Hubby has been pricing wood at Home Depot, Lowe's, and our nearest lumberyard and the prices are phenomenal, WHEN IT'S EVEN AVAILABLE. A problem ever since Covid. For example, hubby has been shopping for straight grain Douglas fir which used to be $3/board foot (bdf) and now it's not even being delivered. Prices for wood has more than quadrupled! What to do kind of depends on how thick you need your spindles and dowels. They need to be heavy enough to keep kids from pushing thru and strong enough to support stair banisters. For the dowels I guess the best thing to do is select better pieces of premade hardwood dowels from your local hardware store. But for staircases, he suggests going to a lumberyard, selecting your own stock, cutting it into square lengths on your table saw, and then using a router with a round over bit or quarter round to shape it into either a full circle or a rounded square. Maybe leaving the ends square which might make an easier fit into the stairs and banister. Alternately, table legs might be an option altho I think they might be even more $$$.

Please be careful. I noticed a change in the tone of your posts and I'm concerned about you. If your AVERAGE is under 100 you could be flirting with 70 or lower, which is too low, and could lead to "angry drunk" behavior (a combo of not enuf sugar in the brain and too much adrenaline everywhere.) Gotta go. A family medical issue to attend.

Quote:Originally posted by 6ixStringJack: No problem Sigs. You weren't wrong though. I did have some lows there. I don't mind having an hour or so under 70 here or there if I'm steady though. But earlier today based off of what I'd plugged in for bolus it ended up getting me down to the mid 50's for a little while there. That wasn't a miscalculation of carbs on my part. But I noticed the other day that you can set a duration for bolus insulin to be administered over the course of "X" amount of hours, and the trainer set mine at 4 hours (or that's just the default). I really don't want to change that number, but hopefully when they make upgrades to this system you can put in the type of carbs that you're eating and it would deviate from that standard 4 hour time-frame accordingly. Mine today were mostly peanut butter and cereal, which is quite a slow burn... basically on the opposite end of taking glucose tablets which are a near immediate infusion of sugar to your bloodstream. That's the problem when you're always trying to be low... If the insulin is delivered too quickly for the quality carbs you're eating, you can get lower than you should be getting. But I didn't rush and take any glucose tablets. I let it sit for a while and it ended up getting back up to 115 on its own and then leveling out in the 90s again. That's nice of your boss to invite you to Christmas, Brenda. -------------------------------------------------- Political correctness is just tyranny, with a smiley face.

I didn't celebrate Thanksgiving more than a handful of times in about 2 decades after my uncle on my mom's side of the family died and the tradition was broken up and usually worked on the day when I had a job. But my friend's family invited me over last year and now it's become like our tradition and I really look forward to it. Haven't gotten a Christmas or Christmas Eve invite yet this year, but I'm still hoping it comes. I know that they fell out of the family loop with Covid themselves, so they may or may not be going somewhere else for Christmas now that everybody finally seems to have gotten over the Covid insanity. Either way, my aunt and I are going down to visit my brother for a few days the week after Christmas. He doesn't come in for the holidays anymore after he got the cat that destroys everything, and she's never seen his place or the cool little town he lives in before. -------------------------------------------------- Political correctness is just tyranny, with a smiley face.

I just found out last night from my aunt she got her time off for sure. There was a possibility that it wasn't going to happen, but I guess we're good to go. Hopefully the weather decides to cooperate with our plans now. It will be a little bit colder than the week before Christmas is going to be, but the bottom doesn't appear to fall out until after New Years Day. We just don't want to be driving in some snow storms is all. -------------------------------------------------- Political correctness is just tyranny, with a smiley face.

They're both in their 90s and very far away. Almost all of my relatives are 3000 miles away, and given our family health problems and hubby's complete household helplessness, I can't just hop on a plane and visit. All I can do is send cards and letters which are appreciated by the older generation, and texts and chats for the younger folks. We had a scary medical crisis over the weekend, but daughter is now recovering. My rheumatologist has been looped into my sinus problem so I get to see Infectious Disease and Rheumatology both on the same day first week of January, and maybe I'll get to nail my situation down for good. Quote:Originally posted by SIGNYM: A medical funny.... Well, in addition to my nasal/sinus condition and ongoing medical issues, hubby's chronic old-age issues and daughter's pop-up crisis, we ended the week with another medical thing, but this time with hospital humor My friend in the foothills had a cooking accident: she was taking soup out of the microwave and it (in chemistry terms) "bumped" - it popped out of the container and hit her in the face and elsewhere. When she ran to put cold water in it she noticed a few layers of skin peeling off. Not being able to negotiate driving a stick shift and keeping a cold compress on her face she called 911. So far, not funny. Eventually she was xfered to Los Angeles County Hospital for debridement and treatment. And, as she told it.... "I was being wheeled (on gurney) down one of those interminable corridors. The ceiling was white... the walls were white ... the floor was white. And I said 'I'm going down a long ... white ... corridor' After a moment the ambulance attendant looked down and said 'Don't do that. 'Cause that's a whole lot of extra paperwork for us' " BWAHAHAHA! Quote:Originally posted by 6ixStringJack: Here's one for you... I started getting rashes under my CGM around Thanksgiving after using them for months without any problems. So here I was thinking "oh great... maybe my body's attacking something else that it shouldn't be" and worrying that I won't be able to use a CGM anymore. Then today I do a simple Google search on the issue and find out that it's super widespread, it's been known about for YEARS and it's assumed that they changed adhesive since so many people who didn't have a problem with it before started having issues and even the FDA knows about it and nothing's been done to fix the problem. Oh... I guess that's probably not funny to most people. It made me chuckle though. I'm wondering if I got a "bad" batch, since my last 3 in a row did it to me. On a new batch right now, so hopefully the problem goes away. At least I was happy to see that I wasn't having the same problems from the insulin pump pods. But there could have been a lot of other reasons for that too, since the pods don't inject metal into you and you change them every 3 days instead of 10 days. -------------------------------------------------- Political correctness is just tyranny, with a smiley face.

It's funny ... so many of my cousins and their kids are moving back to the old hometown. The only ones NOT "back home" now are my cousin and his wife (NM), their son (working on a ranch in the southwest somewhere) and my cousin's one son (MI). Wish I could go back home too. Quote:I think you have good visualization skills. You're able to imagine what something will look like, and how it needs to be put together in order to work out. And even if it doesn't come to you ahead of time, you can piece it together as you go. IMHO that's the key to flexible learning, which you seem to do quite easily.
