Nothing strange there. I always take my George Foreman grill with me when I fly.

Says he was "travelling with it". Was it in his carry-on stuff? Doesn't say that anywhere I see. As you suggest, is it a crime to travel with a cooking implement? Was there anything inside it? Maybe he was profiled? Maybe unjustly?

Seems super weird.

Unless he had a ton of other illegal things with him (chemicals, etc.), the pressure cooker itself doesn't exactly pose a danger, does it?

The passport issue is more complex. If it was really altered, why is anyone focusing on the ridiculous pressure cooker? Shouldn't that passport be the story?

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

I'm guessing rampant paranoia and pressure cookers having been in the news...?

The passport page is more important, obviously, and hell, don't they sell pressure cookers in Ohio??

Based on the conflicting stories and missing pages in his passport, Hussain was arrested and charged with altering a passport and making materially false statements.
...

During followup security screening, customs officers discovered a pressure cooker in his luggage.

So there were pages missing from his passport. He didn't tell the feds a convincing story about why. They found the pressure cooker. He had a couple of differing stories about why he was carrying it. One version-- it was a gift for his relative, who had a cheap one that broke.

ANd he's now being held on a couple of minor league , oughtta-be misdemeanors.

Can't be a terrorist, he's from Saudi Arabia, where Bush41 was the ambassador for a while, and where only 18 of the 19 Sep 11 guys came from.

He should've had a gun instead. The right-whingers would have rushed to his defense.

Remember, if you're a terrorist bent on mayhem, just go to a gun show and buy a gun from an individual, no questions asked, no background checks needed. Buy high-capacity magazines and ammo by the pallet-load, and nobody with think twice. In fact, the Tea Party will ask you to join them and call you a "patriot".

Hell, even al Qaeda and their affiliates are recommending this to their followers.

Just a wild guess, but did it maybe explode?
