Jack, I'm not sure what you mean about being sorry for my debt? I don't have any debt...we own our home free and clear, along with our cars, etc. Jim has a credit card, I refuse to get one ever again. We don't owe anyone anything, and hope to keep it that way.

As to
Quote:

Unless your step kids are going to REALLY get DEEP in IT and make it their BITCH.... they'll probably be working along side me at Wal-Mart stocking shelves overnight unless they're really lucky.
as I said, they're both middle aged. His daughter is married to a guy from money who is also quite well off on his own, he's a cameraman with his own company (and has worked for a number of TV shows which would be familiar to you, as well as the SF 49ers). They travel the world constantly and have a condo in Tahoe. His son is in bad shape, mostly through no fault of his own, and will continue to have a hard time. But he's determined to live in Mammoth, so he takes what work he can to stay there. I don't blame him, it beats the hell out of "civilization". His problems began in the Army, where he was injured and the military did a half-assed job of fixing him; the work he does requires heavy lifting, so now his back is screwed up. He's a survivor, tho', and will never end up in WalMart, believe me!

Reading your posts to me and to Mike, I'm getting the feeling you're a bit "out there" for my taste. Obama = the end of America? Wow. I'll leave it at that.

Hero, you go on and on about things you've "heard". I posit you've "heard" it all from FauxNews and the right wing, things they have CLAIMED to be true, but are not. So if you want to be taken seriously:

PROVE anyone in the Occupy movement has said the things you claim.
PROVE there are people on the left who "love abortion".
What the White House pays its employees is absolutely NOT proof that "one side" pays it's women less.
PROVE " Democratic leaders, liberal celebrities, and enviromental (sic) special interest groups want higher gas prices. As to Obama wanting them, I'll deal with that in a minute.
PROVE that anyone in N.O.W. has said or believes that stay-at-home moms are somehow "bad".

You can't prove ANY of that, because the simple fact is none of it is true. I will take the time to PROVE two things that are specifically untrue, but I won't bother beyond that:

"Obama was supposed to fix all that" is not an answer; please show me where he said he would fix everything. He's tried, but the mess is worse than he or we knew initially, and he's had a Congress which DECLARED openly that their aim is to defeat everything Obama wants to do, whether it's good for the country or not, whether it creates jobs or not (preferably not, given they want things to be worse in hopes of defeating him)

Here's the biggest lie: "if he didn't get a handle on it he should not get a second term". Geez, that old saw again. HE NEVER SAID THAT! All your premises seem to be straight out of the twisted "spin" and outright lies of right-wing pundits and Faux News. The actual quote, for the umpteenth time, is as follows: "And you know, a year from now I think people are going to see that we're starting to make some progress. But there's still going to be some pain out there. If I don't have this done in three years, then there's going to be a one-term proposition." So. We are making "some" progress. There still is pain out there. He doesn't have it done in three years, so it's up to the PEOPLE whether they want to give him more time or not.

I wish to hell righties would stop with the "promise" thing, already, and twisting it to his having said he wouldn't "deserve" a second term, or whatever. IT NEVER HAPPENED!

Re Politifact:
Quote:

What we can rule on, however, is whether the Obama administration "promised" that unemployment rates would not rise above 8 percent if the stimulus were passed. We could find no instance of anyone in the administration directly making such a public pledge.

What we saw from the administration in January was a projection, not a promise. And it was a projection that came with heavy disclaimers.

"It should be understood that all of the estimates presented in this memo are subject to significant margins of error," the report states. "There is the more fundamental uncertainty that comes with any estimate of the effects of a program. Our estimates of economic relationships and rules of thumb are derived from historical experience and so will not apply exactly in any given episode. Furthermore, the uncertainty is surely higher than normal now because the current recession is unusual both in its fundamental causes and its severity."

There's also a footnote that goes along with the chart that states: "Forecasts of the unemployment rate without the recovery plan vary substantially. Some private forecasters anticipate unemployment rates as high as 11% in the absence of action."

That sure doesn't sound like a full-fledged promise to us.

We think it's a big stretch to call an economic projection a "promise." The administration never characterized it that way and included plenty of disclaimers saying the predictions had "significant margins of error" and a higher degree of uncertainty due to a recession that is "unusual both in its fundamental causes and its severity."

