Yeah, I know, she's been non-news for ages, but this made me smile:

Fox dumps Sarah Palin after three-year misadventure in news

What about the $1 million studio in Alaska Roger Ailes built for her?

Call it another pitiful ending for Sarah Palin. In what looks like a Friday afternoon leak-dump, RealClearPolitics first reported that Fox News had not renewed Palin's contract to be an analyst. That report was based on an unnamed source. Brian Stelter, of the New York Times, later confirmed it on Twitter.

And so ends most of what's left of Palin's fling with fame since 2008, when she was named the GOP vice presidential candidate in a craven act John McCain should never be able to fully live down.

Fox News signed her in January of 2010 to be an analyst, complete with a $1 million studio built in her home in Wasilla.

Her contract ended Dec. 31, 2012, and was not renewed.

I wonder what happens to the studio now. It's a far more interesting question than what happens to Palin, who now ranks somewhere around Kate Gosselin in relevance and public opinion. http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2013-01-25/entertainment/bal-fox-news

I reiminisce on our righties' passionate love of her, predictions of her coming greatness, convictions that she would "save" the country, and repeated claims that Democrats were "terrified" of her. In the end, do you think they'll ever understand that we never took her seriously and made jokes about her because she WAS so obviously a joke?

Looking back, this should come as no surprise. Well, it comes as no surprise, period, to most of us, but then, we are talking about FauxNews. Back before the Republican convention she was, as is her M.O. whining about not getting enough coverage on FauxNews:
Quote:

Sarah Palin has taken to Facebook to complain that Fox News has canceled all of her scheduled interviews during their coverage of the Republican Convention.

Palin took to her Facebook bunker to tell the world what nobody cared enough to notice, “I’m sorry Fox cancelled all my scheduled interviews tonight because I sure wanted to take the opportunity on the air to highlight Senator John McCain’s positive contributions to America, to honor him, and to reflect on what a biased media unfairly put him through four years ago tonight."

Sarah Palin is now officially unwelcome in the Republican Party, and I’ll give you three guesses who got her booted off of Fox News.

Here’s a hint. His name rhymes with Ditt Lomney. When the Romney people made sure that Sarah Palin wasn’t invited to the Republicans’ party, the message was clearly sent that Romney blames Palin for the Republican defeat in 2008. They see the polls. The Romney folks know that she is toxic to the very women and Independent voters that they are unsuccessfully trying to court.

As for Palin herself, as you can see by her Facebook rant, she is still stuck in 2008. Palin can’t stop blaming the “liberal media” for her downfall. She has become a pathetic figure. In four years, she has morphed from candidate for the vice presidency to bitter Facebook troll.

Sarah Palin has sunk so low that she can’t even get airtime from the network that pays her during the Republican Convention.

Skid Row Sarah has truly hit rock bottom. http://www.politicususa.com/fox-news-dumps-sarah-palin-cancels-intervi
ews.html
]
Well, not completely...THEN. But now, pretty much so, as she has no media to give her airtime at all.

In truth, I will miss her...a bit. She wsa good for a laugh now and again, but her strident nature, blatant self-interest and total ignorance made that a double-edged sword.

For a final giggle, here's an amusing take on her leaving:

Fox News Dumps Sarah Palin, Upgrades to a Furby with a Wig on It

Well, Sarah Palin's three-year contract as a contributor at Fox News is finally up, and, strangely enough, they've decided not to re-up. Palin is out. I honestly have no idea why—is it their stringent adherence to journalistic ethics? Their disdain for self-aggrandizing liars? Their reluctance to heap airtime upon lunatic anti-gay bigots? LOLOLOLOLOLOLLLOOOLOLLLOLOLL. No. It certainly cannot be any of those things. So, I guess, they just didn't like that jerk.

If you thought Sarah Palin peaked in 2008, you haven't been paying attention to her in 2012 (not that we blame you). So we're pleased to present an exclusive analysis we're calling The Worst Sarah Palin Moments of 2012 (So Far).

8. Palin calls Time magazine irrelevant for naming President Obama its Person of the Year, when really it's irrelevant for her to still be trying to be in the print media.

