Don't forget the grenades. Slice those apples.

A love Granny Smith apples. A guess I have to remember to wash them after this.

In the direction of on target, but a little fearmongering. I would say the acrylamides from plastics are an issue, with acidity like tomatoes, sure, just get bottled.

The pesticide heavy things are an issue, particularly from the water that the plant takes in, a fair number of things can be drawn up into the plant. If its too toxic, it might kill or deform the plant. And I'd wash the apples. Avoid hormone milk if you can. Microwave popcorn is not a food.

I often wonder about styrofoam cups. When you pour coffee or any hot liquid in them does that release chemicals like the microwave popcorn.

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

I drink almond milk, not cow milk.

When I eat beef, it's for the flavor, not the nutrients.

Apples? Like I'm gonna PEEL an apple.... ha ha.

Styrofoam melts and flakes off acrylimides, which are plastic analogues of enzymes. Room temp is not a thread, but hot coffee in a plastic cup, imho, is a dumb idea. I suggest, sure, use the stryofoam for insulation, but put it in a paper cup inside of that, or bring a coffee cup.

Rap,

I thought it was a mixed bag. Washing store bought fruit is just a good idea. In general, avoid plastics, non-foods, and esp. things that contain food-substitutes. Measuring what the cow has eaten is pointless. If you were actually that health conscious, you would never eat meat.

[rant]Look for the word fragment "-ated-" which usually means some substitution reaction was done to the food. Hydrogenated vegetable oil, Methoxylated mono and di glycerides. Substituted food stuffs are generally things that your body will digest, but will be unable to use. Its a goo way to put on weight and become unhealthy. I actually think this is the real cause of the weight problem: too many food substitutes, that, and not enough getting off of our asses.

All the nutrient arguments that can be made one way or another is peanuts compared to the threat of food poisoning, even when its non-toxic, just unhealthy. I've had food poisoning several times, including anthrax once. Every negative reaction I've had from food comes from meat. Here's another thing people should think about: Cook the meat properly. "I like it rare" are probably the four of the dumbest words someone can say, but there's something dumber: Let's heat this up now, and eat it later. Well, whatever is infecting your food can have a field day in the meantime.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Thanks for the info.

Plastics and food don't mix. Use glass, stainless, or ceramic.

Here's another: Bottled water.

You don't get acrylamides from styrofoam, you get polystyrene, which isn't good either.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Guess I'm lucky in that I only get dairy and beef products from our local ranches, which let their cows graze year round. Admittedly it's easier for them because of the mild climate, but I make sure to buy only from them.

I do use canned tomatoes occasionally, so that's the only one that affects me seriously, as I wash and peel apples. Nothing else applies.

I buy organic whenever I can afford it, but sometimes it's just too expensive.

Environmentalists have been screaming about pollution for ages, and one of two of our biggest fears are the use of pesticides and how they get into both groundwater and the soil. Mankind: short sighted and selfish. We'll never change that, and as populatio increases, so will demand for as much food as they can put out. Ergo: shortcuts.

I doubt we'll ever learn, or at least enough of u to change things dramatically. Such is life.

Sig,

One of the problems with plastics in your food is that plastics aren't static in solution, they interact, and because they are themselves organic polymers, they interact very easily on a biochemical level.

Styrafoam *is* polystyrene, If it dissolves into monimers it just becomes IIRC, phenylethylene, except that it then interacts with foods chemically, to form, I believe, acrylamides, and various plastic toxins, probably phenethylamines.

It's just a bad idea to dissolve it into your coffee.
