For some people, a day of happiness and for others a day of dread. Some media people openly speculating on/ wishing for an assassination.

Obama's inauguration was marred by people who called him a Muslim, a Kenyan, a socialist, and (quietly) an ape, and his Administration (after the first two years, after he had carte blanche) marred by obstructionism from the GOP. The left, at the time, was horrified by the incivility.

Today, I see that nothing has changed except the sides.

On His First Day in Office, Trump Raises Taxes on Middle-Class Homebuyers
https://theintercept.com/2017/01/20/on-his-first-day-in-office-trump-r

In one of the first official acts of his presidency, Donald Trump has increased taxes on a million middle-class homebuyers.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development on Friday reversed a scheduled 0.25 percent cut in mortgage insurance premiums issued by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). For a mortgage worth $200,000, this adds $500 to a homebuyer’s annual costs.

These insurance fees are effectively a tax on middle-class homeownership. By reversing the cut, which was scheduled to go into effect on January 27, one week from today, Trump will be taking more money from FHA homebuyers to keep in government coffers.

Trump put forward a bleak view of current conditions, casting the richest nation on Earth as a victim of the rest of the world. “We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products, stealing our companies and destroying our jobs,” he said. He would rescue us from this horror. “This American carnage,” he said, “stops right here and stops right now.”

Kennedy used his inaugural to “let the word go forth from this time and place to friend and foe alike” that his generation of Americans wouldn’t allow the undoing of human rights. Trump’s version, a “decree” he addressed to “every foreign capital,” was inward-looking: “From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first.”

“We will bring back our jobs,” Trump said. “We will bring back our borders. We will bring back our wealth. And we will bring back our dreams.” It was a high bar Trump set for himself, and the strong economy Obama left him raises the bar further still. Trump left himself no room for falling short.

Well Trump's speech was mercifully short- 16 minutes - and to the point. I had a plumbing emergency at home to take care of, so I caught it in my car on the way to work, and my impression is that it was angry, defiant, and a giant poke-in-the-eye to the politicians in DC and elsewhere who have put everything else first BEFORE America: Their financial contributors from Saudi Arabia, their potential speaking fees, their contacts with the global glitterati, "those poor people of (fill in the blank of any convenient nation here), their burning desire for "full spectrum dominance", and all of those lovely warmaking profits which many politicians will be destined to "consult" about.

Meanwhile Soros - the globalist who wants to remake the world in HIS profit-making fashion, the guy who lost a $billion betting against Trump- has come out with guns blazing, saying "Trump will fail".

You can bet your bottom dollar that there are MANY in the DC swamp who want Trump to fail! In that context, here is the full transcript below:

Quote:

Chief Justice Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President bush, President Obama, fellow Americans, and people of the world, thank you. We the citizens of America are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and restore its promise for all of our people. Together we will determine the course of America, and the world, for many, many years to come. We will face challenges. We will confront hardships, but we will get the job done. Every four years, we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power, and we are grateful to President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for their gracious aid throughout this transition. They have been magnificent. Thank you.

Today's ceremony, however, has very special meaning, because today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another, or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you, the people. For too long, a small group in our nation's capitol has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered, but the jobs left, and the factories closed. The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories. Their triumphs have not been your triumphs, and while they celebrated in our nation's capitol, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.

That all changed starting right here and right now, because this moment is your moment. It belongs to you. It belongs to everyone gathered here today, and everyone watching, all across America. This is your day. This is your celebration, and this, the United States of America, is your country.

What truly matters is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is controlled by the people. January 20th, 2017 will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again. The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer. Everyone is listening to you now. You came by the tens of millions to become part of a historic movement, the likes of which the world has never seen before.

At the center of this movement is a crucial conviction, that a nation exists to serve its citizens. Americans want great schools for their children, safe neighborhoods for their families, and good jobs for themselves. These are just and reasonable demands of righteous people and a righteous public, but for too many of our citizens a different reality exists. Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities, rusted out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation, an education system flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of all knowledge, and the crime, and the gangs, and the drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential. This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.

We are one nation, and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams, and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one home, and one glorious destiny. The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans. For many decades, we've enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry, subsidized the armies of other countries, while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military. We've defended other nations' borders while refusing to defend our own. And spent trillions and trillions of dollars overseas while America's infrastructure has fallen into disrepair and decay. We've made other countries rich while the wealth, strength and confidence of our country has dissipated over the horizon. One by one, the factories shuddered and left our shores, with not even a thought about the millions and millions of American workers that were left behind. The wealth of our middle class has been ripped from their homes and then redistributed all across the world, but that is the past, and now we are looking only to the future.