Just as a side note, to quote Biden:
Quote:

"The truth is, we and everyone else misread the economy," Biden said. "The figures we worked off of in January were the consensus figures in most of the blue chip indexes out there. ... And so the truth is, there was a misreading of just how bad an economy we inherited."
As to higher gas prices, again I'll bother to DIRECTLY QUOTE President Obama for you:
Quote:

“Look, here’s the bottom line with respect to gas prices. I want gas prices lower because they hurt families, because I meet folks every day who have to drive a long way to get to work. And then filling up this gas tank gets more and more painful, and it’s a tax out of their pocketbooks, out of their paychecks. And a lot of folks are already operating on the margins right now.

And it’s not good for the overall economy because when gas prices go up, consumer spending oftentimes pulls back.

And we’re in the midst right now of a recovery that is starting to build up steam, and we don’t want to reverse it.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/the-claim-that-w
ont-die-did-obama-want-higher-gas-prices/2012/03/13/gIQAf0EW9R_blog.html

I'm going to stop right there. There are two direct quotes which disprove two of your claims. Almost EVERYTHING you've said are right-wing talking points and they are not true. You cannot cite specifics, because they don't exist--it's all made-up stuff from FauxNews and their ilk. So it's not worth wasting my time further.

In other words: PROVE what you've written, or admit you're just parroting the right wing's twisting of the truth.

Maybe you don't know math very well. Maybe you don't understand it. But you're using terms like "exponential" when what you really mean is "incremental". An increase from 12 trillion to 14 trillion isn't "exponential", by definition; it's incremental. It's not "ten times", nor "1000%". It just isn't. Bush more than doubled our national debt. Reagan did the same. Obama hasn't even come close. Oddly, there's only one of them that you feel comfortable calling "nigger rich", though. It says more about you than you might want us to know, Jack, and none of it good.

If you want to argue that spending is bad, that's an argument you can have. But you're arguing like an idiot Republican, by seemingly trying to claim that 100% of the national debt was put in place by Obama, and nobody else had a single thing to do with it. You insist of overinflating Obama's spending and hyper-exaggerating his role in creating our debt levels. Sorry, but I'm going to call you on it when you use false facts and disinformation to bolster an already weak case.

You'll happily vote for Romney and his plans to out-tax-cut Bush, and you can't even see that you simply cannot cut taxes and balance your budget.

If you'd like to argue more, please educate yourself on such matters beforehand. I'd recommend talking to Signy, because she has a handle on such things, and she's no fan of Obama, so she's not going to blow smoke up your ass.

"I supported Bush in 2000 and 2004 and intellegence [sic] had very little to do with that decision." - Hero, Real World Event Discussions

I USED actual numbers. Before you complain to me about the VERY generous numbers I used to give Bush Jr. the full credit for the TARP fiasco, show me numbers that stated otherwise.

If we're simply bitching about my use of words that aren't correct, that's an entirely different argument, but you intertwine them as if one makes the other legit. If you look at the "implied" spending that 4 more years of Obama would add to the national debt and the 4th year that is still un-determined, Obama will have NO problem doubling the insane debt that GWB doubled before him.

So... even that might not be "exponential", but then again, neither was GWB's debt.... Just because it's not EXPONENTIAL for either of them doesn't excuse either of them for ruining us.

I have in NO WAY placed all of the blame on Obama, and I invite you to re-read my posts and take a little more with you than simply what you want to hear. The only reason he's getting it now is because He's the commander in chief now, and his spending is nearly 4 times as reckless as Bush Jr's spending, at a time where it hurts all of us even more than during the horrible GWB administration.

Christ!

You sound just like Hero and Rap did, arguing against me when I was saying the same shit about GWB!

So, before you suggest I re-educate myself on the numbers, maybe you should find some numbers that dis-prove the ones I've laid out so intelligently for you to soak up. These numbers aren't wrong, and you won't be able to refute them, plus, I even skewed them so that Obama is completely off the hook for TARP even though his massive deficit spending is padded by the eventual payback and interest on TARP funds GWB put out there and was credited for in my figures.

