Quote:Originally posted by second: Quote:Originally posted by 6ixStringJack: 8 days until Debate Night. Tick TockSmart campaigns manage expectations to a reasonable level that allows them to declare victory no matter what happens. The Trump campaign and his allies in conservative media set expectations so low for President Joe Biden that he will win next week’s debate so long as he is still alive and hasn’t soiled himself by the end of it. During the 2000 election, Democrats were focused like a laser on convincing the American public that then Texas Governor George W. Bush was a moron, just lucky that breathing is reflexive, lest he forget to do it and suffocate right there on the debate stage. That was the context for that year’s presidential debates — some idiot versus Al Gore. But a funny thing happened. Bush didn’t drown in his own saliva, and Gore didn’t come off like anything special. Therefore, Bush won the debates because the expectations game had been so horribly managed by Democrats. Republicans mock Biden for his senility, but it also lowers the bar for debate performance. It also raises the bar for Trump. How could he fail to absolutely destroy a senile, doddering old man in a debate? It’s time for Republicans to be aware of this and, at a minimum, set the bar a little bit higher for Biden. As of now, he can get himself declared the winner if he can just give answers (they don’t have to make complete sense) to all the questions, no matter their quality. Victory for Biden only requires his still being awake at the end. https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/4727587-trump-risks-losing-next-weeks-debate-before-it-even-happens/ The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at https://www.mediafire.com/two

Quote:Many Republicans who condemned his part in the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol and thought he should have been impeached and convicted for it now consider the legal crusade against Mr. Trump to be as threatening to democracy as what happened that day. Democrats need to understand why.
Quote:But here too, the odor of selective prosecution is hard to escape. Not only did Mrs. Clinton mishandle classified documents, so did Mr. Biden. In fact, he shared them with a ghostwriter after leaving the vice presidency. Special counsel Robert Hur determined that Mr. Biden’s actions were “willful” but declined to prosecute. ....Bottom line: Both candidates for president appear to have violated the same law; the one in power is excused and his opponent faces trial.

You don't have to take the media's word for who won, but then you don't see what I see. Trump is a fat, dumb, lying, incompetent bastard, much like all the Trumptards I know. They don't see themselves as who they are which is why they cannot understand the reasons for them being unsuccessful Americans. If they saw themselves as the stupid assholes they truly are then the reasons they fail at life become obvious and they no longer need to blame the Democrats for the Trumptards' failing to thrive. Quote:Originally posted by second: Trump is being prosecuted because . . . he broke a lot of laws In the Wall Street Journal today, former judge Michael McConnell tries to explain to us Democrats why Republicans are sticking with Donald Trump despite all the court cases against him. First he argues that the New York hush money case was bogus. Fair enough. It's an arguable point. But he also says this: Quote:Many Republicans who condemned his part in the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol and thought he should have been impeached and convicted for it now consider the legal crusade against Mr. Trump to be as threatening to democracy as what happened that day. Democrats need to understand why. This is odd. McConnell says lots of Republicans think Trump should have been convicted for his role in the January 6 insurrection, but later on he dismisses as "lawfare" the current federal case against Trump for his part in January 6. Why? And it gets worse. Even McConnell has to admit that the classified documents case is sound:Quote:But here too, the odor of selective prosecution is hard to escape. This is the worst sort of deception. Trump is not being prosecuted for "mishandling" classified documents and McConnell knows it. As usual in Journal op-eds, what's important is what's left out. Clinton and Biden both mishandled a small number of unimportant documents and cooperated completely with investigators. By contrast, Trump is being prosecuted because he took highly classified documents; he took lots of them; he refused to return them; he ignored subpoenas; and he aggressively tried to hide them even from an FBI search. McConnell knows this. So do the Journal's editorial page editors. But they don't care. For the good of the cause, this all has to be forced into a narrative of "Democratic lawfare" instead of acknowledging it as the entirely predictable result of a president who happens to be a serious serial lawbreaker. I'm not sure why this has to be repeatedly explained to Republicans. The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at https://www.mediafire.com/two

By Joseph Nunn from Summer 2024, No. 73 https://democracyjournal.org/magazine/73/the-most-dangerous-law-in-america/ The Insurrection Act is a nuclear bomb hidden in the United States Code. Enacted in the early years of this country’s existence, it was subsequently modified several times, as Congress greatly expanded the President’s powers under the law during the bloody tumult of the Civil War and Reconstruction. It has largely been ignored ever since. But today, the law has garnered renewed attention and raised concerns in many quarters for a reason that should echo ominously this election year: It gives the President virtually limitless discretion to use the military as a domestic police force. There is no reason to assume that good fortune and presidential self-restraint will continue to prevent abuse of the Insurrection Act. Congress has ignored the law for 150 years, all while the country and its needs have changed dramatically. An oblique reference to Trump: In the current political climate, where threatening political opponents and questioning the integrity of elections has become normalized, continuing to turn a blind eye ultimately endangers the United States’s future as a republic ruled by law. Quote:Democrats are planning the virtual nod for Mr. Biden amid reports about behind-the-scenes panic among top Democrats and schemes to substitute a younger, more viable candidate who stands a better chance of defeating former President Donald Trump. Nate Silver, who aggregates and analyzes election polls, noted that Mr. Biden’s approval rating this month declined to 37.4%, an all-time low for the president. “Dropping out would be a big risk,” Mr. Silver posted on X. “But there’s some threshold below which continuing to run is a bigger risk. Are we there yet? I don’t know. But it’s more than fair to ask.” Now that Democrats have cleared the way for nominating online, they could move to replace the ticket virtually — perhaps, some suggest, if Mr. Biden performs poorly at the June 27 presidential debate, where he will face off against Mr. Trump for the first time since 2020.

We were paralyzed with fright; our happy family life was tarnished. My wife has been overcome by anxiety, and my lovely child has become sick. Why should we be deported? This is very, very hard for a family. What will our fellow citizens think if honest subjects are faced with such a decree — not to mention the great material losses it would incur. I would like to become a Bavarian citizen again.
