IBC Bank plans to close 14 branches located in H-E-B stores in San Antonio by the end of the year.

The branch closings will lead to the elimination of 134 positions, but Laredo-based parent International Bancshares Corp. anticipates most employees will be absorbed by its other branches.

Overall, IBC expects to close 55 smaller, in-store branches that employ about 500 people. The closings include one branch in an H-E-B in New Braunfels.
IBC Bank blamed the closings on the reduction in fees that big banks can collect on debit-card transactions starting next month. Those interchange, or “swipe,” fees currently average about 44 cents per transaction, but will drop to about 21 cents.

Dennis Nixon, IBC's chairman and CEO, said in a statement that the bank has used the fees to allow it to offer free products and services to customers and to cover other costs.

Other banks, he added, have cut their free offerings and rewards programs. But IBC customers want those offerings and programs to continue
“To keep these free offerings in place, we have to reduce expenses,” Nixon said.
IBC will continue to operate 26 branches in San Antonio and four others in the local market. The bank has $11.8 billion in assets and 275 locations in Texas and Oklahoma.

H-E-B plans to look for tenants to fill the space where IBC was operating in its grocery stores.

“It is our intention to fill those spots,” said H-E-B spokeswoman Dya Campos. “In some stores it might be a bank. In other locations, it might be better to put something else in there and try something different. We have no commitment to any one particular industry right now.”

Just as we've seen w/ the impending ObamaCare disaster, more needless, idiotic regulations , intending to HELP people, are going to put folks out of work, and cost bank customers money and add inconvenience. And for what ? More govt control.

I know right, it is not like those transaction fees negatively affected other businesses that had to pay them.

....oh wait!

Poor IBC, pushed to the edge by government regulations, They only had 32 million dollars Net Income ( same thing as Profit; income left over after costs, expenses, etc.) last year. I looked up their financial statement online.

Poor bastards will probably have to sell their BMWs, give up their private jets, and sell their Texas mansions. Maybe put their kids in public schools, have to ride busses with black and brown people. Maybe go bankrupt and have to go on Welfare. No, that's right, maybe they can get a handout from the next Obama stimulus, if it passes.
Or Rick Perry can bail them out considering Texas' booming economy-- can't be all that booming if the bankers are hurting, can it?

Since the Bush collapse, bank profits are up more than 135%. More money for them, yet lending is still down by 9% and they're laying off more and more. Citibank's profits are up, yet they're cutting thousands of jobs AND implementing a $5/month fee for using your debit card.

Yeah, it must be all the regulations... (Not)

As more and more lose their jobs, some blindly defend this President. Amazing.

And it's not just banks, but healthcare too. Rates go up and up, as insurance companies brace for higher expenditures, thanks to ObamaCare.

Study: Cost of health insurance for families in U.S. up sharply

The cost of employer-provided health insurance for American families jumped nine percent in 2011, according to a national survey conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research & Educational Trust, The Los Angeles Times reports.

The cost of employer-provided health insurance for American families jumped nine percent in 2011, according to a national survey conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research & Educational Trust, The Los Angeles Times reports.

Annual insurance premiums for families averaged $15,073 in 2011, up from $13,770 in 2010. Employers are paying $10,944 on average to cover workers and their dependents, and employees are paying $4,129.

You see, this is all planned. Rates will continue to rise, until it becomes no longer profitable for private care to remain in business. Then, as those companies go out of business, everyone will end up on govt healthcare, there by resulting in Obama's dream come true, single payer, govt run healthcare.

Utopia achieved. ( Only we as a nation can't afford it, but what the hell, right ? ) Hopefully this disaster will be tossed out on its ass, by the USSC.

Until you address the points above you will be ignored. Your stance on health care has been addressed before.

Of course the good part of the regulation is that any loss by the banks is a gain to the businesses, including small businesses. Now they get to keep or of the money they take in.

Almost as amazing as some blindly attacking this President. You're playing the correlation-equals-causation game again, otherwise known as post hoc, ergo propter hoc. You'll go to any lengths to blindly defend corporations.

That's not my experience at all. My direct experience is that my health insurance premiums went up from 24% to 39% every year for the last five years, UNTIL this year, when they went down.
