In Hawaii, some volcano has been erupting for years, and is how having it's lava flow overtake homes. Officials claim that they cannot redirect the flow, that it is not possible to redirect the flow away from the town, or the homes. Apparently they have been unable to do what most other societies have done to deflect/redirect lava flow away from cities.
Trenches are one way, and application of water (cools lava, making it's own dam) are 2 ways. I wonder where, in a place like Hawaii, would they ever find a water supply. Shirley the Pacific Ocean does not have enough water to spare.
One homeowner has dug a trench in his own yard to redirect the flow away from his home, but people are upset because they think that that means it would flow towards their homes instead - but wait, the very idea of redirecting the flow has been deigned invalid by the officials.

Troops, like National Guard or something, are told they may need to go onto this guy's property and fill in his trench, so the lava won't be redirected away from his house. But wait, this is the same government who says the flow cannot be redirected - so why bother wasting time with something which they have already declared will have no effect.

Does this make sense to anybody but the most libtarded?

Unless the guy has some serious digging equipment, I don't see it doing much good. I mean, there are miles of lava behind the leading edge, so it would take a serious grating effort to divert it to any significant degree.

I find it curious that " for the greater good " may apply here, but it seems to hold no sway w/ Obama when it comes to Ebola.

I did forget to mention that Lava Flow normally does not flow uphill. So, much like diverting gravity-based flows - like a stream or river of water - altering the path of flow is not that difficult of concept to master.

To move a lava flow a dozen feet, to miss a house is not that hard. When the lava cools, it makes it's own dam or blockage for the oncoming flow behind it. It is not a wave of lava, it is more like streams. Using trenches to divert and water to cool the leading lava itself works in every other continent, but apparently not among Libtard Hawaiians. Lava goes where gravity demands, it does not need to go in one direction and keep in that direction.

Perhaps my point was missed.
If digging a trench does in fact have no effect on the lava flow, then what is the reason for having government troops fill it back in? If they need to fill in the trench, does this not indicate that it may do some good? If it will not do any good, there is no need to have the government direct that they invade or trespass his land to fill in the trench. In the face of a moving lava flowing towards a town, does the government have nothing better to do?

Is it the government's job to tell lava where to flow?

Where are all the private corporations dying to make a profit off redirecting the lava?

Where is the free market?

Even if it's just 1 guy w/ a shovel, the mere INTENT may be enough for the govt to act. It doesn't take much.

I have no idea what he's using, how big a trench he dug, the lay of the land , etc...

It may all be a moot point, in a few weeks, months anyway. Both his and the govt's efforts may go up in smoke.

Why do you even care? If YOU can think of a way to profit, then go there your own damn self. Of course, the govt may tell you to leave. That's what govt's are good for.

What the HELL are you even talking about - CITES ??? ?

WHAT DAMN CITES ??

I SAID I didn't know the details of the story, but by simple deduction, the govt threatening to fill in any ditches this man digs is , the govt is determining where the lava will or won't flow, w/ regards to this man's property.

In a thread about the shooter in Ottawa I posted that the guy was known to be mentally ill by the RCMP. Since he couldn't - and still can't - connect the dots between his topic about the shooter and my post about the shooter, it is, to him, an example of off-topic irrelevant posting.

Which says a lot about his irrelevant presence on the board.

Hawaii road re-opens as lava flow stalls; motorists asked to not stop for lava gawking

November 27, 2014
Associated Press

Quote:

PAHOA, Hawaii – Hawaii County's civil defense director is asking motorists not to stop on a newly reopened road in a rural town to get a look at lava that has stalled less than 500 feet away.

A section of Pahoa Village Road that closed last month as lava threatened to cross it was re-opened Wednesday.

Lava from Kilauea volcano crossed a country road in Pahoa last month and residents braced for it to cover Pahoa Village Road, which goes through downtown. But the lava has been stalled for several weeks.

Hawaii County Civil Defense Director Darryl Oliveira says the hardened lava is on private property.

While the lava's leading edge remains stalled, the civil defense agency says breakouts upslope remain active Thursday. However, the breakouts don't pose any immediate threat.

Even if it was a year ago, it does not discount the lack of logic to declare that an action which has no effect must be undone to stop it's effect.

If it has not effect, leave it be.
If it has effect, use that effect to divert the lava flow away from the homes.