My ONLY mistake in the post you refer to is the use of the word exponential. From there, you made up an entirely fictitious rebuttal of the facts.

As for "Nigger Rich", don't blame me that Obama is black. GWB was Nigger Rich. My parents and their struggling business and the boat and cottage they had to sell just to pay interest payments and stay afloat were Nigger Rich. My friends all working union jobs that are underwater on their house and have a brand new car for them and their wives were Nigger Rich. I only personally know 3 people other than me who have a damn clue about how to manage money like an adult should and can weather any storm without sucking at the teet of the Credit card companies or fall back on bankruptcy.

Sorry for your debt, as in you owe well over 50k to the National Debt just being a Citizen, no matter how well you have done for yourself and how much you have saved. You'll understand that more when China calls in its debt when we have an administration who will bend over to foreign interests and allow them to take that out of our ass.

Good to hear that your step-kids are doing so well. Nothing wrong with being one of the 1%. Not bad, mom, considering you're a hippie at heart. (I just imagine Alex P Keaton running around with a camera, proving his hippie parents wrong).

No no no, the correct answer is to talk about all the good programs out there to support women. Education, access to work, child care, food, health care for kids, welfare, and so on to support women of all walks of life who need a helping hand in these troubled times.

Then I respond pointing out the cradle to grave coverage of these poor women who simply can't do for themselves and suggest its not only a bad thing...but it's sexist.

Hello,

I am confused by this statement.

First, is access to work a special program to support women?

Moreover, how are any of these things, Education, child care, food, health care for kids, welfare- how are they specific to women? Can't any citizen attempt to access such programs where they exist?

And if they can, then how are the programs sexist?

Can't both sexes benefit? And moreover...

Is access to work, education, and food considered a bad thing to you?

6ix,

How do you get around the electoral numbers?

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/2012_elections_
electoral_college_map.html

Obama: 253 likely delegates

Romney: 170 likely delegates

Up for grabs: 115

Obama only needs 17 more (no more than 2 battleground states worth) to win with 270. And conversely, Romney MUST pick up all but one or two battleground states to win, or 100 of the 115 on the table. Looks to me as if a certain man from Illinois just might beat the pants off a certain Mormon we know.

Where I disagree is that Jack is trolling; he expresses himself well on how he feels and WHY he feels the way he does; I do agree with him on some things, but it looks like they are very much in the minority and yes, he's too "out there" for me. But he does provide explanations for why he believes what he does, for the most part, and I believe does so honestly. That's the opposite of trolling. Our exchanges were interesting, as I've not focused on him before to find out where he stands on some issues, and now I know, I'm afraid his opinions aren't what I would consider reasonable, so I've parted ways with him. At least I know better who I'm talking to from now on.

Thank you Frem

Also, thank you Niki, for at least paving some common ground before you chose to look the other way. That's a very rare thing around here, and I tip my hat to you for that show of class.

That being said....

I'd like to re-invite Kwicko to argue against the fiscal implications of our current and previous presidents now that I've entirely removed the term "exponential" from the claims against the current debt being imposed upon us and our future.

As I see it, and it's yet to be refuted by ANY rabid RWED left wingers so far. As you've mentioned in another post, Signy probably would be the medium ground to fix those errors, but even though Signy is always around, there is no response, is there???? Those numbers are not only legitimate, but they are VERY generous in Obama's favor given that I've laid ALL blame for tarp on GWB and not taken into account any and all repayments plus interest of those TARP debts that Obama received to pad how bad his deficit spending actually is.

In the end, even Signy and I have fights with each other over the years, but they're a lot more minor than the fights I feel we have together today. And they're a lot more minor than the fights I felt I had with the rabid right wingers years ago.

Maybe Signy just hasn't been around a while. We'll have to wait until Signy comes around if Signy ever does....

(Has it been made apparently clear that I have absolutely no clue after this many years what sex Signy is lol????)

I always assumed Signy was a female, even with "her" Wash icon, but if that's not true, I seriously apologize.

EDITED TO ADD:

Sorry Kwicko.... as history here, which is proven in the Archives, I have NEVER claimed I was a Republican. This is not Jack changing sides when it is convenient. This is Jack, AS ALWAYS, telling the proles that the "powers that currently be" are wrong.

