It's only by taking these proactive measures that we can hope to create a society that is 100% safe for everyone.

Silly man. Only the Mexican mafiya and Al Qaeda get Obamaguns. But first you have to chop the heads off a few prosecutors and soldiers.

We cannot allow morality in our schools and govt buildings. The Commie lawyers for Southern Poverty Law Pedophiles and ACLJews said so.

BTW nowhere in the Bible does it say not to kill in self defense.

Moses is a copkiller, before he wrote/delivered the 10 Commandments.

Jesus preached to sell your plow and buy a sword, and beat the hell out of jewish banksters before kicking their ass out of church.

God killed a whole lot of heathens, and, frankly, everybody else.

Didn't Geezer already try this same tack?

Has the thought not occurred to you that if you limit the firepower available to sick psychopaths, their actions might be less devestating?

It's not personal. It's just war.

Timothy McVeigh. 168 killed and 800 injured. Weapon - Fertilizer and fuel oil.

Then again, if you took the time and money required to confiscate every weapon in the U.S., and to enforce total prohibition of importation or manufacture (and we know how well that worked with booze), you could probably fund a lot better treatment for these sick psychopaths (as opposed to the well ones?) without trampling on the right of millions of law-abiding citizens to keep their own property and enjoy their recreation.

But can everyone make a homemade bomb? I don't know how to. If I had the urge to commit a bombing massacre I would have to research it on the internet;which might flag the security services. Then I would be afraid of blowing myself up in preparation of the bomb. Then I would have to deploy the bomb without people seeing me, so I might have to scope out the target and wait for an opportune moment... after which time if I hadn't already been apprehended for all my suspicious behaviour, my urge to commit a bloody massacre might well have passed... Do you see how it's much simpler to just pick up an assault rifle and drive to a public place to conduct mass murder?

If you're still not convinced then consider that the Columbine murderers used homemade bombs as part of their attack. What happened? The bombs didn't go off. So if they hadn't had access to guns the death tally would've been... zero.

I would rather talk about smaller, common sense measures that actually have a chance of happening than total bans. But the (hypothetical) cost to the U.S. of removing all guns, if there was the will for it? Zero. Or to be more accurate, less than zero. Because gun violence already costs the U.S. so many tens of billions of dollars every year. Americans choose to have a gun-saturated society, but they pay for it - in more ways than one.

It's not personal. It's just war.

So the right-wing argument seems to be centering around the idea that if you can't stop all murders, it's useless to think about even trying to stop any of them.

Got it.

Likewise, we can't stop all abortions, so why try to ban them at all? If you outlaw abortion, only outlaws will have abortions!

Why is Jerry Sandusky in jail, exactly? I mean, it's not like pedophiles don't still exist, right? Banning the raping of kids hasn't stopped it from happening. Maybe we should ban religion, since priests seem to be behind so much child rape... Or ban the Boy Scouts, who harbor more perverts than NAMBLA.

And I got a speeding ticket last year, so speed limits are useless, and I'm living proof.

I'm sure terrorists will be glad to know that nobody in the GOP wants to stop them from having access to bombs. Iran just breathed a sigh of relief, too.

You should be familiar with the argument...it's the same reason we don't deport illegal aliens.

You can't take away the guns, it's a nonstarter.

Sure you want to, but it won't pass the House and the Court has ruled on it so it stays. But suppose you could, are you seriously going door to door? You think 20 kids is a lot, what your talking about is civil war.

And let's face it, your outgunned. Whose going to fight it for you? Cops and soldiers will be on both sides.

So if you want solutions the answer is better security, more training, and more state and local mental health resources.

Huh. Someone should probably tell the Obama administration that.

Who said anything about taking everyone's guns?

Restricting sales of high-capacity magazines and semi-auto assault rifles puts them out of reach of most of the general public. Requiring liability insurance for all owners tends to keep them that way.

You have this idiotic notion that someone is coming to your door tomorrow to confiscate your precious little toys. They aren't. We're talking about making it more difficult for you to add to your arsenal or replace them with similar weapons when they get old and wear out.

You expect an overnight solution. I expect a generational one. It took quite a while for full-auto machineguns to get out of the mainstream once they were banned for sale of new-manufacture versions, but when was the last time you bought one at a gun show, or even saw anyone with one owned legally?

You seem to think that there would be a huge uprising against any such measure, but you yourself should realize there really won't be. The American people are, by and large, generally meek and cowardly, especially the gun freaks, and will do as they're told by their masters, because even the veterans among them are trained to take and follow orders. There simply isn't going to be a massive revolution if you go to the gun show and can't buy a 75-round banana clip tomorrow or a 30-rounder the next month. You'll learn to live with a 5- or 10-round magazine, just like you did between 1994 and 2004, and like I did as well. Where was your precious civil war then?

Oh, your proposing things that would have done little or nothing to prevent this mass shooting. Well done, solving the problem by adopting completely unrelated policies aimed at people who did not and would not engage in such criminal action.

150 years ago last weekend was the Battle of Fredrickburg. An army led by someone who did not support slavery or succession crushed an army much larger, better supplied, and with the most modern equipment then available. That Civil War was not sparked by anti slavery legislation. It was the mere possibility of such reforms coupled with people who were highly sensitive on that issue.

Gun owners are the people who would fight you. And they have the guns. Oh, and don't think it would be a two sided war, not once the shooting starts. Then it's everybody into the pool. Racists (of all colors), gangs, separatists, islamists, the beard cuttng Amish, anarchists, those folks who want California to bring back the Aztecs...everybody, not to mention the Republic of Texas (and me, the Northern Ohio Army of Hero).

People are pissed, they don't like what's happening, and they see their guns as a fundamental right.

We don't lock people up in this country over what might happen. If someone owns an assault rifle and they are law abiding citizens we presume they will be responsible, sane, and do what's legal right up until they stop. Then we can go after them.

If liberals make serious headway changing that, might as well go shopping for you "blue suit" cause I've got my butternut ready just the way our founders intended. 2nd Amendment, 2nd only to God and Free Speech. A check and a balance and a little revolution now and then is a good thing.

We had a ban on semi automatics for a while, I was fine with that, I'd be fine with renewing that.

Our society is so lacking in teaching people self control and I think that is the bottom line here. People learn that they can do whatever feels good, whenever it feels good, and I think that is the root of the problem, people lack a reality understanding of cause and affect. Plus the news media gives these people all this face time, they get talked about, speculated about, wondered about all day for days on end after they do things, they leave their mark in a fame crazed world, and that adds appeal to such behavior, even if they won't be alive to see it.