We are assembled here today issuing a new decree to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital, and in every hall of power, from this day forward, a new vision will govern our land, from this day forward, it's going to be only America first. America first. Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs will be made to benefit American workers and American families. We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products, stealing our companies, and destroying our jobs. Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength. I will fight for you with every breath in my body, and I will never, ever let you down. America will start winning again, winning like never before. We will bring back our jobs. We will bring back our borders.

We will bring back our wealth, and we will bring back our dreams. We will build new roads and highways and bridges and airports and tunnels, and railways, all across our wonderful nation. We will get our people off of welfare and back to work, rebuilding our country with American hands and American labor. We will follow two simple rules -- buy American, and hire American.

We will seek friendship and goodwill with the nations of the world, but we do so with the understanding that it is the right of all nations to put

their own interests first. We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example, we will shine for everyone to follow. We will reinforce old alliances and form new ones, and you night the civilized world against radical islamic terrorism, which we will eradicate completely from the face of the Earth. At the bedrock of our politics will be a total allegiance to the United States of America, and through our loyalty to our country, we will rediscover our loyalty to each other. When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice.

The bible tells us, how good and pleasant it is when god's people live together in unity. We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity. When America is united, America is totally unstoppable. There should be no fear. We are protected, and we will always be protected. We will be protected by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement. And most importantly, we will be protected by god.

Finally, we must think big and dream even bigger. In America, we understand that a nation is only living as long as it is striving. We will no longer accept politicians who are all talk and no action, constantly complaining but never doing anything about it.The time for empty talk is over. Now arrives the hour of action. Do not allow anyone to tell you that it cannot be done. No challenge can match the heart and fight and spirit of America.

We will not fail. Our country will thrive and prosper again. We stand at the birth of a new millennium, ready to unlock the mysteries of space, to free the Earth from the miseries of disease, and to harness the ies industries and technologies of tomorrow. New national pride will stir our souls, lift our sights, and heal our divisions. It's time to remember that old wisdom our soldiers will never forget, that whether we are black, or brown, or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots. We all enjoy the same glorious freedoms, and we all salute the same great American flag.

And whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the windswept plains of Nebraska, they look up at the same night sky, they fill their heart with the same dreams, and they are infused with the breath of life by the same almighty creator. So to all Americans, in every city near and far, small and large, from mountain to mountain, from ocean to ocean, hear these words. You will never be ignored again. Your voice, your hopes, and your dreams will define our American destiny, and your courage and goodness and love will forever guide us along the way.

Together, we will make America strong again. We will make America wealthy again. We will make America proud when it. We will make America safe again, and yes, together we will make America great again. Thank you. God bless you. And god bless America. Thank you.

For some of you, this is probably the first time you have actually listened to more than the 2-second snippets of Trump that the biased media has broadcast.

For some of you, you STILL haven't actually listened to the man you hate so much ... which is of course just your fact-free way of forming your opinions (or, more likely, having them formed for you).

To, the message was clear: America first. WHY are we worried about Poland and Germany? WHY do we represent Saudi Arabia's interests in the Mideast? WHY have we allowed China to become wealthy while sucking us dry of jobs? WHY do we continue to provoke and antagonize Russia? WHY are we so worried about poor illegal and potential immigrants when we have poor citizens at home?

In other words: What are America's interests? Not other nations' interests conflated with ours, but OUR interests? http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.aspx?tid=60986 I'm going to start answering that question in the other thread ... I have held off on posting much of anything there in the hopes that SOMEBODY would step forward and post something, but apparently the topic is anathema to those who profess to be so worried about "America" in the first place.

Somebody has stepped forward. They sent a message directly to Trump about what is in the best interests of America and they used the website created by the White House:

Petition the White House on the Issues that Matter to You

The first petition for Trump, which has already received sufficient signatures (100,000 necessary, 123,271 actually signed) for Trump to respond to is:

Immediately release Donald Trump's full tax returns, with all information needed to verify emoluments clause compliance.
Quote:

The unprecedented economic conflicts of this administration need to be visible to the American people, including any pertinent documentation which can reveal the foreign influences and financial interests which may put Donald Trump in conflict with the emoluments clause of the Constitution.
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/immediately-release-donald-t
rumps-full-tax-returns-all-information-needed-verify-emoluments-clause-compliance

The White House has only until February 19, 2017 to response.

