Back for today and another frustrating morning at mah jong. It was raining when I left but cold and dry when I got back.

Took me an hour and a half to break 1,000points. I almost had all 4 flowers about 3 times. I managed to go out once today. Then I almost had winds and dragons but couldn't get rid of three tiles. Ugh!

It happens. Just when you think a hand is going to go your way it just falls apart.

Though they had a reasonable lunch on at the senior's centre, so I had that today. Crispy chicken thighs with mashed potatoes and gravy. Unfortunately the veg where just hammered. They tend to roast them but I don't think they watch them too well. Also they were a little heavy on the garlic with chicken. I am still tasting it now at 8:30.

Well, I have been worrying about and tending to sick dog. She's been eating less and less over the past several days until not eating or drinking at all yesterday.
No other symptoms, so took her to vet urgent care thinking maybe pancreatitis. That was his thought too, but blood tests don't indicate anything wrong with her pancreas ... or liver or kidneys or blood sugar either. Was sent home with gapapentin (pain) and flagyl (antibiotic/ antiprotazoan).

Very scant pee this AM walk, clearly dehydrated, very lethargic, so set a 20-minute timer and squirted 3 mL of broth into her mouth each time until almost 1/4 cup gone.

Still waiting to see if she gets better. If not by tomorrow PM, back to the vets! In the meantime, keeping her hydrated. She is supposed to get 1/2 c fluid every day, by body weight. Starting with water now.

What I don't do for those under my care!

*****

Well, Nov, Dec, and Jan a bust AFA rain. Nothing, nothing, and still nothing. Finished deep watering the front yard trees and shrubs and started deep watering the trees in back.

Back to tending the dog. In a few hours gonna have to squirt meds into her mouth. She hates them, what a struggle!

Sorry about the pooch still not doing good.

Well, one of the people I wanted to talk to called me back yesterday(Monday) afternoon. And I called 1 other place this morning(Tuesday) and got another human to talk too. That was at the neurologist's office. Had to switch my phone appointment to an in office one, which did. So I now go on March 31st but that's okay as I will have new hearing aides by then.

Sorry about that SIG. "Press" is just another word for publisher. Some places instead of using the word publisher in their names will say "press" after the name.

I feel you.

When I finally wrap up my project and get back to real life I don't even want to think about the large pile of crap that needs being done.

Getting really close to the state I want to leave it in. It will never be completed in my lifetime, but I do believe that I'm leaving it in such a way that it will entice people to want to work on it more when they see it presented in a light it's never been seen in before, and just how useful and beautiful it is in this state. Not only that.... but because I'm not a coder, I don't suffer from the coder's biggest downfall... bad documentation. I'm leaving behind a very easy to follow roadmap for the next people, so they don't have to spend years figuring out much of that on their own. Not that it's simple or easy, but at least there's guide now.

The amount of work that I've done leading up to this, is only a small fragment of what could be elevated to this level. And I think with good coding skills that are beyond my level, people could see what I've done so far and come up with way easier and faster ways to add more to it. I didn't have the coding skills, but I've got the vision. Sometimes all you need to do is spend a few years of your free time doing it the hard way so that somebody who has the skills can have the vision too.

This is all about elimination of double work, in an area that gets so few people who want to help out, but whenever anyone does, all too often they have spent far too much time working on the same thing at the same time, or working on something that was already finished because they didn't know that somebody else had already finished it.

It's the only positive example of putting SigSigma to use. I guess when nobody is making any money and that's not part of the equation, SixSigma is a great thing. Who'd have thunk it?

I'm going to have an "If you build it, they will come moment". Or I won't.

I have no idea what will happen.

Maybe it all gets forgotten about once I walk away for good and some random AI stumbles on it the project 1,000 years from now and finishes the whole thing in 1/10th of a second for me.

Its -3F (-20C) in WNY. Sis has been sending me pix of the street regularly. December seemed pretty mild, but last half of this month??? COLD, COLD, AND SNOW.

Apparently the polar ice slipped and fell off the north pole and invaded central/east USA. New Orleans reportedly got 9" of snow, and its colder at sis' house than at Whitehorse, Yukon territory. I checked!

Meanwhile ... here it's dry dry dry. More fires, what else is new? I finished deep watering everything, and if we don't get substantial rain in 2 weeks gonna do it all over again. The water bill is gonna be phenomenal. But, ya gotta do what ya gotta do keep the trees alive.

Crazy as it sounds, I'm still harvesting fresh tomatoes from the three plants I put in last summer.

ETA: And picking early avocados of the trees to ripen indoors. Between them and the tomatoes and winter greens (arugula, romaine, shredded cabbage) and my favorite- kalamata olives- that makes a decent breakfast salad! So happy about the tomatoes!

No worries SIG.

Got back after 5pm today. And mah jong was so-so for not getting to the game till around 2:45pm.

Hearing is stable more or less in both ears. To me it seemed like the hearing test ran a little longer than last year. She showed me the results and yes when there is high background noise all words run together and I can't make out anything. The word repeat section was good but again the more noise in the background picking out words and repeating them gets harder for me. I am not loosing letters and can still speak fine, so that is good. Hearing aides are about shot and I will be getting new ones in about 3 weeks. Going back to the battery ones and the audiologist agrees with me. The ones you can recharge are okay but they do have drawbacks which I found out.

Glad to read your project is winding up. Some projects can be so all-consuming you wind up getting sick of them.

Yes. All-consuming is a good way to classify this. Outside of sleeping, this project has probably taken up 70% of my Time since the first or second week of August. All unpaid work, of course.

There are some days I feel really burnt out on it, but usually once I get into the groove, hours can pass without my realizing it. It's almost like highway hypnosis or meditation. It's not easy to get into that state, but once I'm there it's basically unstoppable until I need to sleep.

