I forget exactly where I learned that one.

I don’t know where you heard it either, because the ethic of reciprocity is so widely stated it could have been anywhere. It’s certainly one worth pointing to thought. And if I ever found my self in a position in which I could save the lives of thousands of innocent people targeted by terrorists, but refused to provide that information, then hopefully someone would be decent enough to persuade me.

Nihil est incertius vulgo, nihil obscurius voluntate hominum, nihil fallacius ratione tota comitiorum.

Nothing is more unpredictable than the mob, nothing more obscure than public opinion, nothing more deceptive than the whole political system.

I think some family members of those who died in the Oklahoma City Bombing wished to pursue forgiveness of Ted K. (I don't have time to look up his name's spelling).

I think you're thinking of Timothy McVeigh. Teddy the K was the Unibomber. Allegedly. :)

Oops! Timothy McVeigh. I don't know where "Ted" came from...

Edit to add: I was thinking of the unabomber -- that's where "Ted" came from...

But definitely NOT Ted Kennedy, right?

I think you confused AuRaptor with that. It's not hard to do. Any bright shiny thing will usually do the trick...

Never? Never ever? What if by torturing someone you prevent the torture of everyone else? You'd condemn all but the torturer to torture by your failure to act. Thats seems unreasonable.

The ends can justify the means. It depends entirely on what ends and what means.
