7-year-old boy, Josh Welch, suspended for shaping his food into a gun

Josh Welch is a seven-year-old-boy who attends Park Elementary School in Brooklyn Park. The Maryland school has a breakfast “snack time” and provided pastries on Friday. Josh was trying to turn his pastry into a shape. Josh chewed his breakfast pastry into the shape of a gun and was suspended for two days.

Josh had his parents called into the school after the teacher took away his half-eaten breakfast pastry. Josh told Fox Baltimore he was trying to shape the pastry into a mountain, but it looked more like a gun. Regardless of the shape the child was trying to make, the pastry was still simply food and could not actually harm anyone.

Fox Baltimore released the following statement:

7-Year-Old Joshua was suspended this morning from Park Elementary School in Brooklyn Park. Joshua says he was eating a pastry during snack time and trying to shape it into a mountain, the teacher said it looked like a gun and took him to the principal's office. Joshua's parents were called, he has been suspended for two days. Joshua's father says it's ridiculous since no one was threatened or harmed by the pastry. A letter will be going home to all students of Park Elementary School this afternoon. School officials declined to comment due to privacy issues.

Josh stated in a short video clip https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151321461754607 that he’s going to consider the suspension almost like a vacation, a few days he gets off from school. Many have begun to ask the question, however, as to whether the seven-year-old boy should have been suspended for such an act. The other students at Park Elementary School were sent home with a letter explaining there was a “disruption in school”. Some are contacting the elementary school to let them know how they feel about Josh's "disruption" by calling them at (410)-222-6593.

GEEZER

Keep the Shiny side up

If it wasn't so sad, it'd be funny.

ETA: Even the folks commenting on the Washington Post article about this were pretty much universal in their distain for the school administration - and pretty funny too.

This young man's violent, criminal behavior should come as no surprise to anyone.

An investigation by child welfare services revealed that his parents leave Krispy Kremes lying around the house with no trigger locks.

Like hate, pastry violence is learned in the home."

I would eat that gun.

Sometimes though... I wonder how much of zero tolerance insanity is just school administrators and teachers abusing what little power they have. Not that it excuses nonsense like this, but it's a terrible job and of course some of them are probably going to hate the kids. And teachers can sometimes contribute to bullying as we've all seen.

Two more bites and it would have been a nuclear detonator. Thank heavens the school was on high alert.

I'm so glad I wasn't eating anything when I read this or I would have ruined my keyboard by spewing all over it as I laughed hysterically.

I was thinking more 'light saber', but yeah... nuclear detonator would be even worse.

Kid looks like a straight up thug. Props to the school for nippin' his gangsta attitude in the bud.

Proper.

Wonder what would have happened to me when I was pulling out my junk in kindergarten in front of the girls in my class. Really, it wasn't my fault. I didn't know why three of the girls who went on to be the most popular in High-School thought it was so cool when I showed it to them at the time and kept asking me to do it again, but all I got for my "bad behavior" back then was my name called out loud and a stern look from my otherwise pleasant teacher......

Geez...

I almost forgot about when me and Ray tried to "overthrow" the "government" in our homeroom class in junior high. Our self-righteous dick of an art teacher who also put on all the school plays that were written by himself was our "teacher" in homeroom.

Actually, I can't say what he was doing was entirely self-righteous, even though he was the designated "leader" of our "government". We learned about taking "minutes" and voting on things, but it was just as boring and self gratifying as nearly every other thing he did.

During one of our "meetings" we moved to overthrow the government, using nothing more than "guns" we fabricated using nothing more than cardboard toilet paper tubes, duct tape and other scraps of cardboard that we pointed at his head.....

OVERRULED!, he said!

We've got the guns, we said.....

They're not real guns, he said....

And so we slunk away, knowing we were beaten this time. Our only joy to be found when we were forced to sit through another one of his awful musical plays before tickets were sold to the adults.....

Today, we'd have probably gone to juvie for that "stunt".....

As big a dick as he was, he never once "reported" us to anyone. I figure the ebarassment we suffered from him not taking any bullshit from a couple of punks was punishment enough for us in his eyes.

Thanks for not being a "C Word" about it, Mr. S....

Your plays sucked and you were largely a horrible teacher of the arts, but you weren't a pussy of a man.

The poor kids today with their Pop-Tart guns and such.....

America the dead....