7. In response to the mass shooting in Newtown, Palin sums up this horrific tragedy with a Cee Lo song and a crappy joke about the president ( http://www.politico.com/story/2012/12/palin-hits-pols-media-on-newtown
-connecticut-school-shooting-85220.html
]).

6. Palin's son Trog (or something) gets a divorce after 18 months of marriage, and his family-values-having mom has no comment, because… family values.

5. Palin apologizes after telling Republicans not to stop being "wusses" during fiscal cliff discussions. Yet she still hasn't apologized for her crimes against grammar and logic.

4. This terrible pun: "Sarah Palin on Monday said Democrats who 'still have that addiction to the hope-ium' President Barack Obama peddled four years ago need to 'open their eyes' and vote for Mitt Romney this November."

3. Palin mocks President Obama's Christmas card for featuring Bo, instead of baby Jesus coming down from heaven to give the Constitution to Paul Revere or whatever.

2. As the battle for Chick-Fil-A/America's greasy soul rages, Palin jumps into the fray to prove that a) she has no idea how the First Amendment works and b) she still hates the gays ( http://www.indecisionforever.com/blog/2012/08/01/sarah-palin-defends-c
hick-fil-a-still-hazy-on-first-amendment
]).

1. Despite raising hundreds of thousands of dollars through her Super PAC, Palin gives Mitt Romney nothing except a half-hearted endorsement wrapped in a long screed about Barack Obama.

So there you have it, the worst Sarah Palin moments of 2012. And to those of you wondering who cares about Sarah Palin any more, the answer is: not even Sarah Palin.

Oops, appears she can't take the hint:

Sarah Palin vows to fight on without Fox News gig

Sarah Palin has parted ways with Fox News, but says, 'we haven't begun to fight!' even though polls show declining support for the tea party movement. In particular, she promises to 'shake up the GOP machine.'

The “lamestream media,” as Sarah Palin calls it, may have written her off now that the former vice presidential candidate and tea party favorite has lost her principal media voice as a well-paid commentator on Fox News.

But there’s no indication that Ms. Palin will go back to life in Alaska as the former mayor of a small town and then governor for two years, fishing and hunting with her family before Sen. John McCain picked her out of relative political obscurity to be his running mate in 2008.

“I was raised to never retreat and to pick battles wisely, and all in due season,” she said in the one substantial interview she’s given since Real Clear Politics first reported that Palin and Fox had parted ways. “When it comes to defending our republic, we haven’t begun to fight! But we delight in those who underestimate us.”

In her interview with Stephen Bannon on Breitbart.com – the conservative news and opinion website founded by the late Andrew Breitbart – Palin promised to stay in the fight, pointedly targeting establishment Republicans as well as President Obama.

“What happened, quite simply, is that Palin’s star had faded,” Howard Kurtz wrote in Newsweek’s the Daily Beast. “She was no longer the rock star of 2008, her future presidential ambitions the subject of constant speculation.”
Lots more at http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/DC-Decoder/2013/0127/Sarah-Palin-vows-to-
fight-on-without-Fox-News-gig?nav=87-frontpage-entryNineItem

Seems some just can't take the hint. But if she's reduced to Breitbart.com for media coverage, damned few are going to hear her scream.

Sigh...

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.

I note for the record that Palin was offered a new Fox contract at the end of her previous contract but that the two sides could not come to terms.

It is not unusual. If you look at the record Fox, CNN, and MSNBC all have a history of employing former candidates and office holders. In every case they are given a contract and then, like all contracts, the term expires at which point they either get a new contract or they move on.

After 2008 Palin was worth a lot of money and her contract reflected it. Kinda like a Superbowl Quarterback, even in a loss, is going to get a big contract. Its four years later, she's now worth less money...again, its very similar to what happens in sports.

You should consider this...John Kasich retired from politics, had a low rated show on Fox News on the weekends, did not get a new contract, left politics completely...ten years later he's Governor of Ohio.

Going back to sports, in many cases these media contracts are like when unemployed football coaches become NFL commentators. They might be good, they might be bad, but they might also get back into the game after a couple years.