Trump lashed out at a reporter who asked about his tax returns. He claimed that Americans don’t care: “I won, when I became president. No, I don’t think they care at all. I don’t think they care at all.”
www.nytimes.com/2017/01/11/us/politics/trump-press-conference-transcri
pt.html

Without Trump’s tax returns it is impossible to know that Trump has no conflicts of interest between what is in the best interests for the Trump family fortune and what is the best interests for the USA.

One phone call to Trump's accountant could answer this petition, but Trump won't make the call. Why? Why? Why?

Trump stopped just short of calling Obama, the Clintons, and the Bushes traitors. When Presidents make decisions without keeping the interests of the USA first, what are they? Did they not promise to defend the USA against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and to defend the Constitution?

So what standards are we holding Presidents to, if any?

... The best example of this, so far, is an article penned this morning by Gabor Steingart, chief in chief of Handelsblatt, Germany's leading economic newspaper, who burned all compromise bridges when he said that "that was no presidential speech; that was a veritable declaration of war."
On whom?

Quote:

The savage criticism continued: "Threatening in tone. Cold and calculating in logic. Change minus the hope. Donald Trump used the traditional Inauguration Day address to settle a score with the U.S. political establishment going back decades. With four ex-presidents sitting a few feet behind him, the 45th president delivered a populist manifesto."

As I was listening to the speech, I couldn't help but think how it was being received by BOTH parties in DC ... And by foreign capitals around the world.

This is what Trump said about foreign policy

Quote:

For many decades, we've enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry; subsidized the armies of other countries, while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military. We've defended other nations' borders while refusing to defend our own. ... And spent trillions and trillions of dollars overseas while America's infrastructure has fallen into disrepair and decay. We will reinforce old alliances and form new ones and unite the civilized world against radical Islamic terrorism, which we will eradicate from the face of the Earth.

I can't see any "threat" from Trump to any recognized nation in the world. The only open threat was to radical Islam.

What this speech DOES threaten are the hangers-on: Those nations and entities that depend on American military, financial, or economic largesse* for their continued prosperity.

(*A generous bestowal of gifts)

Thank you SIX! One of the "numbers" that Democrats point to is the "unemployment" number. But both the political administrations and the business community have figured out how to phony that number up, because all it takes for someone to be considered as "employed" is one hour per month of work. In addition, if you're discouraged about seeking work and choose to spend your time in school or your mom's basement, you aren't counted either.

You wouldn't believe the homeless problem here, despite the "improved" economy!

Part-time work and the "gig economy" really inflate the employment figures to the point where they're utter nonsense.

Do you think that fat fraud Trump is going to get you a job? You’re going to have to get off your couch and get your own job.

If you can’t find a job, then you’re living in the wrong place. Leave it for work elsewhere. Trump will not be reopening the local mine. If you’re watching daytime TV, turn it off and go outside. You were bragging about how your class notes for PLCs (for everybody, that is Programmable Logic Controllers) were the very best. What did you do with that knowledge? Nothing?

Who will hire you if they never see you? Who is going to hire you if you don’t know anything? Over the next decade, nearly 3½ million manufacturing jobs will likely be needed, and 2 million are expected to go unfilled due to the skills gap. Moreover, according to a recent report, 80 percent of manufacturers report a moderate or serious shortage of qualified applicants for skilled and highly-skilled production positions. All it takes to not be counted on the Unemployment numbers is to not be actively filing a weekly or bi-weekly unemployment report. I don't know anybody who actually fills this out anymore after the unemployment payments stop after 6 months (or longer if unemployment is over a certain amount in your state).

As far as I know, it's always been this way. The official unemployment statistic is strictly based off of the percentage of people in the state/country that are filing weekly unemployment claims.

I honestly can't argue any of that. I am in a unique position of having training in an industry that has a shortage of qualified applicants, even without a college degree. My biggest hurdles would be the lack of actual experience in the industry vs my age.

I, personally, am not very worried about my future. I know I need to get up off my ass and do something with my life.

That doesn't change any of the statistics I mentioned above though. As a whole, this country's economy hasn't been this bad since after the Great Depression. I'm just wondering where you get the idea that Obama left office with a "Strong Economy" is all...

Trump Inherits Strong Economy—Could Tinkering Backfire?

Housing prices, consumer confidence and corporate profits are up. Unemployment is down. But with Donald Trump pledging to “make America great again,” the question is: could tinkering too much with what’s working stall or even reverse economic momentum? WSJ’s Jason Bellini reports.

Where did we see anything at the Obama inauguration as you describe ? " Marred " ? If anything, it was a near religious experience for most of the Media, and was universally reported as such.

Yes, there were fringe cases of those thing say, but his Inauguration wasn't by any means 'marred ' by that stuff. Where were the riots ? Where were the ' monkey ' signs, other than on the internet ?

