I have a feeling some of you could write novels

I don't like green beans any way but stir-fried with garlic and soy. I can't stand it when they are waterlogged with bits of limp onions and dubious bits of ham. I'm sure there'a a way to do that right, but if there is I haven't had it yet....
I don't like cooked carrots because it blands the flavor and it's an odd kind of squishy. I'm a big fan of crunchy.
Eggplant tends to make me nauseous, but I'm not philisophically opposed to it like some are. It does look like aliens left it here, though...
When I was younger I would never eat a tomato, and I know there are web-sites dedicated to hating them, which I kinda understand...
Also, I was violently opposed to meatloaf as a kid because I thought it looked like blood-covered poo and would promtly throw up if forced to eat it...

I'm a fruit-aholic (esp exotic fruits) with a bizarre fascination with lee-chee (never know if they are fruit or nuts), and if you warm them slightly, and add a little milk and a drop of vanilla they taste like dessert to me...
I'm a bug fan of anything creamy, custard-y or covered in cheese... Fried Zuccini squash with melted cheese is one of my families' favorite little traditions.

I have this attitude that you shouldn't totally snub a food unless allergic because you never know when that food has a nutrient of some sort that you need and you never know when the thing you hate could be the only thing you might have to eat, like a survival thing. I absolutely love the experience of trying new foods, and I'm married to a man who would be happy to never try anything new, ever.

Unfortunately, I've had to cross off most corn products, almonds, and coconut off my edible lists since a recent diognosis of Irritable Bowel I think there might be others, but itza trial and error sorta thing........ After years of avioding chocolates, because I was worried about calories, I have to have a yoohoo a day and several pieces of it after I read an article about how chocolate helps lubricate the intestines and prevent irritations. Loving my new cure! It really does help me too!

AURaptor stole my hatred of Okra. Now I have nothing for those revolting little alien head eggs.

Steamed carrots are only sometimes good. However, carrots baked in a cake or fresh and crisp for munching redeems them.

Sometimes I can handle curry. Other times not so much. It's not my favourite by a long shot at any rate.

I hate lemons.

Why? They don't know their place.

I mean lemonade is great, tasty, refreshing...but then lemon gets all uppity and starts showing up in pudding, in pies, in iced tea, on fish...its just plain wrong and there ought to be a law or perhaps some kind of govt regulation. I mean they regulate every damn thing in the world but when it comes to limiting the use of lemons...nothing. I blame the Democrats, not Obama...the lemon problem goes back a long time.

There's a reason all the new people show up here lately, the main board does a good job of welcoming people and discussing everything crew related, but it seems very few are responding to any discussions about anything else in the main areas...'Sides I figure it gives a nice reprieve to the serious discussions...

Hero: You don't like lemon bars?!

You're some sort of kitty monster, flinching away from citrus lemony goodness while I sit here chomping down.

It is your loss. (and my gain... moar lemon bars)

Oh, I thought of another one though. Bananas. :/ the texture of them triggers my gag reflex, I can only eat them comfortably sliced, dried, and salted into chip form. They are only saved by the fun name.

Many items classified as sushi. Oriental chicken salad, the noodles are crunchy, unacceptable. Bao, sorry I just don't like it even though Mal does like it. Chicken's feet, tried 'em at the same time as bao at our Browncoats dim sum party, ew. Papaya, they taste like soap. Poi, in the same vane as papaya. Soy milk. Stew, unless its got lamb in it. V8 juice. seaweed snacks.

I have no objections about this being in this section, I should have put my language syrum question here, I probably will one of these days.

I assume you're my pal until you let me know otherwise.

Huh. I actually like bao... It's basically shredded barbeque pork in a dumpling.

One time I had dim sum with like some custard in it, that was also really good. I never got around to trying chicken feet though.

I've never actually had bao. Ever since 'Our Mrs Reynolds', I've looked for it, but never been able to find it. Least, not by that name.

Aren't those the bland puffy things in a steamer that they have at Chinese Buffets?
Sometimes they are sweet and shaped like a peach?

Depends. I've mostly had bao that had shredded and seasoned pork filling. Sometimes there's vegetable filling or a bean paste or a sweet custard they'll also put in it.

But while all bao is a type of dim sum, not all dim sum is bao. So the chicken feet thing someone mentioned, that would be dim sum, and a dumpling with no filling is mantou, not bao.

Okra is essential in any decent gumbo - its "slime" is one of the things besides the roux that thickens the stock and gives it its silky texture. It also adds a boat load of vitamins. Eat your greens!

I'm not fond of many foods that can be described as: "tastes like the ocean." That usually means it'll be freaking expensive.

Steamed carrots are good tossed in a bit of melted butter, honey and a dash of pepper. Carrots are a staple in our family, grated in sandwiches, chopped in salads and stirfrys and just munched for a snack.

OMG are you missing out. Lemon cheesecake and lemon pudding are two of the greatest desserts of all time and my husband makes both beautifully. Lemon juice and sugar sprinkled on pancakes is another. Lemons add zing to lots of food, even savoury.

Now I'm personally offended. ;)

Foods I hate. You know I'm struggling to list any. I'm not crazy about offel, but I wouldn't say never because its all in the cooking.

If I was going to say anything, I'd say badly cooked food, especially when I go out and pay for it. Overcooked anything, but especially vegetables. Food fried in cheap oil that is old. Yuck. Meat with fat on it I've never been able to manage, but if I can cut the fat off I'm usually okay. Don't like things that are oversauced, too greasy and fatty.

Yep. I asked someone years ago how that is pronounced and they said you could say that either ly-chee or lee-chee, but yeah, I got the spelling wrong...And knowing the person I asked he coulda been blowing smoke...

Oh man, lemon cheesecake. I can make one without the cheese new york style. It is DELICIOUS.

I also have trouble palleting a lot of grease or fat.

Now, in principle, I don't eat 'bait'. However, I must admit, it's not half bad. Tasty, even.

But still, not something I'd order.

I said I wasn't crazy about it, but haggis is heavily disguised offal so I can eat it.

Tripe is another matter. I'd have to say tripe has to have so much done to it to make it paletable that really, lets face it, its basicaly inedible.

Sure. I posted it in one of my blogs here on the site a while back. Have to know how to work with protein base if you're going to be a firefly fan.

If you know anyone who's vegan or lactose intolerant, this'll probably make their day. You can also substitute chocolate powder in.

My hubby makes a cold cheesecake with cream cheese, lots of lemon juice, lemon zest, condensed milk spooned over a crushed biscuit and butter base. Then you just refrigerate overnight.

Yeah, that's one way to do it. New York style is when you bake it a little before refrigerating. It causes it to really thicken up.

I like both, but there's something extra special about New York style.
