Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

It seems we need not have been concerned about evil agencies stealing our personal information. We are much more inclined to give it away.

I understand the appeal of certifying oneself safe and getting the proverbial groove on. I just can't escape the idea that we're essentially posting part of our medical history in a semi-public fashion. I wonder how this will evolve, and whether it will be twisted and used against us.

I also wonder how long it will take before someone makes a badge hack.

Judging by the thread title, I thought you were talking about this story:

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUS197061744020100827

I find it infinitely more disturbing, given the implications.

If police need no warrant to come onto your property and place a GPS device on your car, and no warrant to track you with said device, then they also need no warrant to track you with your phone or computer, to see both where you've been "virtually" AND where you've been physically. In other words, if you have anything with any kind of GPS capabilities, the cops have every right to use it against you, no questions asked, no probably cause needed.

Of course, if you're rich enough to have a security gate or a locked garage, the same rules don't apply.

As always, how much "justice" can you afford? Maybe we should start calling it "Ju$ti¢e" instead, since it's all about the benjamins...

Hello,

Sorry Mike, I'd brought that one up a few days ago.

It bothered me greatly.

It's been that way for a long, long time.

But really, the issue is not having gates on your property. They can easily follow you to a grocery store parking lot and do it there. Where they plant it is a technicality.

The fact that they can use tracking technology on a citizen without a warrant--that alone is an egregious abrogation of our 4th Amendment rights.

FREMDFIRMA

And here I remember people callin me strange cause I use active damping and ECM in my car, as well as having an EDR that when queried by remote, issues a litany of profanity instead of a diagnostic.

Tsk, it's not whether you're paranoid, these days it's whether you're paranoid ENOUGH.

Btw, if you ever wanna totally fuck up someones zipcode-sorted database, like certain grocery and department stores who DEMAND your zipcode as part of the transaction, even when you're paying cash, somethign they got no right to...

Use this one.
17927
Centralia PA, the only zip code in history the US Postal Service has revoked - it'll jam up their database nicely till they figure it out, heh.

As for crap like that, the lady at Kmart who demanded one, I asked her where she lived in the creepiest manner I possibly could, and when she refused to tell me, I laughed, and then just stared at her till I could damn near SEE the little light bulb over her head, "Oh!"

Yeeaah, so she put in the zipcode of the store, problem solved.

Don't hand it over unless you GET something for it, and even then question what it's worth to you.

Crap - Sorry, Anthony; I've needlessly hijacked your thread, then. :(

And sorry I missed your other thread about it. One of the hazards of hardly being here anymore, I'm afraid.

Hello Mike,

Fret not. I'll take action however I can get it.

Hmm.

That sounded sleazy.

You know my feelings about it....

Before, people couldn't wrap it around their heads that anybody could even accomplish such technological feats, let alone that there existed people who we're supposed to trust that would implement them if given the chance.

But not today..... NO. We're so much more technologically savvy now. Of course we know that the technology is out there. We're all so socially conscious (not to mention utterly desperate for affordable healthcare) that we just trust this information will be used for benevolent-to-benign purposes and that our trusted leaders would never venture into the malignant-zone with the wealth of information they will have on every one of us who participate.

Why beat your head into a wall for years thinking about it though?

To quote Hypnotize Camp Posse.... "Don't save her.... She don't wanna be saved.... Don't save her.... She don't wanna be saved...."

Just watch out the best you can for you and yours and make sure they're ready for when the shit inevitably hits the fan.

History always repeats....

Trying to stop the ebbs and flows of time only leads to insanity.

Trust me.... I'm a recovering Chicken Little myself.

The sky is ALWAYS falling. I've just found that it's a lot more productive and a lot less infuriating to deal with when I don't perch myself upon a soapbox and preach the truth to people who don't want to hear it.

You're never going to convince a smoker that it's not alright to smoke in a bar where everyone is looking to poison their liver and go all in on a bet that they won't wake up with VD.

You're never going to convince a herion junkie hooker that she should leave her pimp and hookering life to live the American dream in your spacious and clean home.

You're never going to convince 30+% of the population to ever vote anything other then Democratic as long as the government can keep running this trillion+ dollar tab every year and pay out entitlements.

At least, not in a free thinking society you're not...

And that's just as much a good thing in some instances as it is a bad thing in others. All in the eye of the beholder, right?

Nobody here has seen hard times yet. They may or may not be coming. All I can say is that loved ones of those who spent their time preparing instead of bitching are going to be pretty damn popular while the rest of the world was sleeping.

Check yo'self before you wreck yo'self..... :)

Who ever said the human race was evolved mentally and emotionally beyond Darwinism?

Peace,
~6ix