Woke up this morning and it's 20 degrees outside. Heat wave!

What you're doing is called, I think, hyperfocusing. Hubby did, when programming. He managed to corral his ADHD and make it work for him.

It's only happened to me a couple of times. Once when I was learning to play Go (intense visualization). You say you have a "vision". Do you feel that you're visualizing as you're working on your project? Bc I wonder if "hyperfocusing" is really associated with intense visualization.

*****

I found this and thought it was interesting.

Quote:

HYPERFOCUS

Have you ever been “in the zone”? You know, when that important research paper suddenly seems to be writing itself? Or you’re so close to winning that video game you’ve been fixated on for weeks? Or you simply have to know what’s going to happen in chapter 4 … and chapter 5 … and chapter 72? Have you ever looked up at the clock and realized you haven’t moved, eaten or gone to the bathroom in, like, eight hours — and that the rest of your family is fast asleep?

Sure you have. We all have at some point or another. But why?

It’s a phenomenon called hyperfocus. While we commonly associate hyperfocus with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), it’s something everybody does from time to time. Depending on what you’re hyperfocused on and why, it can be a great thing. It could also be … well, not so great.

We talked to pediatric behavioral health specialist Michael Manos, PhD, to learn what’s exactly happening when we hyperfocus, why hyperfocus is such a common feature of ADHD, and how to make hyperfocus work for you, not against you.
What is hyperfocus?

Dr. Manos defines hyperfocus as “the capacity for a person to engage in a task or an activity to the exclusion of everything else.” Time flies by when you’re engaged in something you find captivating.

While commonly regarded as a symptom of ADHD, most people have the capacity to hyperfocus in certain contexts.

“Many, many people can get overly engaged with a task or activity,” Dr. Manos says. “Ask yourself: What is it that you can do for hours at a time and it doesn’t bother you?”

Sleep. That's what I can do for hours at a time!

Well, I got one piece of good news and one possible piece of good news.

The first is that I got my bone density test results done, and for a woman of my age who almost never drank milk or ate dairy products, my bones are A-OK! They measure at six places, and one place in my right leg was just a teeny tiny smidge into slight bone loss, but every place else was great! So I'm happy.

The other thing is, I may have fixed the dog. After an expensive set of blood tests and X-rays which ruled out obstruction, foreign object, pancreatitis, or anything wrong wigh kidneys or liver ... and after giving her several doses of flagyl, which didn't help ... by close observation I figured out that the problem wasn't her appetite, or her teeth, cancer, or any sort of overall illness.

She was refusing food because eating itself was causing a problem. I was worried that she might have swallowed a foxtail or something similar. But on the off chance that she had gastritis, or an ulcer, or GERD or something similar... and knowing that famotidine (Pepcid) is very safe for people... and looking up the canine use and dosage ... I started giving her famotidine last night, and today she's eating again.

I'll see if the improvement continues. But if it does, I'll be very happy!

I had my own finacial adventure BRENDA. Fortunately I didn't have to go all the way to a nearby city to have it fixed! For me, it was just down the street by car to the bank.

But it did take two hours today trying to get a typo fixed. We had set up an account, but our last name was misspelled on the statement. Not on the address, and not online, but the hardcopy statement. Everything looked all correct on all the screens that bank reps could access directly. Turns out that it was some weird- *ss backdoor entry you could only get to from a redirect from a non-obvious online form.

But it's been such a stressful week, I didn't mind spending the time just chillin'. At least I didn't have a sick dog giving me sad eyes, and others clammoring for attention.

You're lucky. Little things always seem to take the longest.

Because of the postal strike all bills for the end of December were messed up. I over paid on my cable and internet bill. I found my way into the mall but directory board was messed up. So once I started walking I saw a security guard and asked him for the Shaw store but now it is just Rogers. He gave me directions that were useful as I was going in the right direction. The lady checked my account and saw the payment I made yesterday on December. The bill I got in the mail yesterday was for January. So she said I will be getting a credit if it all goes through. There is so much construction going on around this mall it isn't funny.

Today was a complete vacation day for me. Except for the dog taking me for a walk, fixing dinner (oven fried chicken, sweet potato, spinach, cauliflower) and tidying up the kitchen, there was nothing that I put on my agenda. Except for the dog taking me for a walk, fixing dinner (oven fried chicken, sweet potato, spinach, cauliflower) and tidying up the kitchen, there was nothing that I put on my agenda. I know I have lots and lots to do, but I think I'm so relieved that I probably won't have to find a vet to do a deep dive that I just kind of sagged.

Age of Ultron. Sounds familiar. Transformers?

"Age of Ultron" is actually the last Avengers movie from what I could tell.

Got to check out a press that I thought was closed. Maybe I looked at the wrong spot again.

Back and all done for today. Ears cleaned, meds refilled, and the pharmacy opened the allergy eye drops that I couldn't. So yay! 2 treatments of drops and eyes look much better.

I got a great chuckle out of that one.

It was that good, huh?

What do you mean? They ask questions in such complicated or restrictive ways that yocan't just explain??

We got 5/8" of rain. That's our total for our water-year so far!! Good thing I invested in low-water native landscaping.

I stabilized doggy with famotidine (Pepcid) stomach acid reducer, and low doses of diazepam (Valium, tranquilizer). She is at least eating and not losing more weight. So, if the answer is Pepcid and Valium... what's the question? IDK. At least she's not in distress, and when I find a vet who can puzzle this out with me, this is where we stay.

I did manage, finally to get outside and do yardwork. It just amazes me how much time taking care of a dog, a disabled daughter, a house, and a husband... and of course, myself ... requires.

Hubby did something cool and turned his drill press into a vertical lathe!
