Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: Its -3F (-20C) in WNY. Sis has been sending me pix of the street regularly. December seemed pretty mild, but last half of this month??? COLD, COLD, AND SNOW. Apparently the polar ice slipped and fell off the north pole and invaded central/east USA. New Orleans reportedly got 9" of snow, and its colder at sis' house than at Whitehorse, Yukon territory. I checked! Meanwhile ... here it's dry dry dry. More fires, what else is new? I finished deep watering everything, and if we don't get substantial rain in 2 weeks gonna do it all over again. The water bill is gonna be phenomenal. But, ya gotta do what ya gotta do keep the trees alive. Crazy as it sounds, I'm still harvesting fresh tomatoes from the three plants I put in last summer. ETA: And picking early avocados of the trees to ripen indoors. Between them and the tomatoes and winter greens (arugula, romaine, shredded cabbage) and my favorite- kalamata olives- that makes a decent breakfast salad! So happy about the tomatoes! ***** Oh! "Press!" I should have guessed! ***** Glad to read your project is winding up. Some projects can be so all-consuming you wind up getting sick of them.

Quote: HYPERFOCUS Have you ever been “in the zone”? You know, when that important research paper suddenly seems to be writing itself? Or you’re so close to winning that video game you’ve been fixated on for weeks? Or you simply have to know what’s going to happen in chapter 4 … and chapter 5 … and chapter 72? Have you ever looked up at the clock and realized you haven’t moved, eaten or gone to the bathroom in, like, eight hours — and that the rest of your family is fast asleep? Sure you have. We all have at some point or another. But why? It’s a phenomenon called hyperfocus. While we commonly associate hyperfocus with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), it’s something everybody does from time to time. Depending on what you’re hyperfocused on and why, it can be a great thing. It could also be … well, not so great. We talked to pediatric behavioral health specialist Michael Manos, PhD, to learn what’s exactly happening when we hyperfocus, why hyperfocus is such a common feature of ADHD, and how to make hyperfocus work for you, not against you. What is hyperfocus? Dr. Manos defines hyperfocus as “the capacity for a person to engage in a task or an activity to the exclusion of everything else.” Time flies by when you’re engaged in something you find captivating. While commonly regarded as a symptom of ADHD, most people have the capacity to hyperfocus in certain contexts. “Many, many people can get overly engaged with a task or activity,” Dr. Manos says. “Ask yourself: What is it that you can do for hours at a time and it doesn’t bother you?”

Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: Well, I got one piece of good news and one possible piece of good news. The first is that I got my bone density test results done, and for a woman of my age who almost never drank milk or ate dairy products, my bones are A-OK! They measure at six places, and one place in my right leg was just a teeny tiny smidge into slight bone loss, but every place else was great! So I'm happy. The other thing is, I may have fixed the dog. After an expensive set of blood tests and X-rays which ruled out obstruction, foreign object, pancreatitis, or anything wrong wigh kidneys or liver ... and after giving her several doses of flagyl, which didn't help ... by close observation I figured out that the problem wasn't her appetite, or her teeth, cancer, or any sort of overall illness. She was refusing food because eating itself was causing a problem. I was worried that she might have swallowed a foxtail or something similar. But on the off chance that she had gastritis, or an ulcer, or GERD or something similar... and knowing that famotidine (Pepcid) is very safe for people... and looking up the canine use and dosage ... I started giving her famotidine last night, and today she's eating again. I'll see if the improvement continues. But if it does, I'll be very happy! ----------- "It may be dangerous to be America's enemy, but to be America's friend is fatal." - Henry Kissinger AMERICANS SUPPORT AMERICA

Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: Turns out dog's problem is better but not resolved. ***** I had my own finacial adventure BRENDA. Fortunately I didn't have to go all the way to a nearby city to have it fixed! For me, it was just down the street by car to the bank. But it did take two hours today trying to get a typo fixed. We had set up an account, but our last name was misspelled on the statement. Not on the address, and not online, but the hardcopy statement. Everything looked all correct on all the screens that bank reps could access directly. Turns out that it was some weird- *ss backdoor entry you could only get to from a redirect from a non-obvious online form. But it's been such a stressful week, I didn't mind spending the time just chillin'. At least I didn't have a sick dog giving me sad eyes, and others clammoring for attention. ----------- "It may be dangerous to be America's enemy, but to be America's friend is fatal." - Henry Kissinger AMERICANS SUPPORT AMERICA

Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: Boy did the weather change! We now have dark storm clouds and a cold wind. Rain, rain, rain..... please rain! ***** I increased the dog's famotidine and she is doing better than before. She's actually mooching food from us now. Problem was I was trying to split teeny tiny pills and they powdered more than split. I did have a few bigger pills, same dosage, so I was able to get more credible amounts, but I'll need to go to store and get some more of those bigger pills. It's amazing how much the dog's illness stresses me out! ***** Today was a complete vacation day for me. Except for the dog taking me for a walk, fixing dinner (oven fried chicken, sweet potato, spinach, cauliflower) and tidying up the kitchen, there was nothing that I put on my agenda. I know I have lots and lots to do, but I think I'm so relieved that I probably won't have to find a vet to do a deep dive that I just kind of sagged. ***** Age of Ultron. Sounds familiar.