My apologies. You do come off as being very left handed though. :)

I especially apologize for insinuating that you were part of the regressive left. I have a lot of respect for true Liberals, actually. People like Jimmy Dore I think have a lot of worthwhile things to say. It's the SJW crowd that I avoid like the plague.

Part of your problem right there is paying any attention to the WSJ. What is a gun toting Republican reading a fake news rag like that for anyhow?

There were a lot of changes recently regarding Rupert Murdock. He doesn't run any of that stuff any more. His liberal sons do. You may have noticed how FOX news was pretty much pro Hillary aside from O'Rielly who stayed pretty much neutral and Hannity who supported Trump the whole way.

The WSJ was one of the rags claiming that Clinton was way out in front in the race until the very last day. Claiming on Trump's first day in office that Obama leaves office with a strong economy is just a Liberal rag trying to re-write history.

They can say all they want that the economy is great, but the facts don't lie.

- Home ownership is at an all time low among people under 33 years old.
- Student college debt is at an all time high.
- The national debt is twice what it was 8 years ago and 4 times what it was 16 years ago.
- More Americans are on Food Stamps than ever in history.
- More than half of American families are making less than the federal poverty level.

True that. The media has been kissing Obama's ass and covering for his destructiveness since day 0.

For comparison, the media has been having a never-ending hate-fest for Trump ever since whenever, whipping up their little droids into a frenzy of bitching and carping.

Before you start with the everything-is-unfair-liberal-media, Trump rambled on Saturday about how he’s been on the cover of Time magazine more often than anybody. (In fact, the title is held by Richard Nixon, which says something about what gets a president on a lot Time magazine covers.) His visit to the CIA was supposed to reassure the intelligence community. Boy did that backfire.

Trump made some big promises to shake up things during the first 100 days. I'm interpreting that to mean 6ix will be getting a good job, a great job, the greatest job 6ixStringJack ever had during the first 100 days. Or are we already reinterpreting those promises to mean an ordinary job during the first 1,000 days? A thousand is only one more zero added to a hundred. No big deal.

The insults are directed at Trump because he promises what he does not know how to deliver. His self is wrapped up in not acknowledging he does not know. Maybe he will get lucky? Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile. Trump is already squirrelly on Day 3.

Trump is a chattering squirrel: Minutes into Trump’s term, lawyers for Bergdahl cited Trump’s scathing criticism in a request to dismiss charges that Bergdahl endangered comrades by walking off his post in Afghanistan. The motion filed Friday argues Trump violated his due process rights by repeatedly calling him a traitor and suggesting ways he could be punished. Does Trump know that he is not supposed do these things? A military court will weigh the real-world consequences of President Donald Trump’s fiery rhetoric as Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl argues he can’t get a fair trial under his new commander in chief.

Trump was asked 'How will we know when America is Great Again'. His answer was 'I'll tell you when'. That's not good enough. He needs to pick a measure of Greatness that can be verified without depending on Trump's telling. What better way for 6ixStringJack to know when America is Great Again then when 6ix is employed again? How great depends on how great that job is. It ties all Trump's promises into one convenient data point to judge Trumpism. My test for when America is Great Again is: "Has my $100,000 tax cut arrived from the IRS?" That will be true greatness. If Trump keeps his promise of a big tax cut for the wealthy, I might even vote for him in 2020, depending on who is running as a Democrat and how big the tax cut.

How Big? This Big? Bigger? Biggest Tax Cut Ever?

One of the thing is I would like to see about the Inauguration speech is some sort of intelligent analysis.

Entities against:

Nations dependent on America's military without having to bear the cost
NATO: Britain, Canada, Germany, Poland, France, etc (Most really don't pay their fair share)
Israel
Japan (by treaty)
Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE etc

Nations which depend on exporting to the USA for wealth (in order of negative balance of trade)
China
Germany
Japan
Canada
Mexico
And then in no special order Taiwan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE etc

Transnationals depending on cheap foreign labor, foreign infrastructure, and offshored earnings to maximize profits
Apple, Walmart, Costco, most textile and clothing manufacturers, most chip makers, most chemical industries, steel makers, bankers and speculators (like Soros) etc

International organizations that depend on American financial largesse:
United Nations
International Monetary Fund
World Bank
NGOs

Mixed-allegiance politicians and wonks who don't identify as "American"
Pro-Zionist neocons who are either dual citizens with Israel or act like it: Rumsfeld, Wurmser, Feith, Bolton, Libby, Kagan, Abrams, Armitage, Bergner, Kristol, Perle, Wolfowitz, Woolsey, Zoellick etc, plus the infamous CT Senator Leiberman who once accidentally referred to Israel as "we".