I suspect that Palin is far from gone...in fact I suspect a Senate run may be in her future next time Mark Begich (D) is up...which is hmmm...next year. Wow, what a coincidence.

I note for the record that Kasich set up his run in Ohio with a spring campaign to local Republican Part events...a year ahead of the primary campaign.

Great post! I very much liked Kasich when he was on tv. An intelligent, clear, and thoughtful speaker who didn't mince words; a breath of fresh air from the rest of the pack. As for Palin, you're right. I suspect she'll get back into politics at some point. Besides, Hollywood needs the work.

A funny factoid: On the movie Big Miracle (about stranded whales in Baro Alaska) at the very end they show some old news footage and at the end of it they switch to sports and guess who the local sports reporter is? You guessed it, 1988 Sarah Palin. It made us laugh to see old 80s footage of her, everyone looks funny in the 80s.

Wow, three of them became President, one was a Governor and the first woman to run on the (R) ticket for VP and all are rich with two of them coming from moderate or lower class roots. Not to mention that all of them are in long loving marriages with multiple children. All have raised tons of money for charity and done many good things to support soldiers, disaster victims, and special needs children.

If that is being an idiot, I think maybe you should try it. Really, what the hell have you done with your life?

As for not speaking...who said Palin's stopped speaking? I suspect she'll be just as active as ever. She's a fundraising goldmine and a star attraction on the upcoming off-season Republican lecture circuit.

Fox News dumps Sarah Palin: Did they take Jindal's 'stop being stupid' advice?

For a long time after the McCain-Palin failed bid for president, Fox News was a friendly platform for Palin to go when she wanted to complain about how victimized and misunderstood she was by the media and liberals in general.

However, once Palin was signed to Fox as an “analyst,” it didn’t take long for her lack of “team player” mentality to come out, which was predominately revealed in two books and the award-winning movie based on those books called, “Game Change.”

As previously reported, there was a reason the McCain campaign would not allow Palin to respond unscripted to press questions -- because they quickly realized how woefully unqualified she was for the position of being a heartbeat away from the presidency. During the campaign, Palin often refused to study the most basic essentials in preparation for interviews and attempts at tutoring her were like trying to educate a bowling ball. Palin allegedly did better when she was tasked with memorizing information, like she was preparing to act in a play.

No public word from Palin has emerged so far, not even on her Facebook page, which has been her own freewheeling cyber-podium to express her feelings on any issue. Most notable was last year, when she took to the social media network to complain about Fox’s decision to cancel her appearances at the 2012 Republican National Convention.

PolitucusUSA reported the writing has been on the wall since Palin ignored the advice of Roger Ailes and made the blood libel video after the Gabby Giffords shooting. The last straw seemed to be when she played coy so long about her plans for a 2012 presidential run and after she had milked the attention for as long she could, Palin withdrew her name for consideration. It seemed the reason Fox hired her was so they could cash in on her potential run in 2012, but what the execs at Fox never anticipated was how perfectly inept Sarah Palin was at being Sarah Palin.

Critics of Sarah Palin would say that her star has been on the decline for years and would agree that it is primarily because she has said some incredibly “offensive and bizarre” things, which hasn’t helped the increasingly stubborn, intolerant and abstruse image of the GOP. http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/13893715-fox-news-dumps-sara

Thank God. Now if they could only fire everyone else from that station, and have MSNBC follow suit. I dont watch news to learn of someones biased spin of an event, I watch news to be imformed of the event.

Damned straight, Penguin. I watch CNN and MSNBC to learn OF issues, but not "about" them...once I hear something that interest me, I go to other sources to learn "about" them. Like Christian Science Monitor (which does a pretty good job of staying neutral), Forbes, Scientific American, Fiscal Times, Time, european news from various sources, Bloomberg, and the internet. I don't trust the MSM news, but do check them out sometimes on line. CNN often gives the most comprehensive WRITING about an issue, but is sometimes too biased for my taste, and I look to other sources for more information.

But yeah, if they could get rid of those two, I personally would love it if there were two stations that gave their side of the issue in a reasonable, logical way. Too much to hope for, I realize, but wouldn't it be nice to hear both sides of an issue presented in an intelligent, honest way?