You just happen to be on the wrong side of this argument today.

Signe doesn't always come around, she also doesn't respond to PMs, or at least PMs from me, in case anyone is interested. I see Kiki is back, I actually missed her and am glad she's back.

Jack, how many siblings do you have, it seems as though you have three brothers from what I glean, but confirmation on that number would be helpful.

Hey Riona,

I always figured Signy was female, but never actually asked, and she never once made a post that would make me actually really think that she was (one way or another). To her credit, I suppose this is the "middle ground" that Kwick speaks of. Honestly, except for the fact that I too believed that Signy seemed a feminine name and my witness to a lot of women using Wash as an avitar here over the years, there was really no other reason that I could attribute to thinking that way.

If you don't mind me asking Signy.............

Enquiring minds want to know

You're close, but I've actually got 4 brothers. My bros and my dad inherited (a totally awesome) one from the 2nd marriage, and the 4th is my baby bro genius who's nearly all grown up. My old man said that we were his hockey team (even though none of us could really skate for shit... I think it's just because, even though we were gifted with a competitive amount of athletic ability, it would be ridiculous to call us his Basketball team since we're all stark white).

I seriously believe that the man is incapable of making a girl....

4 attempts, 2 women..... 4 boys......

I always wanted to have a sister to protect. Never happened though. I wonder how much different I'd be today if I had a female perspective to life from a sister I would do anything for. I'd bet if one of my bros 2-4 years apart from me were female, I'd be a completely different person than I am today.

Weird how life plays out when you look at things that way, innit?

I am also one of those gifted with height - and terrible as basketball. Being 6'4, people assume I can play. They are incorrect.

Oh, hell - I'm *awful* at basketball. The only reason I can dunk is because I'm as tall as Magic Johnson: a bit over 6'8". At that height, you don't have to be able to jump very high to make sure the ball is going nowhere but through the hoop...

They used to just position me under the basket to rebound and dunk, because I didn't have moves for shit!

EXACTLY! I've never felt that I was oversized. Ducking under doorways is second nature to me, as is going through them a bit sideways, lest my shoulders catch the door frame.

The only time I recall feeling self-conscious about my height was when my back was particularly bad for a spell, and I felt *shorter* than normal. So I checked, and I'd lost more than an inch in height!

Haha Kwick!

I'm actually great at defense in a real game, and I can shoot free throws and 3 point shots like no tomorrow, but only when I'm just shooting around and not guarded. Unless you brought the hoop down to 7' though, I could never dunk!

I'm only 5'7" and I'm no Spud Webb. (Although I did have a black business woman twice my age in an elevator on a remodeling job make me blush when she said to me "you got big thighs for a white boy" after I caught her staring and asked if she like what she saw since I was wearing "work" jeans that I should have retired the previous week and they finally ripped 2 ways that day so you could see my knee and everything 6" either way).

I'm also not much of a team player, if you haven't inferred. Wrestling was always my sport of choice. To me, even though most of the audience was friends and family and girlfriends for that sport, nothing beat the feeling of being able to legally bring some serious pain to somebody else and embarrass them in the process, while also being able to give an excuse to flex every muscle in my body while my girlfriend swooned on the side and my family cheered.

There's always a down to every high though....

Christmas would come and go, and here I was eating nothing but two slices of Turkey and some green beans while everyone else was eating 4 times what they normally ate for dinner.

I feel for the supermodels out there. I know from experience exactly what they go through, although fortunately I've never been bulimic or anorexic as a side effect (although I do obsess about my weight more than I should). Today I'm a healthy 175, but freshman year I cut from 110 to 98lbs and by senior year I cut from 160 down to 119 lbs. My coach yelled at me that I could take the state competition senior year if I cut to 103, but I told him that I'd be dead at 103.

90 percent of my matches of my "career" resulted in me pinning the other guy. Unfortunately, when I came up against any foe worthy of my "skills" I got my ass handed to me. The only scholarships I got, even with my great record, were to 2nd rate schools and they were only partials.

