This shit gets better and better. Now, after months of scoffing at anyone who had the nerve to question his authority, Christie hires a federal prosecutor of his own to investigate the Bridgegate Scandal.

You can't make this stuff up folks. After 4 months of poo-pooing the notion that something was amiss in the Port Authority, Christie lawyers up. Smart move!? Like I said, he's definitely going to need that sweat suit.

Anyone care to make a small wager?

Name your wager.

This is not just another thread my friend. This is solid gold pearls of wisdom from yours truly.......SGG

To that end, here's my wager:

If Christie is found, in any way, to have any knowledge of Brigegate prior to December 8, 2013 (one day before his marathon press conference) you must address me as King of the RWED for one month.

If, and that's a big if IMHO, Christie comes out clean - I will call you King of the RWED for a month. That's better than money, don't you think?

Does that stand for all who take the wager ? Or just for me ?

And what if I think there's a likelihood he DID know ? Do I have to refer to myself as KING of RWED for a month too ?

ETA - With state and Federal entities looking into the matter, does it not make sound prudent sense to hire legal counsel, regardless ? What if someone Christie fired, with just cause, decides they don't want the negative attention, and tries to put the blame on him instead ? Should Christie just blindly accept that he'll be exonerated, and folks will simply see he's a good guy and being wrongly accused ? Or should he do what ever it takes to defend himself.

That is for anyone who takes the wager, and I know if I win I will call myself King, why not? Sounds good to me........;-)

You raise some good objections and sound reasoning. Let me start off by saying - absolutely it makes sense to hire legal counsel. My critique is in the timing. Had I been on his staff and advising him, I would have advised him to do so from the moment Senator Weinstein began her inquiry back in September.

What he has shown is complete arrogance, because, I'm assuming you must be pretty smart to get to be governor. Christie is no slouch, but I question his judgment and managing acumen. This whole scandal could have been kept to a low roar had he one shred of management sense, but, at the very least, a shred of compassion for his constituents. And I'm assuming he didn't know, but the evidence is overwhelmingly powerful against him. Count it, 8 people close to him knew what was going on, including his self-proclaimed mentor, Port Authority Chairman David Samson.

If the people he's fired decide to fess up, or lie, to get back at him, I would imagine the Special Counsel Schar would scrutinize their testimony/cooperation and compare them to documents and data to assure that their contributions are on the up n' up. No one, that means both sides, is just going to accept anyone's word as gospel, all will be investigated thoroughly. Both are experienced former US Attorneys, that speaks for itself.

Yes, he should defend himself. If nothing else, it will teach him some humility. Well, one can hope.

Really ? Before the November election ? I believe that would have only made matters exponentially worse for him, not better. The national MSM would have jumped all over that, and the story would have carried well into the election. Might have bumped hurricane Sandy as THE election issue. I can't see the wisdom of that tactic.

Perhaps you have a point there, in regards to election strategy, but as far as a stepping stone to the White House, not so much. There was a theory among the "MSM" that Christie was hoping this would blow over, once the new Assembly would take over just a couple of days ago.

It makes sense. Why do I believe it? Because Christie kept blowing off reporters and state senate questions on the matter. All this before the emails came out on Jan. 8th. (I previously said Dec. 8th which was wrong).
He assumed no one would challenge him, even to the point that he expected his choice for Attorney General would go smoothly, amidst the so-called scandal investigation. Again, hubris and arrogance.

On the one hand, he states he didn't want to conduct an exit interview with Bridget Kelly so as not to appear inappropriate, but he suggests that his former chief of staff be accepted for a position that may end up investigating the very office he came from. That smacks of conflict of interest, and apparently the Assembly felt that to be so, they have put that confirmation on hold, indefinitely. I dare say that there may not be movement on that front for several months. It all depends upon the findings by the Special Committee investigating the bridge scandal.

Any way you put it, great fun to watch a bully squirm in his shoes.

"I question his judgment and managing acumen". I agree; maybe I'm naĂ¯ve, but it seems to me that if he'd jumped on it immediately, fired all involved FOR INCOMPETENCE right away and taken it seriously, there might not even have BEEN investigations into the "why". People are so accustomed to incompetence, and if he'd acted like a concerned, responsible Governor, apologized for what happened and decried it to the heavens, it might never have gone any further. Like I said, maybe I'm naĂ¯ve, but I can easily see that scenario playing out.