Politicians who trade in identity politics, for whom there is no such thing as an "American" identity unless it is prefixed with black-, Hispanic-, Muslim-, feminist-, gay- etc.

Politicians and wonks who depend on (indirect) foreign contributions - like Hillary and Saudi Arabia
The deep-state (CIA, State Department etc) which enjoy existing in the armpit of foreign and American power

Liberals who conflate America's interests with EVERYONE'S interests, which lead them to feel that American has the right to intervene in every nation.

That's a lot of people who don't want AMERICA FIRST! (And I'm sure I forgot someone along the way)

Another response to Trump's speech:

Quote:

Alibaba founder Jack Ma has a brutal theory of how America went wrong over the past 30 years

..." American international companies made millions and millions of dollars from globalisation," Ma said. ... "IBM, Microsoft," he added, "the profit they made was larger than the top four banks in China put together ... But where did the money go?"

Ma said that 30 years ago the American companies that people in China heard about were Ford and Boeing. Today the companies that people in China talk about are in Silicon Valley and on Wall Street.

At the same time, the US spent a lot of money on foreign conflicts. "In the past 30 years, America had 13 wars spending $14.2 trillion ... no matter how good your strategy is you're supposed to spend money on your own people," Ma said. "The money goes to Wall Street. Then what happened? Year 2008 wiped out $19.2 trillion in US income ... What if the money was spent on the Midwest of the United States? ... The other countries steal jobs from you guys — that is your strategy. You did not distribute the money in the proper way." http://www.businessinsider.com/alibaba-jack-ma-davos-america-history-g
lobalization-2017-1

Quote:

Nobody ‘stealing’ your jobs, you spend too much on wars, Alibaba founder tells US

Over the past thirty years, the Americans had thirteen wars spending 40.2 trillion dollars,” said Ma, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos. “What if they spent a part of that money on building up the infrastructure, helping the white-collar and the blue-collar workers? No matter how strategically good it is, you’re supposed to spend money on your own people.”

“And the other money which I’m curious about is that when I was young, all I heard about America was Ford and Boeing and those big manufacturing companies. The last 10-20 years, all I heard about is Silicon Valley and Wall Street,” he continued. “And what happened? The year 2008: the financial crisis wiped out 19.2 trillion dollars in the USA alone and destroyed 34 million jobs globally. So what if the spent on Wall Street and the Middle East was spent on the Mid-West of the United States, developing the industry there? That could change a lot.”

Some of it true. If we have spent our money on useful things instead of pointless wars, we would be a lot farther ahead.

It depends on who you define as we.

If you mean we, the population of this country, then yes, we would be a lot farther ahead. But if you mean the business elite - I hope you realize that for them, spending their money on us non-entities doesn't increase either their wealth or power. Our benefit comes at their expense and that class of people we would be a lot farther behind. In fact, a bloated military and endless war benefits those we very nicely.

Almost everyone who had any kind of serious policy doubts about Clinton invested vast time and energy in exploring them, regardless of whether or not they had much more profound doubts about Trump, because everyone knew Clinton would win anyway.

Mainstream journalists spent more time poring over potential access-seeking at Clinton’s undoubtedly life-saving charitable foundation than they did detailing the fact that Trump’s foundation was a potentially criminal fraud that appears to have had no legitimate public benefit.

Everyone knew Clinton would win anyway. So why vote? Trump’s opponents failed to unify around a single compelling alternative. He wasn’t popular on Election Day and he wasn’t popular on Inauguration Day. And he’s not doing anything to try to turn that around.

I bet you can't show me a single presidential election where half of the country voted. The numbers really weren't down all that much percentage wise from the last election.

You're right about the media though. Not only did it make lazy democrats stay at home, but it got republicans out to vote that hadn't voted in 20 or more years.

You are aware that that "live saving" charity of the Clintons just shut its doors, right? Seems like no money comes in when Middle Eastern princes and warlords aren't buying themselves a US President.

I think the Clintons either better pay that money back on the sly, or go into hiding. They took some BIG money from some very powerful people I wouldn't want to owe 5 bucks to.

Turnout for the 2016 election was not nearly as bad as the MSM tells you that it was... unless you want to compare it to the 1800's and/or voter turnout in other industrialized nations in the world.

Many Americans have abdicated control. They aren’t in charge of themselves. Not voting follows from that. Voting is too much engagement with controlling their own lives. Better to watch life and elections on TV because that takes so much less effort.