Hindsight being 20/20, had I perused one of those scholarships and actually had a teacher that could make me understand the "physics" and virtues of finesse over brute strength for my size, I probably could have been an Olympic contender. It's kind of silly that with how much I over think everything these days, that I didn't use a shred of brain power when I wrestled. I had a 90%+ rate of pins, so I thought my coaches were wrong. It wasn't until it was too late that I realized that the 10 or so % that mattered were lost because I was a bull headed idiot.

In the end, wrestling as my HS sport of choice is kind of fitting. As with almost every other aspect of my life, my own worst enemy has always been myself.

I used to work with a guy about my size - he was a hardcore punk-rocker, mohawk, tattoos, the whole attitude... and the guy we worked for was about four foot nothin'. He and I were talking about the next job we were setting up, and the boss comes up and stands there, looking back and forth, then says, "Hey, do y'all play basketball?" and laughs like he's just said something really original and funny. Without skipping a beat, the other guy looks down and says, "No. Have you ever been tossed?"

I was unable to control my laughter.

Good luck to ya man.

If I didn't drink 10 beers a night 2000 calories wouldn't be a problem for me.

I'm 50 lbs less than when I was doing the same thing 2 years ago, but sitting at a computer desk all day. All this work really sheds the lbs, but it won't otherwise actually make you healthy or trim unless you go full bore. I can bench press over 200lbs still (much less than the 325 I used to be able to), and I can squat over 700lbs, but if I ever get in a fight I better win in the first 90 seconds or else I'm going to be in the hospital or the morgue after I'm out of breath.

Bingo! Same for me...except when I'm in a crowd of ACTUALLY short people (like a bunch of women). Then I feel oversized.

My half-brother was 6'6-1/2"--poor baby all but had brain damage before he was 21, the number of times he hit his head on door jambs, and I never knew how he dealt with beds...they're too short for ME, what must they be for anyone OVER six feet?!? I added six inches at the top of my bed (too complex to answer; remember, I sleep outdoors) and it's wonderful (tho' the sheets and blankets are STILL a bit short...), but I still sleep mostly diagonally. Having two huskies in bed with me might have something to do with...nah, couldn't be. ;o)

Me, I'm just so tickled these days to see how many more tall women there are than when I was young--also how many women riding their OWN motorcycles!

Beds... I haven't slept with my feet actually ON a bed in more than 35 years, so I really can't say. In fact, I *can't* sleep with my feet on a bed - they need to hang off the edge, or it messes up my sleep. Preferably they stick out from under the blankets, too.

So, back to the topic of the thread, another little salvo in the War on Women (or, something else for the right wing faithful to stick their fingers in their ears and go "nya nya nya" over):

During a hearing over a proposed ban on abortion in DC (which relies on "fetal pain" which has NO scientific basis), Republican Representative from (here's a shock) Arizona, Trent Franks - blocks DCs own delegate from speaking about her own constituents.

Yeah Story, I heard about that one last night. Just shook my head and said to the TV "Yeah, right, there's no war on women..." and resisted the urge to follow it with my glass of iced tea.

Admittedly that part is a war on women's right to choose what they do with their bodies(and curse those who are acting on it to kiss the asses of their fringe religious zealots)...but I'd like to see what would have happened if that delegate had been MALE, if they'd have denied him just the same.

For those who haven't heard about it and don't want to bother clicking on the link:
Quote:

The House Subcommittee on the Constitution will stage a hearing on Thursday for a bill that would ban all abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy in the District of Colombia. And much like the last major Republican hearing on female reproductive rights, women are being shut out — or at least, one woman: the district’s female congressional representative.

While committee chair Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ), author of the bill being discussed, has not yet revealed who will be testifying, he has revealed who won’t be. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), the sole federal representative of Washington, D.C. in Congress, said this week that she sent a letter to Franks asking to testify on behalf of her constituents, but her request was denied. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/05/16/republicans-block-rep-norton-fro
m-testifying-on-anti-abortion-bill-for-her-own-district/
what excuse will Franks/Republicans come up with for why she was denied, I wonder?

Hearing on a bill that would affect D.C. residents, but the representative of D.C. can't testify. I would be shocked, but I'm beyond being shocked by this bullshit.

ETA: Thanx for putting us back on topic...it just occurred to me that if we keep this thread going long enough, there will ALWAYS be something these idjits do to bring us back, y'know? ;o)