Retaining counsel is a logical thing to do, with everything swirling around the way it is now...everyone's suspicious, and since we STILL have no answer as to "why", it keeps it alive.

As to the threads about this compared to those about Benghazi, I think our righties have a helluvalot of counting to do before there's any comparison, especially given the fact that Benghazi happened how long ago, and there's two NEW threads about it right now?? My gawd, they harped on virtually nothing ELSE for months and months, and have never stopped talking about it...this just all hit the fan only a week or two ago, and I repeat, it's almost exclusively Shiny and I who've been discussing it...not to mention that it took quite a while for me to think it was anything other than a couple of rogue staffers.

To me, if Christie had nothing to hide, that's exactly what he should have done - called out those responsible and hired special counsel to look into the matter, even if he felt it was a waste of time (since he was innocent).

Hiring an outside special counsel was the way to go, but months ago. Right now it appears that he's on the defensive, plugging holes as he goes. Best move would have been a proactive approach and call for an investigation to, at least, give the appearance that you're willing to shine a light on the whole fiasco. It's equivalent to submitting to a lie detector test in a murder case, when you're innocent.

Just for the fun of it, I took a minute and checked. In JUST the past year, there have been twenty threads with the word "Benghazi" in them (I wasn't about to look harder than that) with 218 posts. Benghazi happened in September of 2012--a year and a half ago (I wasn't about to go back that far to count either), but that gives you just an inkling of how long and how far any "discussion" of the Christie bridge scandal (which is just now unfolding) would have to go on to even come CLOSE; in other words, how ridiculous can you get?

I don't think there is an upper limit on ridiculousness from some.

But yeah, given that there is an equal number of active Benghazi threads as there are about Christie, without even getting into the countless others - it takes a total buffoon to suggest that they are even remotely close to equal - much less claiming that more attention is paid to the bridge issue.

A total buffoon, or a typical right-wing nutjob. Six of one, etc...

It's apples and oranges, but I get your observation, there's no comparison, as you said, because this is just beginning (tip of the iceberg really!).

You see, I didn't want to feed into that old trick, but it was fun checking out your little experiment. Of course it's ludicrous to compare. But you must remember that whenever there's something juicy that some idiot out there spews from his or her mouth, or stupidly does to cause an uproar, the extreme right dusts the cobwebs off the old standard - Bhengazi.

They're comparing a human tragedy to an outright blatant abuse of power. One, an act of omission; the other, an act of commission. One, an oversight and possible incompetence; the other, a carefully planned operation with total disregard for the law, safety and well being of millions of people. All conducted while the plotters laughed and joked deliberately deceiving the taxpayers using public monies for private gain.

Tragic oversight vs. deep-seated corruption

When 9/11 happened, it was a tragic oversight by our government. Thousands died because no one took the information obtained by the FBI seriously. Yet that tragedy has taken it's rightful place in our collective memories, with many questions left unanswered, but it is not nearly brought up as much as Bhengazi has in terms of tragic loss of American lives - all the while assigning blame to a particular group or political persuasion - nor should it be. What's done is done - R.I.P.

That's like comparing the bombing of Pearl Harbor to the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping from a few years back.

I agree with your assessment. It's my contention that he was looking to manage time and downplay the whole sordid affair so as to sweep it under the rug. Even his statement, back in December, where he attempted to shrug off the seriousness of the lane closures, by making a joke that he was placing cones in disguise. He even berated the reporter who posed the question - he did a John McEnroe "you can't be serious!?"

Deflecting bigtime!

Honestly, it's something that happened two years ago, and I don't have the attention span or the emotional capacity to care about something for that long, assuming I am even capable of remembering it. Which you're lucky if I can remember something from the day prior.

So no. I did read a Times news report on the senate report however that said while there was NOT a protest, like the incorrect assertions that the attack was a copy cat protest over the video, this did not mean that the video was a non-factor. It actually did stir up a lot of anti-American sentiment for the lead up and planning stages of the attack.

