Good grief... the French are almost as bad as the Chinese.

Foie gras anyone ? Maybe some escargot ?

The French should have stuck with wine, bread & cheese.

Another French favorite is 'cervelle de veau' ... calf brain. Makes you wonder just how hungry the guy who first tried that was.

calf brain? Geeze, that's just wrong. Let the animal grow up and such, before putting it on the dinner table. But the brain ? So many other tasty parts...

DEVERSE

Hey, Ive been in a firefight before! Well, I was in a fire. Actually, I was fired from a fry-cook opportunity.

So it's OK for Americans Kendall Jones and Melissa Bachman to kill lions for sport and trophy; they never ate any of the meat from the lions they killed, but not some person from another country who did eat the meat?
64% of the permits issued to hunt lions in Africa are issued to Americans and 63% of lion parts put up for sale are purchased by Americans.

Mr. Depardieu is either a liar or imagining things because unless he was with a licensed outfitter and had all the necessary permits, shooting a lion would have seen him (and those with him) doing time in jail and paying huge fines. Burkina Faso is a very stable country with a good government that looks after the country and especially the hunting/poaching as it is a major part of their tourist industry.
A lion permit in Burkina Faso is just over $28,000.00 USD. That doesn't include accommodation, guides, gun permit, hunting license, conservation/anti-poaching fund, cost of animal handling or certificates for shipping out of country. A typical lion hunt is about $50,000.00 USD, that's if a permit is available as they are issued only if the conservation agency identifies there is a sufficient number of suitable animals (sick, old, causing trouble, etc.) to issue a permit.

As for hunting a lion, isn't even a hunt. They are lazy almost all day and just lay around (it's too hot to do anything else) and the hardest part is finding one separate from a group. How docile is a lion? Pretty much. Here are a couple of pictures I took this year. No telephoto lens, I was about 30 feet away and this guy couldn't have cared less we were there.

Oh let the sun beat down upon my face;
With stars to fill my dream;
I am a traveler of both time and space;
To be where I have been

If you are going to eat an animal, you might as well eat the lot. That's the way it was done in less wasteful times, snout to tail were eaten in different ways. You killed a beast every now and then and ate the lot. There's a foodie movement here that advocates for similar practices and that's why pork belly and pigs head are back on the menu in some hipster restaurants.

While eating a lion seems rather strange, I can't see the difference in eating one animal to another. Why do we pamper our pooches, think monkeys are cute, but happy to send cows and pigs to the slaughter house?

By the way, I've eaten snails recently, and they were DEL-I-C-IOUS

Yeah Bren, I know of mountain oysters, but not from personal experience. That's strictly a " mountain folk " thing, best I can tell. Hell, one can " enjoy " those w/ out killing the whole animal. Well, once, at least.

Actual oysters, I've no problem with. It's at the mountain variety that I draw the line.

You can't see the difference between wild animals, domesticated animal pets, and animals bred for food? You really must be retarded.

The smell must have been almost as bad as your own foul stench.

Grown up avoided eating...

pig's feet, cows tongues, brains of anything, bull's nuggets...

Most exotic thing I can recall having is gator tail. Tasted like tough chicken, but less flavor.

Tried veal when I was younger, and hated it then, even before I was fully aware of what it was. blech.

Not a big fan of fish, but I do enjoy shrimp, oysters, crawfish and an occasional grouper, and salmon, if cooked just right. I don't get why folks love catfish so much. ick.

I hate liver.

Most exotic thing I have eaten as an adult outside of bison has been lobster and I'm not keen on it.

Don't care for shrimp but I love deep fried prawns. Also crab. Eaten clams, oysters. Eaten scallops and calamari too but didn't like it.
Love salmon and cod. There is a little fish that comes from the interior of BC called an Ooligan. They are tasty if battered and deep fried. You can eat the whole fish.

Veal is good and I love lamb chops.

Hubby worked with Aboriginal people and got to sample lots of bush tucker, including emu, crocodile and snake. He said 'mostly tastes like chicken'.

I'm pretty much pescatarian these days, although I did wonder whether snails counted as seafood when I ate them. Oops.

The french eat them in a garlic butter sauce and they really are quite special.