I conveyed this to you, you went quiet, I'm guessing you decided it wasn't important or relevant or forgot. Which is fine, because it actually isn't really all that important and it also clearly isn't information that would alter your behaviour or opinion in any way.

Hell, it's Sept 11 in a Muslim country. Like there needed to BE a 3 month old video no one saw to stir up anti-American sentiment ? In most parts of the ME, that's a typical Tuesday !

I prolly went quiet because I grew tired of discussing the matter. The point is, more could have been done before, during and after the attack in Benghazi, this admin didn't do a DAMN thing, and THEN tried to peddle a false narrative.

Forget the wager, it's not that important. I wanted to show that I was backing my comments 100%.

What's important here is the issue at hand. Not Bhengazi, not Pearl Harbor, not 9/11, not the price of tea in China or the senate report........we're talking about Bridgegate and the fact that Christie hired legal counsel in response to the Assembly's retaining of a former US Assistant Attorney.

That's it. All this other stuff is merely deflecting.

That is what Obama is hoping for, but hopefully it will not take 10 years. It is kind of his only hope to be remembered as anything other than being the first black president, IMHO.
Has anything really improved or worsened when considered on the whole?
Has there really been much change at all or has it been more of the same?

Well, you could do like she did and check - but that would actually require you to do something, so we know that's not happening.

December 16th to December 10th anti G.O.P. threads started by Niki - 12

December 6th to December 2nd positive Obamacare threads started by Niki - 7

October 29th to October 26th anti G.O.P. threads started by Niki - 8

October 22nd to October 17th Cruz and shutdown threads started by Niki - 10

October 12th to October 7th Cruz and shutdown threads started by Niki - 20

So 20 threads about Benghazi in 1 year is ridiculous but 20 threads about Cruz and the shutdown in 5 days seems completely rational?

O-Care will never be 'fine'. In 10 years, it will have long since collapsed. As it was always intended.

Benghazi is a national tragedy. Traffic jams in NJ ? Please. Disgusting and possibly criminal, but small town ( literally ) antics in comparison.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

My right cheek is reserved for you, my loving little troll. My left will always pine for the bagel fucker.

You do keep trying, Rappy, and you do manage to dig your hooks into the helpless minds. Persistence has some pay off. But just wait. I will remember this exchange in 5 years and I will very much enjoy poking you over it. In 10 years I will place the final nail in your little troll-y coffin.

I guarantee, you won't be up to the challenge.

Someone please put this in a predictions thread.

Embassy deaths during Bush's term = Cost of doing business, and never to be mentioned.

Embassy deaths during Obama's term = National Tragedy.

I actually agree with the second part. Its sad how transparent the righties are about the first, though.

Thats adorable, that the only way you can contribute is to deliberately change what others say so you don't have to deal with the point. You make zit the bagel fucker look like an intellectual, and he's barely smart enough to breath.

Shifting goal posts means I set a new criteria - I didn't you, blithering fuckwit - I mocked your dumb ass, and pointed out a fallacious argument. Sorry you can't grasp such simple distinctions.

Hypocrite has a specific meaning, idiot, and isn't a catch-all comeback for simpletons with a loose grasp on the language, like yourself.

Now, keep living up to your name, the one thing you actually do well - you worthless sack of go-se.

Ah, wingnuts, always mistaking mockery for anger.

Im laughing at you, moron, not "pitching a fit."

And then you come back with "I know you are, but what am I?" as if it legitimizes your stupidity. If you were to use my tactics - you would have to dissect misused words, you know... like I actually did. Instead of changing someone's words... which I didn't do (the threads not even that long, are you so dim you can't even follow along for 2 pages? Nevermind, you've already answered....)

Hilarious. You are actually so fucking dumb that you thought you were using my "tactics." Kid, you have to have a basic grasp of literacy to do that, and you're clearly lacking. Go get your GED and try to form a coherent thought, then maybe you'll be able to pull off a come-back that doesn't make you look even dumber.

Yay everybody, the big nobody accomplished the feat a 5-year-old finds easy! Everyone be real, real proud of him. He worked hard at it. Now, it'll only take a few more decades, and he'll be able to use his words like a big boy, too!
